Zephaniah 3:1Sorrow to her who is uncontrolled and unclean, the cruel town!Woe to the provoking, and redeemed city, the dove.Woe to her that is rebellious and corrupted, to the oppressing city!
Zephaniah 3:2She gave no attention to the voice, she had no use for teaching, she put no faith in the Lord, she did not come near to her God.She hath not hearkened to the voice, neither hath she received discipline: she hath not trusted in the Lord, she drew not near to her God.She hearkened not to the voice; she received not correction; she confided not in Jehovah; she drew not near her God.
Zephaniah 3:3Her rulers are like loud-voiced lions in her; her judges are wolves of the evening, crushing up the bones before the morning. Her princes are in the midst of her as roaring lions: her judges are evening wolves, they left nothing for the morning. Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves, that leave nothing for the morning.
Zephaniah 3:4Her prophets are good-for-nothing persons, full of deceit: her priests have made the holy place unclean and have gone violently against the law.Her prophets are senseless men without faith: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have acted unjustly against the law.Her prophets are vain-glorious, treacherous persons; her priests profane the sanctuary, they do violence to the law.
Zephaniah 3:5The Lord in her is upright; he will not do evil; every morning he lets his righteousness be seen, he is unchanging; but the evil-doer has no sense of shame. The just Lord is in the midst thereof, he will not do iniquity: in the morning, in the morning he will bring his judgment to light, and it shall not be hid: but the wicked man hath not known shame. The righteous Jehovah is in the midst of her: he doeth no wrong. Every morning doth he bring his judgment to light; it faileth not: but the unrighteous knoweth no shame.
Zephaniah 3:6I have had the nations cut off, their towers are broken down; I have made their streets a waste so that no one goes through them: destruction has overtaken their towns, so that there is no man living in them.I have destroyed the nations, and their towers are beaten down: I have made their ways desert, so that there is none that passeth by: their cities are desolate, there is not a man remaining, nor any inhabitant.I have cut off nations: their battlements are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant.
Zephaniah 3:7I said, Certainly you will go in fear of me, and come under my training, so that whatever I may send on her may not be cut off before her eyes: but they got up early and made all their works evil.I said: Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive correction: and her dwelling shall not perish, for all things wherein I have visited her: but they rose early and corrupted all their thoughts.I said, Only fear me, receive correction; so her dwelling shall not be cut off, howsoever I may punish her. But they rose early, they corrupted all their doings.
Zephaniah 3:8For this reason, go on waiting for me, says the Lord, till the day when I come up as a witness: for my purpose is to send for the nations and to get the kingdoms together, so that I may let loose on them my passion, even all my burning wrath: for all the earth will be burned up in the fire of my bitter passion.Wherefore expect me, saith the Lord, in the day of my resurrection that is to come, for my judgment is to assemble the Gentiles, and to gather the kingdoms: and to pour upon them my indignation, all my fierce anger: for with the fire of my jealousy shall all the earth be devoured. Therefore wait ye for me, saith Jehovah, until the day that I rise up to the prey; for my determination is to assemble the nations, that I may gather the kingdoms together, to pour upon them mine indignation, all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
Zephaniah 3:9For then I will give the people a clean language, so that they may all make prayer to the Lord and be his servants with one mind.Because then I will restore to the people a chosen lip, that all may call upon the name of the Lord, and may serve him with one shoulder. For then will I turn to the peoples a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Jehovah, to serve him with one consent.
Zephaniah 3:10From over the rivers of Ethiopia, and from the sides of the north, they will come to me with an offering. From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, shall my suppliants the children of my dispersed people bring me an offering. From beyond the rivers of Cush my suppliants, the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine oblation.
Zephaniah 3:11In that day you will have no shame on account of all the things in which you did evil against me: for then I will take away from among you those who were lifted up in pride, and you will no longer be lifted up with pride in my holy mountain. In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee thy proud boasters, and thou shalt no more be lifted up because of my holy mountain. In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings wherein thou hast transgressed against me; for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that exult in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.
Zephaniah 3:12But I will still have among you a quiet and poor people, and they will put their faith in the name of the Lord. And I will leave in the midst of thee a poor and needy people: and they shall hope in the name of the Lord. And I will leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of Jehovah.
Zephaniah 3:13The rest of Israel will do no evil and say no false words; the tongue of deceit will not be seen in their mouth: for they will take their food and their rest, and no one will be a cause of fear to them. The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies, nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed, and shall lie down, and there shall be none to make them afraid. The remnant of Israel shall not work unrighteousness, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: but *they* shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
Zephaniah 3:14Make melody, O daughter of Zion; give a loud cry, O Israel; be glad and let your heart be full of joy, O daughter of Jerusalem.Give praise, O daughter of Sion: shout, O Israel: be glad, and rejoice with all thy heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.Exult, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; rejoice and be glad with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem:
Zephaniah 3:15The Lord has taken away those who were judging you, he has sent your haters far away: the King of Israel, even the Lord, is among you: you will have no more fear of evil. The Lord hath taken away thy judgment, he hath turned away thy enemies: the king of Israel the Lord is in the midst of thee, thou shalt fear evil no more.Jehovah hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy; the King of Israel, Jehovah, is in the midst of thee; thou shalt not see evil any more.
Zephaniah 3:16In that day it will be said to Jerusalem, Have no fear: O Zion, let not your hands be feeble. In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not: to Sion: Let not thy hands be weakened. In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear not; Zion, let not thy hands be slack.
Zephaniah 3:17The Lord your God is among you, as a strong saviour: he will be glad over you with joy, he will make his love new again, he will make a song of joy over you as in the time of a holy feast. The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty, he will save: he will rejoice over thee with gladness, he will be silent in his love, he will be joyful over thee in praise.Jehovah thy God is in thy midst, a mighty one that will save: he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will exult over thee with singing.
Zephaniah 3:18I will take away your troubles, lifting up your shame from off you.The triflers that were departed from the law, I will gather together, because they were of thee: that thou mayest no more suffer reproach for them.I will gather them that sorrow for the solemn assemblies, who were of thee: the reproach of it was a burden [unto them].
Zephaniah 3:19See, at that time I will put an end to all who have been troubling you: I will give salvation to her whose steps are uncertain, and get together her who has been sent in flight; and I will make them a cause of praise and an honoured name in all the earth, when I let their fate be changed.Behold I will cut off all that have afflicted thee at that time: and I will save her that halteth, and will gather her that was cast out: and I will get them praise, and a name, in all the land where they had been put to confusion.Behold, at that time I will deal with all them that afflict thee; and I will save her that halted, and gather her that was driven out; and I will make them a praise and a name in all the lands where they have been put to shame.
Zephaniah 3:20At that time I will make you come in, at that time I will get you together: for I will make you a name and a praise among all the peoples of the earth when I let your fate be changed before your eyes, says the Lord.At that time, when I will bring you: and at the time that I will gather you: for I will give you a name, and praise among all the people of the earth, when I shall have brought back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.At that time will I bring you, yea, at the time that I gather you; for I will make you a name and a praise, among all the peoples of the earth, when I shall turn again your captivity before your eyes, saith Jehovah.
