Mark 2:1And when he came into Capernaum again after some days, the news went about that he was in the house.And again he entered into Capharnaum after some days.After some days He entered Capernaum again, and it soon became known that He was at home;
Mark 2:2And a great number had come together, so that there was no longer room for them, no, not even about the door: and he gave them teaching.And it was heard that he was in the house, and many came together, so that there was no room; no, not even at the door; and he spoke to them the word.and such numbers of people came together that there was no longer room for them even round the door. He was speaking His Message to them,
Mark 2:3And four men came to him with one on a bed who had no power of moving.And they came to him, bringing one sick of the palsy, who was carried by four.when there came a party of people bringing a paralytic four men carrying him.
Mark 2:4And when they were unable to get near him because of all the people, they got the roof uncovered where he was: and when it was broken up, they let down the bed on which the man was.And when they could not offer him unto him for the multitude, they uncovered the roof where he was; and opening it, they let down the bed wherein the man sick of the palsy lay.Finding themselves unable, however, to bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they untiled the roof just over His head, and after clearing an opening they lowered the mat on which the paralytic was lying.
Mark 2:5And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to him, Son, you have forgiveness for your sins.And when Jesus had seen their faith, he saith to the sick of the palsy: Son, thy sins are forgiven thee.Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, "My son, your sins are pardoned."
Mark 2:6But there were certain of the scribes seated there, and reasoning in their hearts,And there were some of the scribes sitting there, and thinking in their hearts:Now there were some of the Scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts.
Mark 2:7Why does this man say such things? he has no respect for God: from whom does forgiveness come but from God only?Why doth this man speak thus? he blasphemeth. Who can forgive sins, but God only?"Why does this man use such words?" they said; "he is blaspheming. Who can pardon sins but One that is, God?"
Mark 2:8And Jesus, having knowledge in his spirit of their thoughts, said to them, Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?Which Jesus presently knowing in his spirit, that they so thought within themselves, saith to them: Why think you these things in your hearts?At once perceiving by His spirit that they were reasoning within themselves, Jesus asked them, "Why do you thus argue in your minds?
Mark 2:9Which is the simpler, to say to a man who is ill, You have forgiveness for your sins, or, Get up, take up your bed, and go?Which is easier, to say to the sick of the palsy: Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say: Arise, take up thy bed, and walk?Which is easier? to say to this paralytic, `Your sins are pardoned,' or to say, `Rise, take up your mat, and walk?'
Mark 2:10But so that you may see that the Son of man has authority for the forgiveness of sins on earth, (he said to the man,)But that you may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to pardon sins" He turned to the paralytic, and said,
Mark 2:11I say to you, Get up, take up your bed, and go to your house.I say to thee: Arise, take up thy bed, and go into thy house."To you I say, `Rise, take up your mat and go home.'"
Mark 2:12And he got up, and straight away took up the bed and went out before them all, so that they were all full of wonder, and gave glory to God, saying, We have never seen anything like this.And immediately he arose; and taking up his bed, went his way in the sight of all; so that all wondered and glorified God, saying: We never saw the like.The man rose, and immediately under the eyes of all took up his mat and went out, so that they were all filled with astonishment, gave the glory to God, and said, "We never saw anything like this."
Mark 2:13And he went out again by the seaside; and all the people came to him, and he gave them teaching.And he went forth again to the sea side; and all the multitude came to him, and he taught them.Again He went out to the shore of the Lake, and the whole multitude kept coming to Him, and He taught them.
Mark 2:14And when he went by, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, seated at the place where taxes were taken, and he said to him, Come with me. And he got up, and went with him.And when he was passing by, he saw Levi the son of Alpheus sitting at the receipt of custom; and he saith to him: Follow me. And rising up, he followed him.And as He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the Toll Office, and said to him, "Follow me." So he rose and followed Him.
Mark 2:15And it came about that he was seated at meat in his house, and a number of tax-farmers and sinners were at table with Jesus and his disciples: for there were a great number of them, and they came after him.And it came to pass, that as he sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat down together with Jesus and his disciples. For they were many, who also followed him.When He was sitting at table in Levi's house, a large number of tax-gatherers and notorious sinners were at table with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many such who habitually followed Him.
