Matthew 8:1And when he had come down from the mountain, great numbers of people came after him.And when he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him:Upon descending from the hill country He was followed by immense crowds.
Matthew 8:2And a leper came and gave him worship, saying, Lord, if it is your pleasure, you have power to make me clean.And behold a leper came and adored him, saying: Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.And a leper came to Him, and throwing himself at His feet, said, "Sir, if only you are willing you are able to cleanse me."
Matthew 8:3And he put his hand on him, saying, It is my pleasure; be clean. And straight away he was made clean.And Jesus stretching forth his hand, touched him, saying: I will, be thou made clean. And forthwith his leprosy was cleansed.So Jesus put out His hand and touched him, and said, "I am willing: be cleansed." Instantly he was cleansed from his leprosy;
Matthew 8:4And Jesus said to him, See that you say nothing about this to anyone; but go and let the priest see you and make the offering which was ordered by Moses, for a witness to them.And Jesus saith to him: See thou tell no man: but go, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses commanded for a testimony unto them.and Jesus said to him, "Be careful to tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses appointed as evidence for them."
Matthew 8:5And when Jesus was come into Capernaum, a certain captain came to him with a request,And when he had entered into Capharnaum, there came to him a centurion, beseeching him,After His entry into Capernaum a Captain came to Him, and entreated Him.
Matthew 8:6Saying, Lord, my servant is ill in bed at the house, with no power in his body, and in great pain.And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, and is grieviously tormented."Sir," he said, "my servant at home is lying ill with paralysis, and is suffering great pain."
Matthew 8:7And he said to him, I will come and make him well.And Jesus saith to him: I will come and heal him."I will come and cure him," said Jesus.
Matthew 8:8And the captain in answer said, Lord, I am not good enough for you to come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be made well.And the centurion making answer, said: Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof: but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed."Sir," replied the Captain, "I am not a fit person to receive you under my roof: merely say the word, and my servant will be cured.
Matthew 8:9Because I myself am a man under authority, having under me fighting men; and I say to this one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.For I also am a man subject to authority, having under me soldiers; and I say to this, Go, and he goeth, and to another, Come, and he cometh, and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.For I myself am also under authority, and have soldiers under me. To one I say `Go,' and he goes, to another `Come,' and he comes, and to my slave `Do this or that,' and he does it."
Matthew 8:10And when these words came to the ears of Jesus he was surprised, and said to those who came after him, Truly I say to you, I have not seen such great faith, no, not in Israel.And Jesus hearing this, marvelled; and said to them that followed him: Amen I say to you, I have not found so great faith in Israel.Jesus listened to this reply, and was astonished, and said to the people following Him, "I solemnly tell you that in no Israelite have I found faith as great as this.
Matthew 8:11And I say to you that numbers will come from the east and the west, and will take their seats with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven:And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven:And I tell you that many will come from the east and from the west and will recline at table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Kingdom of the Heavens,
Matthew 8:12But the sons of the kingdom will be put out into the dark, and there will be weeping and cries of pain.But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.while the natural heirs of the Kingdom will be driven out into the darkness outside: there will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth."
Matthew 8:13And Jesus said to the captain, Go in peace; as your faith is, so let it be done to you. And the servant was made well in that hour.And Jesus said to the centurion: Go, and as thou hast believed, so be it done to thee. And the servant was healed at the same hour.And Jesus said to the Captain, "Go, and just as you have believed, so be it for you." And the servant recovered precisely at that time.
Matthew 8:14And when Jesus had come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother in bed, very ill.And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother lying, and sick of a fever:After this Jesus went to the house of Peter, whose mother-in-law he found ill in bed with fever.
Matthew 8:15And he put his hand on hers and the disease went from her, and she got up and took care of his needs.And he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she arose and ministered to them.He touched her hand and the fever left her: and then she rose and waited upon Him.
Matthew 8:16And in the evening, they took to him a number of people who had evil spirits; and he sent the spirits out of them with a word, and made well all who were ill;And when evening was come, they brought to him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word: and all that were sick he healed:In the evening many demoniacs were brought to Him, and with a word He expelled the demons; and He cured all the sick,
Matthew 8:17So that the word of Isaiah the prophet might come true: He himself took our pains and our diseases.That it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the prophet Isaias, saying: He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases.in order that this prediction of the Prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled, "He took on Him our weaknesses, and bore the burden of our diseases."
