Ezekiel 14:1 | Then certain of the responsible men of Israel came to me and took their seats before me. | And there came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me. | And come in unto me do certain of the elders of Israel, and sit before me. |
Ezekiel 14:2 | And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, | And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, | And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying, |
Ezekiel 14:3 | Son of man, these men have taken their false gods into their hearts and put before their faces the sin which is the cause of their fall: am I to give ear when they come to me for directions? | Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them? | `Son of man, these men have caused their idols to go up on their heart, and the stumbling-block of their iniquity they have put over-against their faces; am I inquired of at all by them? |
Ezekiel 14:4 | For this cause say to them, These are the words of the Lord: Every man of Israel who has taken his false god into his heart, and put before his face the sin which is the cause of his fall, and comes to the prophet; I the Lord will give him an answer by myself in agreement with the number of his false gods; | Therefore speak to them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet, I Jehovah will answer him according to this, according to the multitude of his idols: | `Therefore, speak with them, and thou hast said unto them: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Every one of the house of Israel who causeth his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity setteth over-against his face, and hath gone in unto the prophet I Jehovah have given an answer to him for this, for the abundance of his idols, |
Ezekiel 14:5 | So as to take the children of Israel in the thoughts of their hearts, because they have become strange to me through their false gods. | that I may take the house of Israel by their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. | in order to catch the house of Israel by their heart, in that they have become estranged from off me by their idols all of them. |
Ezekiel 14:6 | For this cause say to the children of Israel, These are the words of the Lord: Come back and give up your false gods and let your faces be turned from your disgusting things. | Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Return ye, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. | `Therefore say unto the house of Israel: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Turn ye back, yea, turn ye back from your idols, and from all your abominations turn back your faces, |
Ezekiel 14:7 | When any one of the men of Israel, or of those from other lands who are living in Israel, who has become strange to me, and takes his false gods into his heart, and puts before his face the sin which is the cause of his fall, comes to the prophet to get directions from me; I the Lord will give him an answer by myself: | For every one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, who separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet to inquire of me by him, I Jehovah will answer him by myself; | for every one of the house of Israel, and of the sojourners who doth sojourn in Israel, who is separated from after Me, and doth cause his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity setteth over-against his face, and hath come in unto the prophet to inquire of him concerning Me, I, Jehovah, have answered him for Myself; |
Ezekiel 14:8 | And my face will be turned against that man, and I will make him a sign and a common saying, cutting him off from among my people; and you will be certain that I am the Lord. | and I will set my face against that man, and will make him desolate, [so that he shall be] for a sign and for proverbs, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people: and ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah. | and I have set My face against that man, and made him for a sign, and for similes, and I have cut him off from the midst of My people, and ye have known that I [am] Jehovah. |
Ezekiel 14:9 | And if the prophet, tricked by deceit, says anything, it is I the Lord by whom he has been tricked, and I will put out my hand against him, and he will be cut off from among my people Israel. | And if the prophet be enticed and shall speak a word, I Jehovah have enticed that prophet; and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. | `And the prophet, when he is enticed, and hath spoken a word I, Jehovah, I have enticed that prophet, and have stretched out My hand against him, and have destroyed him from the midst of My people Israel. |
Ezekiel 14:10 | And the punishment of their sin will be on them: the sin of the prophet will be the same as the sin of him who goes to him for directions; | And they shall bear their iniquity: the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of the inquirer; | And they have borne their iniquity: as the iniquity of the inquirer, so is the iniquity of the prophet; |
Ezekiel 14:11 | So that the children of Israel may no longer go wandering away from me, or make themselves unclean with all their wrongdoing; but they will be my people, and I will be their God, says the Lord. | that the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither make themselves any more unclean with all their transgressions; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, saith the Lord Jehovah. | so that the house of Israel do not wander any more from after Me, nor are defiled any more with all their transgressions, and they have been to Me for a people, and I am to them for God an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.` |

