Numbers 5:1 | And the Lord said to Moses, | And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, | Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, |
Numbers 5:2 | Give orders to the children of Israel to put outside the tent-circle every leper, and anyone who has any sort of flow from his body, and anyone who is unclean from the touch of the dead; | Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one that hath an issue, and whosoever is defiled by a dead person: | Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and everyone who has an issue, and whoever is unclean by the dead: |
Numbers 5:3 | Male or female they are to be put outside the tent-circle, so that they may not make unclean my resting-place among them. | both male and female shall ye put out; outside the camp shall ye put them, that they defile not their camps, in the midst whereof I dwell. | both male and female shall you put out, outside of the camp shall you put them; that they not defile their camp, in the midst whereof I dwell. |
Numbers 5:4 | So the children of Israel did as the Lord had said to Moses, and put them outside the tent-circle. | And the children of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp: as Jehovah had said to Moses, so did the children of Israel. | The children of Israel did so, and put them out outside of the camp; as Yahweh spoke to Moses, so did the children of Israel. |
Numbers 5:5 | And the Lord said to Moses, | And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, | Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, |
Numbers 5:6 | Say to the children of Israel, If a man or a woman does any of the sins of men, going against the word of the Lord, and is in the wrong; | Speak unto the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall commit any of all the sins of man to work unfaithfulness against Jehovah, and that soul is guilty, | Speak to the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, so as to trespass against Yahweh, and that soul shall be guilty; |
Numbers 5:7 | Let them say openly what they have done; and make payment for the wrong done, with the addition of a fifth part, and give it to him to whom the wrong was done. | then they shall confess their sin which they have done; and he shall recompense his trespass according to the principal thereof, and shall add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed. | then he shall confess his sin which he has done: and he shall make restitution for his guilt in full, and add to it the fifth part of it, and give it to him in respect of whom he has been guilty. |
Numbers 5:8 | But if the man has no relation to whom the payment may be made, then the payment for sin made to the Lord will be the priest's, in addition to the sheep offered to take away his sin. | And if the man have no kinsman to recompense the trespass unto, the trespass which is recompensed to Jehovah shall be the priest's, besides the ram of the atonement, wherewith an atonement is made for him. | But if the man have no kinsman to whom restitution may be made for the guilt, the restitution for guilt which is made to Yahweh shall be the priest's; besides the ram of the atonement, whereby atonement shall be made for him. |
Numbers 5:9 | And every offering lifted up of all the holy things which the children of Israel give to the priest, will be his. | And every heave-offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they present unto the priest, shall be his. | Every heave-offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they present to the priest, shall be his. |
Numbers 5:10 | And every man's holy things will be his: whatever a man gives to the priest will be his. | And every man's hallowed things shall be his: whatever any man giveth the priest shall be his. | Every man's holy things shall be his: whatever any man gives the priest, it shall be his. |
Numbers 5:11 | And the Lord said to Moses, | And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, | Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, |
Numbers 5:12 | Say to the children of Israel, If any man's wife does wrong, sinning against him | Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man's wife go astray, and commit unfaithfulness against him, | Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, If any man's wife go aside, and commit a trespass against him, |
Numbers 5:13 | By taking as her lover another man, and keeps it secret so that her husband has no knowledge of it, and there is no witness against her, and she is not taken in the act; | and a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and she be defiled in secret, and there be no witness against her, and she have not been caught; | and a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept close, and she is defiled, and there be no witness against her, and she isn't taken in the act; |
Numbers 5:14 | If the spirit of doubt comes into her husband's heart, and he has doubts of his wife, with good cause; or if he has doubts of her without cause: | and the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she have been defiled, or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she have not been defiled, | and the spirit of jealousy come on him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy comes on him, and he is jealous of his wife, and she isn't defiled: |
Numbers 5:15 | Then let him take her to the priest, offering for her the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal, without oil or perfume; for it is a meal offering of a bitter spirit, a meal offering keeping wrongdoing in mind. | then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, a tenth part of an ephah of barley-meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an oblation of jealousy, a memorial oblation, bringing iniquity to remembrance. | then shall the man bring his wife to the priest, and shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil on it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is a meal-offering of jealousy, a meal-offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to memory. |

Numbers 5:18 | And he will make the woman come before the Lord with her hair loose, and will put the meal offering, the offering of a bitter spirit, in her hands; and the priest will take in his hand the bitter water causing the curse; | And the priest shall set the woman before Jehovah, and uncover the woman's head, and put the memorial oblation in her hands, which is the jealousy offering; and in the hand of the priest shall be the bitter water that bringeth the curse. | The priest shall set the woman before Yahweh, and let the hair of the woman's head go loose, and put the meal-offering of memorial in her hands, which is the meal-offering of jealousy: and the priest shall have in his hand the water of bitterness that causes the curse. |
