Matthew 25:1 | Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, the friends of the bride, who took their lights, and went out with the purpose of meeting the husband. | Then shall the kingdom of the heavens be made like to ten virgins that having taken their torches, went forth to meet the bridegroom. | "Then will the Kingdom of the Heavens be found to be like ten bridesmaids who took their torches and went out to meet the bridegroom. |
Matthew 25:2 | And five of them were foolish, and five were wise. | And five of them were prudent and five foolish. | Five of them were foolish and five were wise. |
Matthew 25:3 | For the foolish, when they took their lights, took no oil with them. | They that were foolish took their torches and did not take oil with them; | For the foolish, when they took their torches, did not provide themselves with oil; |
Matthew 25:4 | But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lights. | but the prudent took oil in their vessels with their torches. | but the wise, besides their torches, took oil in their flasks. |
Matthew 25:5 | Now the husband was a long time in coming, and they all went to sleep. | Now the bridegroom tarrying, they all grew heavy and slept. | The bridegroom was a long time in coming, so that meanwhile they all became drowsy and fell asleep. |
Matthew 25:6 | But in the middle of the night there is a cry, The husband comes! Go out to him. | But in [the] middle of [the] night there was a cry, Behold, the bridegroom; go forth to meet him. | But at midnight there is a loud cry, "`The bridegroom! Go out and meet him!' |
Matthew 25:7 | Then all those virgins got up, and made ready their lights. | Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their torches. | "Then all those bridesmaids roused themselves and trimmed their torches. |
Matthew 25:8 | And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lights are going out. | And the foolish said to the prudent, Give us of your oil, for our torches are going out. | "`Give us some of your oil,' said the foolish ones to the wise, `for our torches are going out.' |
Matthew 25:9 | But the wise made answer, saying, There may not be enough for us and you; it would be better for you to go to the traders and get oil for yourselves. | But the prudent answered saying, [We cannot,] lest it might not suffice for us and for you. Go rather to those that sell, and buy for yourselves. | "`But perhaps,' replied the wise, `there will not be enough for all of us. Go to the shops rather, and buy some for yourselves.' |
Matthew 25:10 | And while they went to get oil, the master came; and those who were ready went in with him to the feast: and the door was shut. | But as they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and the [ones that were] ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut. | "So they went to buy. But meanwhile the bridegroom came; those bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. |
Matthew 25:11 | After that the other virgins came, saying, Lord, Lord, let us in. | Afterwards come also the rest of the virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us; | "Afterwards the other bridesmaids came and cried, "`Sir, Sir, open the door to us.' |
Matthew 25:12 | But he made answer and said, Truly I say to you, I have no knowledge of you. | but he answering said, Verily I say unto you, I do not know you. | "`In solemn truth I tell you,' he replied, `I do not know you.' |
Matthew 25:13 | Keep watch, then, because you are not certain of the day or of the hour. | Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour. | "Keep awake therefore; for you know neither the day nor the hour. |
Matthew 25:14 | For it is as when a man, about to take a journey, got his servants together, and gave them his property. | For [it is] as [if] a man going away out of a country called his own bondmen and delivered to them his substance. | "Why, it is like a man who, when going on his travels, called his bondservants and entrusted his property to their care. |
Matthew 25:15 | And to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to everyone as he was able; and he went on his journey. | And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to each according to his particular ability, and immediately went away out of the country. | To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one to each according to his individual capacity; and then started from home. |
Matthew 25:16 | Straight away he who had been given the five talents went and did trade with them, and made five more. | And he that had received the five talents went and trafficked with them, and made five other talents. | Without delay the one who had received the five talents went and employed them in business, and gained five more. |
Matthew 25:17 | In the same way he who had been given the two got two more. | In like manner also he that [had received] the two, [he also] gained two others. | In the same way he who had the two gained two more. |
Matthew 25:18 | But he who was given the one went away and put it in a hole in the earth, and kept his lord's money in a secret place. | But he that had received the one went and dug in the earth, and hid the money of his lord. | But the man who had received the one went and dug a hole and buried his master's money. |
