Matthew 20:1 | For the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a house, who went out early in the morning to get workers into his vine-garden. | The kingdom of heaven is like to an householder, who went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. | For the kingdom of the heavens is like a householder who went out with the early morn to hire workmen for his vineyard. |
Matthew 20:2 | And when he had made an agreement with the workmen for a penny a day, he sent them into his vine-garden. | And having agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. | And having agreed with the workmen for a denarius the day, he sent them into his vineyard. |
Matthew 20:3 | And he went out about the third hour, and saw others in the market-place doing nothing; | And going about the third hour, he saw others standing in the market place idle. | And having gone out about [the] third hour, he saw others standing in the market-place idle; |
Matthew 20:4 | And he said to them, Go into the vine-garden with the others, and whatever is right I will give you. And they went to work. | And he said to them: Go you also into my vineyard, and I will give you what shall be just. | and to them he said, Go also ye into the vineyard, and whatsoever may be just I will give you. And they went their way. |
Matthew 20:5 | Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did the same. | And they went their way. And again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did in like manner. | Again, having gone out about the sixth and ninth hour, he did likewise. |
Matthew 20:6 | And about the eleventh hour he went out and saw others doing nothing; and he says to them, Why are you here all the day doing nothing? | But about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing, and he saith to them: Why stand you here all the day idle? | But about the eleventh [hour], having gone out, he found others standing, and says to them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? |
Matthew 20:7 | They say to him, Because no man has given us work. He says to them, Go in with the rest, into the vine-garden. | They say to him: Because no man hath hired us. He saith to them: Go you also into my vineyard. | They say to him, Because no man has hired us. He says to them, Go also ye into the vineyard [and whatsoever may be just ye shall receive]. |
Matthew 20:8 | And when evening came, the lord of the vine-garden said to his manager, Let the workers come, and give them their payment, from the last to the first. | And when evening was come, the lord of the vineyard saith to his steward: Call the labourers and pay them their hire, beginning from the last even to the first. | But when the evening was come, the lord of the vineyard says to his steward, Call the workmen and pay [them] their wages, beginning from the last even to the first. |
Matthew 20:9 | And when those men came who had gone to work at the eleventh hour, they were given every man a penny. | When therefore they were come, that came about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. | And when they [who came to work] about the eleventh hour came, they received each a denarius. |
Matthew 20:10 | Then those who came first had the idea that they would get more; and they, like the rest, were given a penny. | But when the first also came, they thought that they should receive more: and they also received every man a penny. | And when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more, and they received also themselves each a denarius. |
Matthew 20:11 | And when they got it, they made a protest against the master of the house, | And receiving it they murmured against the master of the house, | And on receiving it they murmured against the master of the house, |

Matthew 20:13 | But he in answer said to one of them, Friend, I do you no wrong: did you not make an agreement with me for a penny? | But he answering said to one of them: Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst thou not agree with me for a penny? | But he answering said to one of them, [My] friend, I do not wrong thee. Didst thou not agree with me for a denarius? |
Matthew 20:14 | Take what is yours, and go away; it is my pleasure to give to this last, even as to you. | Take what is thine, and go thy way: I will also give to this last even as to thee. | Take what is thine and go. But it is my will to give to this last even as to thee: |
Matthew 20:15 | Have I not the right to do as seems good to me in my house? or is your eye evil, because I am good? | Or, is it not lawful for me to do what I will? is thy eye evil, because I am good? | is it not lawful for me to do what I will in my own affairs? Is thine eye evil because *I* am good? |
Matthew 20:16 | So the last will be first, and the first last. | So shall the last be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen. | Thus shall the last be first, and the first last; for many are called ones, but few chosen ones. |
Matthew 20:17 | And when Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples on one side, and said to them, | And Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples apart, and said to them: | And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples with [him] apart in the way, and said to them, |
Matthew 20:18 | See, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be given into the hands of the chief priests and scribes; and they will give orders for him to be put to death, | Behold we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed to the chief priests and the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death. | Behold we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man will be delivered up to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death; |
Matthew 20:19 | And will give him up to the Gentiles to be made sport of and to be whipped and to be put to death on the cross: and the third day he will come back again from the dead. | And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked, and scourged, and crucified, and the third day he shall rise again. | and they will deliver him up to the nations to mock and to scourge and to crucify, and the third day he shall rise again. |
Matthew 20:20 | Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, giving him worship and making a request of him. | Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, adoring and asking something of him. | Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee, with her sons, doing homage, and asking something of him. |
Matthew 20:21 | And he said to her, What is your desire? She says to him, Let my two sons be seated, the one at your right hand, and the other at your left, in your kingdom. | Who said to her: What wilt thou? She saith to him: Say that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left, in thy kingdom. | And he said to her, What wilt thou? She says to him, Speak [the word] that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand and one on thy left in thy kingdom. |
Matthew 20:22 | But Jesus made answer and said, You have no idea what you are requesting. Are you able to take of the cup which I am about to take? | And Jesus answering, said: You know not what you ask. Can you drink the chalice that I shall drink? They say to him: We can. | And Jesus answering said, Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink the cup which *I* am about to drink? They say to him, We are able. |
Matthew 20:23 | They say to him, We are able. He says to them, Truly, you will take of my cup: but to be seated at my right hand and at my left is not for me to give, but it is for those for whom my Father has made it ready. | He saith to them: My chalice indeed you shall drink; but to sit on my right or left hand, is not mine to give to you, but to them for whom it is prepared by my Father. | [And] he says to them, Ye shall drink indeed my cup, but to sit on my right hand and on [my] left, is not mine to give, but to those for whom it is prepared of my Father. |

Matthew 20:25 | But Jesus said to them, You see that the rulers of the Gentiles are lords over them, and their great ones have authority over them. | But Jesus called them to him, and said: You know that the princes of the Gentiles lord it over them; and they that are the greater, exercise power upon them. | But Jesus having called them to [him], said, Ye know that the rulers of the nations exercise lordship over them, and the great exercise authority over them. |
Matthew 20:26 | Let it not be so among you: but if anyone has a desire to become great among you, let him be your servant; | It shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be the greater among you, let him be your minister: | It shall not be thus amongst you, but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your servant; |
Matthew 20:27 | And whoever has a desire to be first among you, let him take the lowest place: | And he that will be first among you, shall be your servant. | and whosoever will be first among you, let him be your bondman; |
Matthew 20:28 | Even as the Son of man did not come to have servants, but to be a servant, and to give his life for the salvation of men. | Even as the Son of man is not come to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a redemption for many. | as indeed the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many. |

But they cried out the more, saying, Have mercy on us, Lord, Son of David. |

And immediately they saw, and followed him. | And Jesus, moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes had sight restored to them, and they followed him. |
