Zephaniah 3:1 | Sorrow to her who is uncontrolled and unclean, the cruel town! | Woe to the provoking, and redeemed city, the dove. | Wo [to] the rebellious and polluted, The oppressing city! |
Zephaniah 3:2 | She gave no attention to the voice, she had no use for teaching, she put no faith in the Lord, she did not come near to her God. | She hath not hearkened to the voice, neither hath she received discipline: she hath not trusted in the Lord, she drew not near to her God. | She hath not hearkened to the voice, She hath not accepted instruction, In Jehovah she hath not trusted, Unto her God she hath not drawn near. |
Zephaniah 3:3 | Her rulers are like loud-voiced lions in her; her judges are wolves of the evening, crushing up the bones before the morning. | Her princes are in the midst of her as roaring lions: her judges are evening wolves, they left nothing for the morning. | Her heads in her midst [are] roaring lions, Her judges [are] evening wolves, They have not gnawn the bone in the morning. |
Zephaniah 3:4 | Her prophets are good-for-nothing persons, full of deceit: her priests have made the holy place unclean and have gone violently against the law. | Her prophets are senseless men without faith: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have acted unjustly against the law. | Her prophets unstable men of treachery, Her priests have polluted the sanctuary, They have violated the law. |
Zephaniah 3:5 | The Lord in her is upright; he will not do evil; every morning he lets his righteousness be seen, he is unchanging; but the evil-doer has no sense of shame. | The just Lord is in the midst thereof, he will not do iniquity: in the morning, in the morning he will bring his judgment to light, and it shall not be hid: but the wicked man hath not known shame. | Jehovah [is] righteous in her midst, He doth not do perverseness, Morning by morning His judgment he giveth to the light, It hath not been lacking, And the perverse doth not know shame. |
Zephaniah 3:6 | I have had the nations cut off, their towers are broken down; I have made their streets a waste so that no one goes through them: destruction has overtaken their towns, so that there is no man living in them. | I have destroyed the nations, and their towers are beaten down: I have made their ways desert, so that there is none that passeth by: their cities are desolate, there is not a man remaining, nor any inhabitant. | I have cut off nations, Desolated have been their chief ones, I have laid waste their out-places without any passing by, Destroyed have been their cities, Without man, without inhabitant. |
Zephaniah 3:7 | I said, Certainly you will go in fear of me, and come under my training, so that whatever I may send on her may not be cut off before her eyes: but they got up early and made all their works evil. | I said: Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive correction: and her dwelling shall not perish, for all things wherein I have visited her: but they rose early and corrupted all their thoughts. | I have said: Only, ye do fear Me, Ye do accept instruction, And her habitation is not cut off, All that I have appointed for her, But they have risen early, They have corrupted all their doings. |
Zephaniah 3:8 | For this reason, go on waiting for me, says the Lord, till the day when I come up as a witness: for my purpose is to send for the nations and to get the kingdoms together, so that I may let loose on them my passion, even all my burning wrath: for all the earth will be burned up in the fire of my bitter passion. | Wherefore expect me, saith the Lord, in the day of my resurrection that is to come, for my judgment is to assemble the Gentiles, and to gather the kingdoms: and to pour upon them my indignation, all my fierce anger: for with the fire of my jealousy shall all the earth be devoured. | Therefore, wait for Me an affirmation of Jehovah, For the day of My rising for prey, For My judgment [is] to gather nations, To assemble kingdoms, To pour out on them Mine indignation, All the heat of Mine anger, For by the fire of My jealousy consumed is all the earth. |
Zephaniah 3:9 | For then I will give the people a clean language, so that they may all make prayer to the Lord and be his servants with one mind. | Because then I will restore to the people a chosen lip, that all may call upon the name of the Lord, and may serve him with one shoulder. | For then do I turn unto peoples a pure lip, To call all of them by the name of Jehovah, To serve Him [with] one shoulder. |
Zephaniah 3:10 | From over the rivers of Ethiopia, and from the sides of the north, they will come to me with an offering. | From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, shall my suppliants the children of my dispersed people bring me an offering. | From beyond the rivers of Cush, my supplicants, The daughter of My scattered ones, Do bring My present. |