Matthew 25:19 | Now after a long time the lord of those servants comes, and makes up his account with them. | And after a long time the lord of those bondmen comes and reckons with them. | "After a long lapse of time the master of those servants returned, and had a reckoning with them. |
Matthew 25:20 | And he who had the five talents came with his other five talents, saying, Lord, you gave into my care five talents: see, I have got five more. | And he that had received the five talents came to [him] and brought five other talents, saying, [My] lord, thou deliveredst me five talents; behold, I have gained five other talents besides them. | The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, and said, "`Sir, it was five talents that you entrusted to me: see, I have gained five more.' |
Matthew 25:21 | His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord. | His lord said to him, Well, good and faithful bondman, thou wast faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter into the joy of thy lord. | "`You have done well, good and trustworthy servant,' replied his master; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' |
Matthew 25:22 | And he who had the two talents came and said, Lord, you gave into my care two talents: see, I have got two more. | And he also that had received the two talents came to [him] and said, [My] lord, thou deliveredst me two talents; behold, I have gained two other talents besides them. | "The second, who had received the two talents, came and said, "`Sir, it was two talents you entrusted to me: see, I have gained two more.' |
Matthew 25:23 | His lord said to him, Well done, good and true servant: you have been true in a small thing, I will give you control over great things: take your part in the joy of your lord. | His lord said to him, Well, good and faithful bondman, thou wast faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. | "`Good and trustworthy servant, you have done well,' his master replied; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' |
Matthew 25:24 | And he who had had the one talent came and said, Lord, I had knowledge that you are a hard man, getting in grain where you have not put seed, and making profits for which you have done no work: | And he also that had received the one talent coming to [him] said, [My] lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou hadst not sowed, and gathering from where thou hadst not scattered, | "But, next, the man who had the one talent in his keeping came and said, "`Sir, I knew you to be a severe man, reaping where you had not sown and garnering what you had not winnowed. |
Matthew 25:25 | And I was in fear, and went away, and put your talent in the earth: here is what is yours. | and being afraid I went away and hid thy talent in the earth; behold, thou hast that which is thine. | So being afraid I went and buried your talent in the ground: there you have what belongs to you.' |
Matthew 25:26 | But his lord in answer said to him, You are a bad and unready servant; if you had knowledge that I get in grain where I did not put seed, and make profits for which I have done no work, | And his lord answering said to him, Wicked and slothful bondman, thou knewest that I reap where I had not sowed, and gather from where I had not scattered; | "`You wicked and slothful servant,' replied his master, `did you know that I reap where I have not sown, and garner what I have not winnowed? |
Matthew 25:27 | Why, then, did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I would have got back what is mine with interest? | thou oughtest then to have put my money to the money-changers, and when I came I should have got what is mine with interest. | Your duty then was to deposit my money in some bank, and so when I came I should have got back my property with interest. |
Matthew 25:28 | Take away, then, his talent and give it to him who has the ten talents. | Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him that has the ten talents: | So take away the talent from him, and give it to the man who has the ten.' |
Matthew 25:29 | For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have more: but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. | for to every one that has shall be given, and he shall be in abundance; but from him that has not, that even which he has shall be taken from him. | (For to every one who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him who has nothing, even what he has shall be taken away.) |
Matthew 25:30 | And put out the servant who is of no profit into the outer dark: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow. | And cast out the useless bondman into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. | `But as for this worthless servant, put him out into the darkness outside: *there* will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.' |
Matthew 25:31 | But when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then will he be seated in his glory: | But when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit down upon his throne of glory, | "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then will He sit upon His glorious throne, |
Matthew 25:32 | And before him all the nations will come together; and they will be parted one from another, as the sheep are parted from the goats by the keeper. | and all the nations shall be gathered before him; and he shall separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; | and all the nations will be gathered into His presence. And He will separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; |