Matthew 8:18Now when Jesus saw a great mass of people about him, he gave an order to go to the other side.And Jesus seeing great multitudes about him, gave orders to pass over the water.Seeing great crowds about Him Jesus had given directions to cross to the other side of the Lake,
Matthew 8:19And there came a scribe and said to him, Master, I will come after you wherever you go.And a certain scribe came and said to him: Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou shalt go.when a Scribe came and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
Matthew 8:20And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of heaven have a resting-place; but the Son of man has nowhere to put his head.And Jesus saith to him: The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air nests: but the son of man hath not where to lay his head."Foxes have holes," replied Jesus, "and birds have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."
Matthew 8:21And another of the disciples said to him, Lord, let me first go and give the last honours to my father.And another of his disciples said to him: Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.Another of the disciples said to Him, "Sir, allow me first to go and bury my father."
Matthew 8:22But Jesus said to him, Come after me; and let the dead take care of their dead.But Jesus said to him: Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead."Follow me," said Jesus, "and leave the dead to bury their own dead."
Matthew 8:23And when he had got into a boat, his disciples went after him.And when he entered into the boat, his disciples followed him:Then He went on board a fishing-boat, and His disciples followed Him.
Matthew 8:24And there came up a great storm in the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was sleeping.And behold a great tempest arose in the sea, so that the boat was covered with waves, but he was asleep.But suddenly there arose a great storm on the Lake, so that the waves threatened to engulf the boat; but He was asleep.
Matthew 8:25And they came to him, and, awaking him, said, Help, Lord; destruction is near.And they came to him, and awaked him, saying: Lord, save us, we perish.So they came and woke Him, crying, "Master, save us, we are drowning!"
Matthew 8:26And he said to them, Why are you full of fear, O you of little faith? Then he got up and gave orders to the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.And Jesus saith to them: Why are you fearful, O ye of little faith? Then rising up he commanded the winds, and the sea, and there came a great calm."Why are you so easily frightened," He replied, "you men of little faith?" Then He rose and reproved the winds and the waves, and there was a perfect calm;
Matthew 8:27And the men were full of wonder, saying, What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea do his orders?But the men wondered, saying: What manner of man is this, for the winds and the sea obey him?and the men, filled with amazement, exclaimed, "What kind of man is this? for the very winds and waves obey him!"
Matthew 8:28And when he had come to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, there came out to him from the place of the dead, two who had evil spirits, so violent that no man was able to go that way.And when he was come on the other side of the water, into the country of the Gerasens, there met him two that were possessed with devils, coming out of the sepulchres, exceeding fierce, so that none could pass by that way.On His arrival at the other side, in the country of the Gadarenes, there met Him two men possessed by demons, coming from among the tombs: they were so dangerously fierce that no one was able to pass that way.
Matthew 8:29And they gave a loud cry, saying, What have we to do with you, you Son of God? Have you come here to give us punishment before the time?And behold they cried out, saying: What have we to do with thee, Jesus Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?They cried aloud, "What hast Thou to do with us, Thou Son of God? Hast Thou come here to torment us before the time?"
Matthew 8:30Now there was, some distance away, a great herd of pigs taking their food.And there was, not far from them, an herd of many swine feeding.Now at some distance from them a vast herd of swine were feeding.
Matthew 8:31And the evil spirits made strong prayers to him, saying, If you send us out, let us go into the herd of pigs.And the devils besought him, saying: If thou cast us out hence, send us into the herd of swine.So the demons entreated Him. "If Thou drivest us out," they said, "send us into the herd of swine."
Matthew 8:32And he said to them, Go. And they came out, and went into the pigs; and the herd went rushing down a sharp slope into the sea and came to their end in the water.And he said to them: Go. But they going out went into the swine, and behold the whole herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea: and they perished in the waters."Go," He replied. Then they came out from the men and went into the swine, whereupon the entire herd instantly rushed down the cliff into the Lake and perished in the water.
Matthew 8:33And their keepers went in flight to the town and gave an account of everything, and of the men who had the evil spirits.And they that kept them fled: and coming into the city, told every thing, and concerning them that had been possessed by the devils.The swineherds fled, and went and told the whole story in the town, including what had happened to the demoniacs.
Matthew 8:34And all the town came out to Jesus; and seeing him they made request that he would go away from their part of the country.And behold the whole city went out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart from their coasts.So at once the whole population came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they besought Him to leave their country.