Numbers 5:19 | And he will make her take an oath, and say to her, If no man has been your lover and you have not been with another in place of your husband, you are free from this bitter water causing the curse; | And the priest shall adjure her, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone astray in uncleanness, in being with another instead of thy husband, be free from this bitter water that bringeth the curse. | The priest shall cause her to swear, and shall tell the woman, If no man has lain with you, and if you haven't gone aside to uncleanness, being under your husband, be you free from this water of bitterness that causes the curse. |
Numbers 5:20 | But if you have been with another in place of your husband and have made yourself unclean with a lover: | But if thou hast gone astray to another instead of thy husband, and hast been defiled, and a man other than thy husband have lain with thee, | But if you have gone aside, being under your husband, and if you be defiled, and some man have lain with you besides your husband: |
Numbers 5:21 | Then the priest will put the oath of the curse on the woman, and say to her, May the Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people, sending on you wasting of the legs and disease of the stomach; | then the priest shall adjure the woman with the oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman: Jehovah make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when Jehovah doth make thy thigh to shrink, and thy belly to swell; | then the priest shall cause the woman to swear with the oath of cursing, and the priest shall tell the woman, Yahweh make you a curse and an oath among your people, when Yahweh does make your thigh to fall away, and your body to swell; |
Numbers 5:22 | And this water of the curse will go into your body, causing disease of your stomach and wasting of your legs: and the woman will say, So be it. | and this water that bringeth the curse shall enter into thy bowels, to make the belly to swell, and the thigh to shrink. And the woman shall say, Amen, amen. | and this water that causes the curse shall go into your bowels, and make your body to swell, and your thigh to fall away. The woman shall say, Amen, Amen. |
Numbers 5:23 | And the priest will put these curses in a book, washing out the writing with the bitter water; | And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and shall blot them out with the bitter water, | The priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out into the water of bitterness: |
Numbers 5:24 | And he will give to the woman the bitter water for drink; and the bitter water causing the curse will go into her. | and he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that bringeth the curse, that the water that bringeth the curse may enter into her for bitterness. | and he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that causes the curse; and the water that causes the curse shall enter into her [and become] bitter. |
Numbers 5:25 | And the priest will take from her hand the meal offering of doubt, waving it before the Lord, and will take it to the altar; | And the priest shall take out of the woman's hand the oblation of jealousy, and shall wave the oblation before Jehovah, and shall present it at the altar. | The priest shall take the meal-offering of jealousy out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the meal-offering before Yahweh, and bring it to the altar: |
Numbers 5:26 | And he will take some of it in his hand, burning it on the altar as a sign, and then he will give the woman the bitter water. | And the priest shall take a handful of the oblation as a memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar; and afterwards he shall make the woman drink the water. | and the priest shall take a handful of the meal-offering, as the memorial of it, and burn it on the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water. |
Numbers 5:27 | And it will be that if the woman has become unclean, sinning against her husband, when she has taken the bitter water it will go into her body, causing disease of the stomach and wasting of the legs, and she will be a curse among her people. | And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, if she have been defiled, and have committed unfaithfulness against her husband, that the water that bringeth the curse shall enter into her, for bitterness, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall shrink; and the woman shall become a curse among her people. | When he has made her drink the water, then it shall happen, if she be defiled, and have committed a trespass against her husband, that the water that causes the curse shall enter into her [and become] bitter, and her body shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away: and the woman shall be a curse among her people. |
Numbers 5:28 | But if she is clean she will be free and will have offspring. | But if the woman have not been defiled, and be clean, then she shall be clear, and shall conceive seed. | If the woman isn't defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed. |
Numbers 5:29 | This is the law for testing a wife who goes with another in place of her husband and becomes unclean; | This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth astray to another instead of her husband and is defiled, | This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, being under her husband, goes aside, and is defiled; |
Numbers 5:30 | Or for a husband who, in a bitter spirit, has doubts in his heart about his wife; let him take her to the priest, who will put in force this law. | or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon a man, and he is jealous as regards his wife; then shall he set the woman before Jehovah, and the priest shall do to her according to all this law. | or when the spirit of jealousy comes on a man, and he is jealous of his wife; then shall he set the woman before Yahweh, and the priest shall execute on her all this law. |
Numbers 5:31 | Then the man will be free from all wrong, and the woman's sin will be on her. | Then shall the man be free from iniquity, but that woman shall bear her iniquity. | The man shall be free from iniquity, and that woman shall bear her iniquity. |
