2nd-Peter 1:1 | Simon Peter, a servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who with us have a part in the same holy faith in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ: | Simon Peter, bondman and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have received like precious faith with us through [the] righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ: | Simon Peter, a bondservant and Apostle of Jesus Christ: To those to whom there has been allotted the same precious faith as that which is ours through the righteousness of our God and of our Saviour Jesus Christ. |
2nd-Peter 1:2 | May grace and peace ever be increasing in you, in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; | Grace and peace be multiplied to you in [the] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. | May more and more grace and peace be granted to you in a full knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, |
2nd-Peter 1:3 | Because by his power he has given us everything necessary for life and righteousness, through the knowledge of him who has been our guide by his glory and virtue; | As his divine power has given to us all things which relate to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us by glory and virtue, | seeing that His divine power has given us all things that are needful for life and godliness, through our knowledge of Him who has appealed to us by His own glorious perfections. |
2nd-Peter 1:4 | And through this he has given us the hope of great rewards highly to be valued; so that by them we might have our part in God's being, and be made free from the destruction which is in the world through the desires of the flesh. | through which he has given to us the greatest and precious promises, that through these ye may become partakers of [the] divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. | It is by means of these that He has granted us His precious and wondrous promises, in order that through them you may, one and all, become sharers in the very nature of God, having completely escaped the corruption which exists in the world through earthly cravings. |
2nd-Peter 1:5 | So, for this very cause, take every care; joining virtue to faith, and knowledge to virtue, | But for this very reason also, using therewith all diligence, in your faith have also virtue, in virtue knowledge, | But for this very reason adding, on your part, all earnestness along with your faith, manifest also a noble character: along with a noble character, knowledge; |
2nd-Peter 1:6 | And self-control to knowledge, and a quiet mind to self-control, and fear of God to a quiet mind, | in knowledge temperance, in temperance endurance, in endurance godliness, | along with knowledge, self-control; along with self-control, power of endurance; |
2nd-Peter 1:7 | And love of the brothers to fear of God, and to love of the brothers, love itself. | in godliness brotherly love, in brotherly love love: | along with power of endurance, godliness; along with godliness, brotherly affection; and along with brotherly affection, love. |
2nd-Peter 1:8 | For if you have these things in good measure, they will make you fertile and full of fruit in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. | for these things existing and abounding in you make [you] to be neither idle nor unfruitful as regards the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ; | If these things exist in you, and continually increase, they prevent your being either idle or unfruitful in advancing towards a full knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
2nd-Peter 1:9 | For the man who has not these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having no memory of how he was made clean from his old sins. | for he with whom these things are not present is blind, short-sighted, and has forgotten the purging of his former sins. | For the man in whom they are lacking is blind and cannot see distant objects, in that he has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his old sins. |
2nd-Peter 1:10 | For this reason, my brothers, take all the more care to make your selection and approval certain; for if you do these things you will never have a fall: | Wherefore the rather, brethren, use diligence to make your calling and election sure, for doing these things ye will never fall; | For this reason, brethren, be all the more in earnest to make sure that God has called you and chosen you; for it is certain that so long as you practise these things, you will never stumble. |
2nd-Peter 1:11 | For so the way will be open to you into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. | for thus shall the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be richly furnished unto you. | And so a triumphant admission into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will be freely granted to you. |
2nd-Peter 1:12 | For this reason I will be ready at all times to keep your memory of these things awake, though you have the knowledge of them now and are well based in your present faith. | Wherefore I will be careful to put you always in mind of these things, although knowing [them] and established in the present truth. | For this reason I shall always persist in reminding you of these things, although you know them and are stedfast believers in truth which you already possess. |
2nd-Peter 1:13 | And it seems right to me, as long as I am in this tent of flesh, to keep your minds awake by working on your memory; | But I account it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance, | But I think it right, so long as I remain in the body, my present dwelling-place, to arouse you by such reminders. |
2nd-Peter 1:14 | For I am conscious that in a short time I will have to put off this tent of flesh, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. | knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is speedily [to take place], as also our Lord Jesus Christ has manifested to me; | For I know that the time for me to lay aside my body is now rapidly drawing near, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has revealed to me. |
2nd-Peter 1:15 | And I will take every care so that you may have a clear memory of these things after my death. | but I will use diligence, that after my departure ye should have also, at any time, [in your power] to call to mind these things. | So on every possible occasion I will also do my best to enable you to recall these things after my departure. |
2nd-Peter 1:16 | For when we gave you news of the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, our teaching was not based on stories put together by art, but we were eye-witnesses of his glory. | For we have not made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cleverly imagined fables, but having been eyewitnesses of *his* majesty. | For when we made known to you the power and Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we were not eagerly following cleverly devised legends, but we had been eye-witnesses of His majesty. |
2nd-Peter 1:17 | For God the Father gave him honour and glory, when such a voice came to him out of the great glory, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased. | For he received from God [the] Father honour and glory, such a voice being uttered to him by the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom *I* have found my delight; | He received honour and glory from God the Father, and out of the wondrous glory words such as these were spoken to Him, "This is My dearly-loved Son, in whom I take delight." |
2nd-Peter 1:18 | And this voice came from heaven even to our ears, when we were with him on the holy mountain. | and this voice *we* heard uttered from heaven, being with him on the holy mountain. | And we ourselves heard these words come from Heaven, when we were with Him on the holy mountain. |
2nd-Peter 1:19 | And so the words of the prophets are made more certain; and it is well for you to give attention to them as to a light shining in a dark place, till the dawn comes and the morning star is seen in your hearts; | And we have the prophetic word [made] surer, to which ye do well taking heed (as to a lamp shining in an obscure place) until [the] day dawn and [the] morning star arise in your hearts; | And in the written word of prophecy we have something more permanent; to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dimly-lighted place until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. |
2nd-Peter 1:20 | Being conscious in the first place that no man by himself may give a special sense to the words of the prophets. | knowing this first, that [the scope of] no prophecy of scripture is had from its own particular interpretation, | But, above all, remember that no prophecy in Scripture will be found to have come from the prophet's own prompting; |
2nd-Peter 1:21 | For these words did not ever come through the impulse of men: but the prophets had them from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit. | for prophecy was not ever uttered by [the] will of man, but holy men of God spake under the power of [the] Holy Spirit. | for never did any prophecy come by human will, but men sent by God spoke as they were impelled by the Holy Spirit. |