Zephaniah 3:11 | In that day you will have no shame on account of all the things in which you did evil against me: for then I will take away from among you those who were lifted up in pride, and you will no longer be lifted up with pride in my holy mountain. | In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee thy proud boasters, and thou shalt no more be lifted up because of my holy mountain. | In that day thou art not ashamed because of any of thine actions, Wherewith thou hast transgressed against Me, For then do I turn aside from thy midst The exulting ones of thine excellency, And thou dost add no more to be haughty, In My holy mountain. |
Zephaniah 3:12 | But I will still have among you a quiet and poor people, and they will put their faith in the name of the Lord. | And I will leave in the midst of thee a poor and needy people: and they shall hope in the name of the Lord. | And I have left in thy midst a people humble and poor, And they have trusted in the name of Jehovah. |
Zephaniah 3:13 | The rest of Israel will do no evil and say no false words; the tongue of deceit will not be seen in their mouth: for they will take their food and their rest, and no one will be a cause of fear to them. | The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies, nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed, and shall lie down, and there shall be none to make them afraid. | The remnant of Israel do no perversity, nor speak lies, Nor found in their mouth is a deceitful tongue, For they have delight, and have lain down, And there is none troubling. |
Zephaniah 3:14 | Make melody, O daughter of Zion; give a loud cry, O Israel; be glad and let your heart be full of joy, O daughter of Jerusalem. | Give praise, O daughter of Sion: shout, O Israel: be glad, and rejoice with all thy heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. | Cry aloud, O daughter of Zion, shout, O Israel, Rejoice and exult with the whole heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. |
Zephaniah 3:15 | The Lord has taken away those who were judging you, he has sent your haters far away: the King of Israel, even the Lord, is among you: you will have no more fear of evil. | The Lord hath taken away thy judgment, he hath turned away thy enemies: the king of Israel the Lord is in the midst of thee, thou shalt fear evil no more. | Jehovah hath turned aside thy judgments, He hath faced thine enemy, The king of Israel, Jehovah, [is] in thy midst, Thou seest evil no more. |
Zephaniah 3:16 | In that day it will be said to Jerusalem, Have no fear: O Zion, let not your hands be feeble. | In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not: to Sion: Let not thy hands be weakened. | In that day it is said to Jerusalem, `Fear not, O Zion, let not thy hands be feeble. |
Zephaniah 3:17 | The Lord your God is among you, as a strong saviour: he will be glad over you with joy, he will make his love new again, he will make a song of joy over you as in the time of a holy feast. | The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty, he will save: he will rejoice over thee with gladness, he will be silent in his love, he will be joyful over thee in praise. | Jehovah thy God [is] in thy midst, A mighty one doth save, He rejoiceth over thee with joy, He doth work in His love, He joyeth over thee with singing.` |
Zephaniah 3:18 | I will take away your troubles, lifting up your shame from off you. | The triflers that were departed from the law, I will gather together, because they were of thee: that thou mayest no more suffer reproach for them. | Mine afflicted from the appointed place I have gathered, from thee they have been, Bearing for her sake reproach. |
Zephaniah 3:19 | See, at that time I will put an end to all who have been troubling you: I will give salvation to her whose steps are uncertain, and get together her who has been sent in flight; and I will make them a cause of praise and an honoured name in all the earth, when I let their fate be changed. | Behold I will cut off all that have afflicted thee at that time: and I will save her that halteth, and will gather her that was cast out: and I will get them praise, and a name, in all the land where they had been put to confusion. | Lo, I am dealing with all afflicting thee at that time, And I have saved the halting one, And the driven out ones I do gather, And have set them for a praise and for a name, In all the land of their shame. |
Zephaniah 3:20 | At that time I will make you come in, at that time I will get you together: for I will make you a name and a praise among all the peoples of the earth when I let your fate be changed before your eyes, says the Lord. | At that time, when I will bring you: and at the time that I will gather you: for I will give you a name, and praise among all the people of the earth, when I shall have brought back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord. | At that time I bring you in, Even at the time of My assembling you, For I give you for a name, and for a praise, Among all peoples of the land, In My turning back [to] your captivity before your eyes, said Jehovah! |
