John 10:1 | Truly I say to you, He who does not go through the door into the place where the sheep are kept, but gets in by some other way, is a thief and an outlaw. | Amen, amen I say to you: He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up another way, the same is a thief and a robber. | "In most solemn truth I tell you that the man who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs over some other way, is a thief and a robber. |
John 10:2 | He who goes in by the door is the keeper of the sheep. | But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. | But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. |
John 10:3 | The porter lets him in; and the sheep give ear to his voice; he says over the names of the sheep, and takes them out. | To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. | To him the porter opens the door, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by their names and leads them out. |
John 10:4 | When he has got them all out, he goes before them, and the sheep go after him, for they have knowledge of his voice. | And when he hath let out his own sheep, he goeth before them: and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. | When he has brought out his own sheep all of them he walks at the head of them; and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. |
John 10:5 | They will not go after another who is not their keeper, but will go from him in flight, because his voice is strange to them. | But a stranger they follow not, but fly from him, because they know not the voice of strangers. | But a stranger they will by no means follow, but will run away from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers." |
John 10:6 | In this Jesus was teaching them in the form of a story: but what he said was not clear to them. | This proverb Jesus spoke to them. But they understood not what he spoke to them. | Jesus spoke to them in this figurative language, but they did not understand what He meant. |
John 10:7 | So Jesus said again, Truly I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. | Jesus therefore said to them again: Amen, amen I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. | Again therefore Jesus said to them, "In most solemn truth I tell you that I am the Door of the sheep. |
John 10:8 | All who came before me are thieves and outlaws: but the sheep did not give ear to them. | All others, as many as have come, are thieves and robbers: and the sheep heard them not. | All who have come before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep would not listen to them. |
John 10:9 | I am the door: if any man goes in through me he will have salvation, and will go in and go out, and will get food. | I am the door. By me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved: and he shall go in, and go out, and shall find pastures. | I am the Door. If any one enters by me, he will find safety, and will go in and out and find pasture. |
John 10:10 | The thief comes only to take the sheep and to put them to death: he comes for their destruction: I have come so that they may have life and have it in greater measure. | The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I am come that they may have life, and may have it more abundantly. | The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy: I have come that they may have Life, and may have it in abundance. |
John 10:11 | I am the good keeper of sheep: the good keeper gives his life for the sheep. | I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep. | "I am the Good Shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his very life for the sheep. |
John 10:12 | He who is a servant, and not the keeper or the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming and goes in flight, away from the sheep; and the wolf comes down on them and sends them in all directions: | But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and flieth: and the wolf catcheth, and scattereth the sheep: | The hired servant one who is not a shepherd and does not own the sheep no sooner sees the wolf coming than he leaves the sheep and runs away; and the wolf worries and scatters them. |
John 10:13 | Because he is a servant he has no interest in the sheep. | And the hireling flieth, because he is a hireling: and he hath no care for the sheep. | For he is only a hired servant and cares nothing for the sheep. |
John 10:14 | I am the good keeper; I have knowledge of my sheep, and they have knowledge of me, | I am the good shepherd; and I know mine, and mine know me. | "I am the Good Shepherd. And I know my sheep and my sheep know me, |
John 10:15 | Even as the Father has knowledge of me and I of the Father; and I am giving my life for the sheep. | As the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep. | just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I am laying down my life for the sheep. |
John 10:16 | And I have other sheep which are not of this field: I will be their guide in the same way, and they will give ear to my voice, so there will be one flock and one keeper. | And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd. | I have also other sheep which do not belong to this fold. Those also I must bring, and they will listen to my voice; and they shall become one flock under one Shepherd. |
John 10:17 | For this reason am I loved by the Father, because I give up my life so that I may take it again. | Therefore doth the Father love me: because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. | For this reason my Father loves me, because I am laying down my life in order to receive it back again. |
John 10:18 | No one takes it away from me; I give it up of myself. I have power to give it up, and I have power to take it again. These orders I have from my Father. | No man taketh it away from me: but I lay it down of myself, and I have power to lay it down: and I have power to take it up again. This commandment have I received of my Father. | No one is taking it away from me, but I myself am laying it down. I am authorized to lay it down, and I am authorized to receive it back again. This is the command I received from my Father." |
John 10:19 | There was a division again among the Jews because of these words. | A dissension rose again among the Jews for these words. | Again there arose a division among the Jews because of these words. |
John 10:20 | And a number of them said, He has an evil spirit and is out of his mind; why do you give ear to him? | And many of them said: He hath a devil, and is mad: why hear you him? | Many of them said, "He is possessed by a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to him?" |