Ezekiel 14:13 | Son of man, when a land, sinning against me, does wrong, and my hand is stretched out against it, and the support of its bread is broken, and I make it short of food, cutting off man and beast from it: | Son of man, when a land sinneth against me by working unfaithfulness, and I stretch out my hand upon it, and break the staff of the bread thereof, and send famine upon it, and cut off man and beast from it; | `Son of man, the land when it sinneth against Me to commit a trespass, and I have stretched out My hand against it, and broken for it the staff of bread, and sent into it famine, and cut off from it man and beast |
Ezekiel 14:14 | Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, only themselves would they keep safe by their righteousness, says the Lord. | though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, should be in it, they should deliver [but] their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord Jehovah. | and these three men have been in its midst, Noah, Daniel, and Job they by their righteousness deliver their own soul an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah. |
Ezekiel 14:15 | Or if I send evil beasts through the land causing destruction and making it waste, so that no man may go through because of the beasts: | If I cause evil beasts to pass through the land, and they bereave it, and it become a desolation, so that no one passeth through because of the beasts; | `If an evil beast I cause to pass through the land, and it hath bereaved, and it hath been a desolation, without any passing through because of the beast |
Ezekiel 14:16 | Even if these three men were in it, by my life, says the Lord, they would not keep safe their sons or daughters, but only themselves, and the land would be made waste. | though these three men should be in it, [as] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither sons nor daughters: they only should be delivered, and the land should be a desolation. | these three men in its midst: I live an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah neither sons nor daughters do they deliver; they alone are delivered, and the land is a desolation. |
Ezekiel 14:17 | Or if I send a sword against that land, and say, Sword, go through the land, cutting off from it man and beast: | Or [if] I bring the sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land, so that I cut off man and beast from it, | `Or a sword I bring in against that land, and I have said: Sword, thou dost pass over through the land, and I have cut off from it man and beast |
Ezekiel 14:18 | Even if these three men were in it, by my life, says the Lord, they would not keep safe their sons or daughters, but only themselves. | and these three men should be in it, [as] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only themselves should be delivered. | and these three men in its midst: I live an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah they deliver not sons and daughters, for they alone are delivered. |
Ezekiel 14:19 | Or if I send disease into that land, letting loose my wrath on it in blood, cutting off from it man and beast: | Or [if] I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast, | `Or pestilence I send unto that land, and I have poured out My fury against it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast |
Ezekiel 14:20 | Even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, by my life, says the Lord, they would not keep son or daughter safe; only themselves would they keep safe through their righteousness. | and Noah, Daniel, and Job should be in it, [as] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither son nor daughter: they should [but] deliver their own souls by their righteousness. | and Noah, Daniel, and Job, in its midst: I live an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah neither son nor daughter do they deliver; they, by their righteousness, deliver their own soul. |
Ezekiel 14:21 | For this is what the Lord has said: How much more when I send my four bitter punishments on Jerusalem, the sword and need of food and evil beasts and disease, cutting off from it man and beast? | For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the evil beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast! | `For thus said the Lord Jehovah: Although My four sore judgments sword, and famine, and wild beast, and pestilence I have sent unto Jerusalem, to cut off from it man and beast, |
Ezekiel 14:22 | But truly, there will still be a small band who will be safe, even sons and daughters: and they will come out to you, and you will see their ways and their doings: and you will be comforted about the evil which I have sent on Jerusalem, even about everything I have sent on it. | But behold, there shall be left in it those that escape, who shall be brought out of [it], sons and daughters. Behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings; and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, as to all that I have brought upon it. | yet, lo, there hath been left in it an escape, who are brought forth, sons and daughters, lo, they are coming forth unto you, and ye have seen their way, and their doings, and have been comforted concerning the evil that I have brought in against Jerusalem, all that which I have brought in against it. |
Ezekiel 14:23 | They will give you comfort when you see their ways and their doings: and you will be certain that not for nothing have I done all the things I have done in it, says the Lord. | And they shall comfort you, when ye see their way and their doings; and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord Jehovah. | And they have comforted you, for ye see their way and their doings, and ye have known that not for nought have I done all that which I have done in her an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.` |