Matthew 25:33 | And he will put the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. | and he will set the sheep on his right hand, and the goats on [his] left. | and will make the sheep stand at His right hand, and the goats at His left. |
Matthew 25:34 | Then will the King say to those on his right, Come, you who have the blessing of my Father, into the kingdom made ready for you before the world was: | Then shall the King say to those on his right hand, Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from [the] world's foundation: | "Then the King will say to those at His right, "`Come, my Father's blessed ones, receive your inheritance of the Kingdom which has been divinely intended for you ever since the creation of the world. |
Matthew 25:35 | For I was in need of food, and you gave it to me: I was in need of drink, and you gave it to me: I was wandering, and you took me in; | for I hungered, and ye gave me to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; | For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome; |
Matthew 25:36 | I had no clothing, and you gave it to me: when I was ill, or in prison, you came to me. | naked, and ye clothed me; I was ill, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came to me. | when I was ill-clad, you clothed me; when I was sick, you visited me; when I was in prison, you came to see me.' |
Matthew 25:37 | Then will the upright make answer to him, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food, and give it to you? or in need of drink, and give it to you? | Then shall the righteous answer him saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungering, and nourished thee; or thirsting, and gave thee to drink? | "`When, Lord,' the righteous will reply, `did we see Thee hungry, and feed Thee; or thirsty, and give Thee drink? |
Matthew 25:38 | And when did we see you wandering, and take you in? or without clothing, and give it to you? | and when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in; or naked, and clothed thee? | When did we see Thee homeless, and give Thee a welcome? or ill-clad, and clothe Thee? |
Matthew 25:39 | And when did we see you ill, or in prison, and come to you? | and when saw we thee ill, or in prison, and came to thee? | When did we see Thee sick or in prison, and come to see Thee?' |
Matthew 25:40 | And the King will make answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Because you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. | And the King answering shall say to them, Verily, I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me. | "But the King will answer them, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you rendered such services to one of the humblest of these my brethren, you rendered them to myself.' |
Matthew 25:41 | Then will he say to those on the left, Go from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire which is ready for the Evil One and his angels: | Then shall he say also to those on the left, Go from me, cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: | "Then will He say to those at His left, "`Begone from me, with the curse resting upon you, into the Fire of the Ages, which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels. |
Matthew 25:42 | For I was in need of food, and you gave it not to me; I was in need of drink, and you gave it not to me: | for I hungered, and ye gave me not to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave me not to drink; | For when I was hungry, you gave me nothing to eat; when thirsty, you gave me nothing to drink; |
Matthew 25:43 | I was wandering, and you took me not in; without clothing, and you gave me no clothing; ill, and in prison, and you came not to me. | I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye did not clothe me; ill, and in prison, and ye did not visit me. | when homeless, you gave me no welcome; ill-clad, you clothed me not; sick or in prison, you visited me not.' |
Matthew 25:44 | Then will they make answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you in need of food or drink, or wandering, or without clothing, or ill, or in prison, and did not take care of you? | Then shall *they* also answer saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or ill, or in prison, and have not ministered to thee? | "Then will they also answer, "`Lord, when did we see Thee hungry or thirsty or homeless or ill-clad or sick or in prison, and not come to serve Thee?' |
Matthew 25:45 | Then will he make answer to them, saying, Truly I say to you, Because you did it not to the least of these, you did it not to me. | Then shall he answer them saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have not done it to one of these least, neither have ye done it to me. | "But he will reply, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you withheld such services from one of the humblest of these, you withheld them from me.' |
Matthew 25:46 | And these will go away into eternal punishment; but the upright into eternal life. | And these shall go away into eternal punishment, and the righteous into life eternal. | "And these shall go away into the Punishment of the Ages, but the righteous into the Life of the Ages." |
