John 9:1And when he went on his way, he saw a man blind from birth. And Jesus passing by, saw a man, who was blind from his birth:As he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.
John 9:2And his disciples put a question to him, saying, Master, was it because of this man's sin, or the sin of his father and mother, that he has been blind from birth? And his disciples asked him: Rabbi, who hath sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind? His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
John 9:3Jesus said in answer, It was not because of his sin, or because of his father's or mother's; it was so that the works of God might be seen openly in him.Jesus answered: Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.Jesus answered, "Neither did this man sin, nor his parents. But, that the works of God might be revealed in him,
John 9:4While it is day we have to do the works of him who sent me: the night comes when no work may be done.I must work the works of him that sent me, whilst it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.
John 9:5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
John 9:6Having said these words, he put earth, mixed with water from his mouth, on the man's eyes,When he had said these things, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and spread the clay on his eyes,When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man's eyes with the mud,
John 9:7And said to him, Go and make yourself clean in the bath of Siloam (the sense of the name is, Sent). So he went away and, after washing, came back able to see.And said to him: Go, wash in the pool of Siloe, which is interpreted, Sent. He went therefore, and washed, and he came seeing.and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means "Sent"). So he went away, washed, and came seeing.
John 9:8Then the neighbours and others who had seen him before in the street, with his hand out for money, said, Is not this the man who got money from people? The neighbours therefore, and they who had seen him before that he was a beggar, said: Is not this he that sat and begged? Some said: This is he.The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was blind, before, said, "Isn't this he who sat and begged?"
John 9:9Some said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.But others said: No, but he is like him. But he said: I am he.Others said, "It is he." Still others said, "He is like him." He said, "I am he."
John 9:10So they said to him, How then were your eyes made open? They said therefore to him: How were thy eyes opened? They said therefore to him, "How were your eyes opened?"
John 9:11His answer was: The man who is named Jesus put earth mixed with water on my eyes, and said to me, Go and make yourself clean in Siloam: so I went away and, after washing, am now able to see.He answered: That man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me: Go to the pool of Siloe, and wash. And I went, I washed, and I see.He answered, "A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, "Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash." So I went away and washed, and I received sight."
John 9:12And they said to him, Where is he? His answer was: I have no knowledge. And they said to him: Where is he? He saith: I know not. Then they asked him, "Where is he?" He said, "I don't know."
John 9:13They took him before the Pharisees this man who had been blind. They bring him that had been blind to the Pharisees. They brought him who before was blind to the Pharisees.
John 9:14Now the day on which the earth was mixed by Jesus and the man's eyes were made open was the Sabbath. Now it was the sabbath, when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.
John 9:15So the Pharisees put more questions to him about how his eyes had been made open. And he said to them, He put earth on my eyes, and I had a wash and am able to see.Again therefore the Pharisees asked him, how he had received his sight. But he said to them: He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and I see.Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see."
John 9:16Then some of the Pharisees said, That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath. Others said, How is it possible for a sinner to do such signs? So there was a division among them. Some therefore of the Pharisees said: This man is not of God, who keepeth not the sabbath. But others said: How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. Some therefore of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, because he doesn't keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" There was division among them.
John 9:17Again they said to the blind man, What have you to say about him for opening your eyes? And he said, He is a prophet. They say therefore to the blind man again: What sayest thou of him that hath opened they eyes? And he said: He is a prophet. Therefore they asked the blind man again, "What do you say about him, in that he opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."
John 9:18Now the Jews had no belief in the statement that he had been blind and was now able to see, till they sent for the father and mother of the man whose eyes had been made open,The Jews then did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,
John 9:19And put the question to them, saying, Is this your son, of whom you say that he was blind at birth? how is it then that he is now able to see?And asked them, saying: Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then doth he now see?and asked them, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?"