John 10:21 | Others said, These are not the words of one who has an evil spirit. Is it possible for an evil spirit to make blind people see? | Others said: These are not the words of one that hath a devil: Can a devil open the eyes of the blind? | Others argued, "That is not the language of a demoniac: and can a demon open blind men's eyes?" |
John 10:22 | Then came the feast of the opening of the Temple in Jerusalem: it was winter; | And it was the feast of the dedication at Jerusalem: and it was winter. | The Dedication Festival came on in Jerusalem. It was winter, |
John 10:23 | And Jesus was walking in the Temple, in Solomon's covered way. | And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch. | and Jesus was walking in the Temple in Solomon's Portico, |
John 10:24 | Then the Jews came round him, saying, how long are you going to keep us in doubt? If you are the Christ, say so clearly. | The Jews therefore came round about him, and said to him: How long dost thou hold our souls in suspense? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. | when the Jews gathered round Him and kept asking Him, "How long do you mean to keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us so plainly." |
John 10:25 | Jesus said in answer, I have said it and you have no belief: the works which I do in my Father's name, these give witness about me. | Jesus answered them: I speak to you, and you believe not: the works that I do in the name of my Father, they give testimony of me. | "I have told you," answered Jesus, "and you do not believe. The deeds that I do in my Father's name they give testimony about me. |
John 10:26 | But you have no belief because you are not of my sheep. | But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep. | But you do not believe, because you are not my sheep. |
John 10:27 | My sheep give ear to my voice, and I have knowledge of them, and they come after me: | My sheep hear my voice: and I know them, and they follow me. | My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. |
John 10:28 | And I give them eternal life; they will never come to destruction, and no one will ever take them out of my hand. | And I give them life everlasting; and they shall not perish for ever, and no man shall pluck them out of my hand. | I give them the Life of the Ages, and they shall never, never perish, nor shall any one wrest them from my hand. |
John 10:29 | That which my Father has given to me has more value than all; and no one is able to take anything out of the Father's hand. | That which my Father hath given me, is greater than all: and no one can snatch them out of the hand of my Father. | What my Father has given me is more precious than all besides; and no one is able to wrest anything from my Father's hand. |
John 10:30 | I and my Father are one. | I and the Father are one. | I and the Father are one." |
John 10:31 | Then the Jews took up stones again to send at him. | The Jews then took up stones to stone him. | Again the Jews brought stones with which to stone Him. |
John 10:32 | Jesus said to them in answer, I have let you see a number of good works from the Father; for which of those works are you stoning me? | Jesus answered them: Many good works I have shewed you from my Father; for which of these works do you stone me? | Jesus remonstrated with them. "Many good deeds," He said, "have I shown you as coming from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?" |
John 10:33 | This was their answer: We are not stoning you for a good work but for evil words; because being a man you make yourself God. | The Jews answered him: For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, maketh thyself God. | "For no good deed," the Jews replied, "are we going to stone you, but for blasphemy, and because you, who are only a man, are making yourself out to be God." |
John 10:34 | In answer, Jesus said, Is there not a saying in your law, I said, You are gods? | Jesus answered them: Is it not written in your law: I said you are gods? | "Does it not stand written in your Law," replied Jesus, "`I said, you are gods'? |
John 10:35 | If he said they were gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Writings may not be broken), | If he called them gods, to whom to word of God was spoken, and the scripture cannot be broken; | If those to whom God's word was addressed are called gods (and the Scripture cannot be annulled), |
John 10:36 | Do you say of him whom the Father made holy and sent into the world, Your words are evil; because I said, I am God's Son? | Do you say of him whom the Father hath sanctified and sent into the world: Thou blasphemest, because I said, I am the Son of God? | how is it that you say to one whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, `You are blaspheming,' because I said, `I am God's Son'? |
John 10:37 | If I am not doing the works of my Father, do not have belief in me; | If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. | If the deeds I do are not my Father's deeds, do not believe me. |
John 10:38 | But if I am doing them, then have belief in the works even if you have no belief in me; so that you may see clearly and be certain that the Father is in me and I am in the Father. | But if I do, though you will not believe me, believe the works: that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father. | But if they are, then even if you do not believe me, at least believe the deeds, that you may know and see clearly that the Father is in me, and that I am in the Father." |
John 10:39 | Then again they made an attempt to take him; but he got away from them. | They sought therefore to take him; and he escaped out of their hands. | This made them once more try to arrest Him, but He withdrew out of their power. |
John 10:40 | And he went again to the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John first gave baptism; and he was there for a time. | And he went again beyond the Jordan, into that place where John was baptizing first; and there he abode. | Then He went away again to the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John had been baptizing at first; and there He stayed. |
John 10:41 | And a great number of people came to him, saying, John did no sign: but everything John said of this man was true. | And many resorted to him, and they said: John indeed did no sign. | Large numbers of people also came to Him. Their report was, "John did not work any miracle, but all that John said about this Teacher was true." |
John 10:42 | And a number came to have faith in him there. | But all things whatsoever John said of this man, were true. And many believed in him. | And many became believers in Him there. |