Mark 2:16And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was taking food with the tax-farmers and sinners, said to his disciples, Why does he take food and drink with such men?And the scribes and the Pharisees, seeing that he ate with publicans and sinners, said to his disiples: Why doth your master eat and drink with publicans and sinners?But when the Scribes of the Pharisee sect saw Him eating with the sinners and the tax-gatherers, they said to His disciples, "He is eating and drinking with the tax-gatherers and sinners!"
Mark 2:17And Jesus, hearing it, said to them, Those who are well have no need of a medical man, but those who are ill: I have come not to get the upright but sinners.Jesus hearing this, saith to them: They that are well have no need of a physician, but they that are sick. For I came not to call the just, but sinners.Jesus heard the words, and He said, "It is not the healthy who require a doctor, but the sick: I did not come to appeal to the righteous, but to sinners."
Mark 2:18And John's disciples and the Pharisees were taking no food: and they came and said to him, Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees go without food, but your disciples do not?And the disiples of John and the Pharisees used to fast; and they come and say to him: Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast; but thy disciples do not fast?(Now John's disciples and those of the Pharisees were keeping a fast.) And they came and asked Him, "How is it that John's disciples and those of the Pharisees are fasting, and yours are not?"
Mark 2:19And Jesus said to them, Will the friends of a newly-married man go without food while he is with them? as long as they have him with them they will not go without food.And Jesus saith to them: Can the children of the marriage fast, as long as the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast."Can a wedding party fast while the bridegroom is among them?" replied Jesus. "So long as they have the bridegroom with them, fasting is impossible.
Mark 2:20But the days will come when the husband will be taken away from them, and then they will go without food.But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them; and then they shall fast in those days.But a time will come when the Bridegroom will be taken away from them; then they will fast.
Mark 2:21No man puts a bit of new cloth on an old coat: or the new, by pulling away from the old, makes a worse hole.No man seweth a piece of raw cloth to an old garment: otherwise the new piecing taketh away from the old, and there is made a greater rent.No one mends an old garment with a piece of unshrunk cloth. Otherwise, the patch put on would tear away from it the new from the old and a worse hole would be made.
Mark 2:22And no man puts new wine into old wine-skins: or the skins will be burst by the wine, and the wine and the skins will be wasted: but new wine has to be put into new wine-skins.And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: otherwise the wine will burst the bottles, and both the wine will be spilled, and the bottles will be lost. But new wine must be put into new bottles.And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise the wine would burst the skins, and both wine and skins would be lost. New wine needs fresh skins!"
Mark 2:23And it came about that on the Sabbath day he was going through the grain-fields; and while they were walking, his disciples took the heads of grain.And it came to pass again, as the Lord walked through the corn fields on the sabbath, that his disciples began to go forward, and to pluck the ears of corn.One Sabbath He was walking through the wheatfields when His disciples began to pluck the ears of wheat as they went.
Mark 2:24And the Pharisees said to him, Why are they doing what it is not right to do on the Sabbath?And the Pharisees said to him: Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?So the Pharisees said to Him, "Look! why are they doing what on the Sabbath is unlawful?"
Mark 2:25And he said to them, Have you no knowledge of what David did, when he had need and was without food, he, and those who were with him?And he said to them: Have you never read what David did when he had need, and was hungry himself, and they that were with him?"Have you never read," Jesus replied, "what David did when the necessity arose and he and his men were hungry:
Mark 2:26How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, and took for food the holy bread, which only the priests may take, and gave it to those who were with him?How he went into the house of God, under Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the loaves of proposition, which was not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave to them who were with him?how he entered the house of God in the High-priesthood of Abiathar, and ate the Presented Loaves which none but the priests are allowed to eat and gave some to his men also?"
Mark 2:27And he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath;And he said to them: The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.And Jesus said to them: "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath;
Mark 2:28So that the Son of man is lord even of the Sabbath.Therefore the Son of man is Lord of the sabbath also.so that the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