John 9:20In answer his father and mother said, We are certain that this is our son and that he was blind at birth:His parents answered them, and said: We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:His parents answered them, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
John 9:21But how it is he is now able to see, or who made his eyes open, we are not able to say: put the question to him; he is old enough to give an answer for himself. But how he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: ask himself: he is of age, let him speak for himself.but how he now sees, we don't know; or who opened his eyes, we don't know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself."
John 9:22They said this because of their fear of the Jews: for the Jews had come to an agreement that if any man said that Jesus was the Christ he would be put out of the Synagogue. These things his parents said, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had already agreed among themselves, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.
John 9:23That was the reason why they said, He is old enough; put the question to him. Therefore did his parents say: He is of age, ask himself. Therefore his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him."
John 9:24So they sent a second time for the man who had been blind and they said to him, Give glory to God: it is clear to us that this man is a sinner. They therefore called the man again that had been blind, and said to him: Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner. So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner."
John 9:25He said in answer, I have no knowledge if he is a sinner or not, but one thing I am certain about; I was blind, and now I see.He said therefore to them: If he be a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see.He therefore answered, "I don't know if he is a sinner. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see."
John 9:26Then they said to him, What did he do to you? how did he give you the use of your eyes? They said then to him: What did he to thee? How did he open thy eyes? They said to him again, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"
John 9:27His answer was: I have said it before, but your ears were shut: why would you have me say it again? is it your desire to become his disciples? He answered them: I have told you already, and you have heard: why would you hear it again? will you also become his disciples? He answered them, "I told you already, and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?"
John 9:28And they were angry with him and said, You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. They reviled him therefore, and said: Be thou his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. They became abusive towards him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
John 9:29We are certain that God gave his word to Moses: but as for this man, we have no knowledge where he comes from.We know that God spoke to Moses: but as to this man, we know not from whence he is.We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don't know where he comes from."
John 9:30The man said in answer, Why, here is a strange thing! You have no knowledge where he comes from though he gave me the use of my eyes. The man answered, and said to them: Why, herein is a wonderful thing, that you know not from whence he is, and he hath opened my eyes. The man answered them, "How amazing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.
John 9:31We have knowledge that God does not give ear to sinners, but if any man is a worshipper of God and does his pleasure, to him God's ears are open. Now we know that God doth not hear sinners: but if a man be a server of God, and doth his will, him he heareth. We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.
John 9:32In all the years nobody has ever before seen the eyes of a man blind from birth made open. From the beginning of the world it hath not been heard, that any man hath opened the eyes of one born blind.Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.
John 9:33If this man did not come from God he would be unable to do anything.Unless this man were of God, he could not do any thing. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."
John 9:34Their answer was: You came to birth through sin; do you make yourself our teacher? And they put him out of the Synagogue. They answered, and said to him: Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" They threw him out.
John 9:35It came to the ears of Jesus that they had put him out, and meeting him he said, Have you faith in the Son of man?Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said to him: Dost thou believe in the Son of God?Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"
John 9:36He said in answer, And who is he, Lord? Say, so that I may have faith in him.He answered, and said: Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?He answered, "Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?"
John 9:37Jesus said to him, You have seen him; it is he who is talking to you.And Jesus said to him: Thou hast both seen him; and it is he that talketh with thee.Jesus said to him, "You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you."
John 9:38And he said, Lord, I have faith. And he gave him worship. And he said: I believe, Lord. And falling down, he adored him.He said, "Lord, I believe!" and he worshipped him.
John 9:39And Jesus said, I came into this world to be a judge, so that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind. And Jesus said: For judgment I am come into this world; that they who see not, may see; and they who see, may become blind.Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, that those who don't see may see; and that those who see may become blind."
John 9:40These words came to the ears of the Pharisees who were with him and they said to him, Are we, then, blind? And some of the Pharisees, who were with him, heard: and they said unto him: Are we also blind? Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?"
John 9:41Jesus said to them, If you were blind you would have no sin: but now that you say, We see; your sin is there still.Jesus said to them: If you were blind, you should not have sin: but now you say: We see. Your sin remaineth.Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains.
