Philemon 1:1Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith,Paul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon the beloved and our fellow-workman,Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our beloved fellow worker,
Philemon 1:2And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house:and to the sister Apphia and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the assembly which [is] in thine house.to the beloved Apphia, to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the assembly in your house:
Philemon 1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you,I thank my God, always making mention of thee at my prayers,I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers,
Philemon 1:5Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints;hearing of thy love and the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints,hearing of your love, and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints;
Philemon 1:6That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ.in such sort that thy participation in the faith should become operative in the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in us towards Christ [Jesus].that the fellowship of your faith may become effective, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in us, in Christ Jesus.
Philemon 1:7For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.For we have great thankfulness and encouragement through thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.For we have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.
Philemon 1:8And so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right,Wherefore having much boldness in Christ to enjoin thee what is fitting,Therefore, though I have all boldness in Christ to command you that which is appropriate,
Philemon 1:9Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus:for love's sake I rather exhort, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also prisoner of Jesus Christ.yet for love's sake I rather beg, being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus.
Philemon 1:10My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains,I exhort thee for *my* child, whom I have begotten in [my] bonds, Onesimus,I beg you for my child, whom I have fathered in my bonds, Onesimus,
Philemon 1:11Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me:once unserviceable to thee, but now serviceable to thee and to me:who once was useless to you, but now is useful to you and to me;
Philemon 1:12Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart:whom I have sent back to thee: [but do *thou* receive] him, that is, *my* bowels:I am sending him back. You therefore receive him, that is, my own heart,
Philemon 1:13Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place:whom *I* was desirous of keeping with myself, that for thee he might minister to me in the bonds of the glad tidings;whom I wanted to keep with me, that in your behalf he might minister to me in the bonds of the gospel.
Philemon 1:14But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart.but I have wished to do nothing without thy mind, that thy good might not be as of necessity but of willingness:But I was willing to do nothing without your consent, that your goodness would not be as of necessity, but of free will.
Philemon 1:15For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever;for perhaps for this reason he has been separated [from thee] for a time, that thou mightest possess him fully for ever;For perhaps he was therefore separated from you for a while, that you would have him forever,
Philemon 1:16No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord.not any longer as a bondman, but above a bondman, a beloved brother, specially to me, and how much rather to thee, both in [the] flesh and in [the] Lord?no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, specially to me, but how much rather to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.
Philemon 1:17If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself.If therefore thou holdest me to be a partner [with thee], receive him as me;If then you count me a partner, receive him as you would receive me.
Philemon 1:18If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account.but if he have wronged thee anything or owe anything [to thee], put this to my account.But if he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, put that to my account.
Philemon 1:19I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life.*I* Paul have written [it] with mine own hand; *I* will repay [it]: that I say not to thee that thou owest even thine own self also to me.I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it (not to mention to you that you owe to me even your own self besides).
Philemon 1:20So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ.Yea, brother, *I* would have profit of *thee* in [the] Lord: refresh my bowels in Christ.Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in the Lord.
Philemon 1:21Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say.Being confident of thine obedience, I have written to thee, knowing that thou wilt do even more than I say.Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even beyond what I say.
Philemon 1:22And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you.But withal prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that I shall be granted to you through your prayers.Also, prepare a guest room for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you.
Philemon 1:23Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love;Epaphras salutes thee, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,
Philemon 1:24And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my brother-workers.Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workmen.as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So be it.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with your spirit.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
