Luke 24:1But on the first day of the week, at dawn, they came to the place where his body had been put, taking the spices which they had got ready.Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. Luke 24:2And they saw that the stone had been rolled away.And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they found the stone rolled back from the sepulchre.
Luke 24:3And they went in, but the body of the Lord Jesus was not there.And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And going in, they found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
Luke 24:4And while they were in doubt about it, they saw two men in shining clothing by them:And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And it came to pass, as they were astonished in their mind at this, behold, two men stood by them, in shining apparel.
Luke 24:5And while their faces were bent down to the earth in fear, these said to them, Why are you looking for the living among the dead?And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? And as they were afraid, and bowed down their countenance towards the ground, they said unto them: Why seek you the living with the dead?
Luke 24:6He is not here, he has come back to life: have in mind what he said to you when he was still in Galilee, saying,He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he spoke unto you, when he was in Galilee,
Luke 24:7The Son of man will be given up into the hands of evil-doers, and be put to death on the cross, and on the third day he will come back to life.Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. Saying: The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
Luke 24:8And his words came back into their minds,And they remembered his words, And they remembered his words.
Luke 24:9And they went away from that place and gave an account of all these things to the eleven disciples and all the others.And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. And going back from the sepulchre, they told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.
Luke 24:10Now they were Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary, the mother of James: and the other women with them said these things to the Apostles.It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. And it was Mary Magdalen, and Joanna, and Mary of James, and the other women that were with them, who told these things to the apostles.
Luke 24:11But these words seemed foolish to them, and they had no belief in them.And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. And these words seemed to them as idle tales; and they did not believe them.
Luke 24:12But Peter got up and went to the place where the body had been put, and looking in he saw nothing but the linen cloths, and he went to his house full of wonder at what had taken place.Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. But Peter rising up, ran to the sepulchre, and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths laid by themselves; and went away wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
Luke 24:13And then, two of them, on that very day, were going to a little town named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. And behold, two of them went, the same day, to a town which was sixty furlongs from Jerusalem, named Emmaus.
Luke 24:14And they were talking together about all those things which had taken place.And they talked together of all these things which had happened. And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
Luke 24:15And while they were talking and questioning together, Jesus himself came near and went with them.And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. And it came to pass, that while they talked and reasoned with themselves, Jesus himself also drawing near, went with them.
Luke 24:16But their eyes were not open that they might have knowledge of him.But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. But their eyes were held, that they should not know him.
Luke 24:17And he said to them, What are you talking about together while you go?And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? And he said to them: What are these discourses that you hold one with another as you walk, and are sad?
Luke 24:18Then stopping, and looking sadly at him, one of them, named Cleopas, said to him, Are you the only man living in Jerusalem who has not had news of the things which have taken place there at this time?And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? And the one of them, whose name was Cleophas, answering, said to him: Art thou only a stranger to Jerusalem, and hast not known the things that have been done there in these days?
Luke 24:19And he said to them, What things? And they said, The things to do with Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, great in his acts and his words, before God and all the people:And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: To whom he said: What things? And they said: Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, mighty in work and word before God and all the people;
Luke 24:20And how the chief priests and our rulers gave him up to be put to death on the cross.And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. And how our chief priests and princes delivered him to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
Luke 24:21But we were hoping that he would be the Saviour of Israel. In addition to all this he has now let three days go by from the time when these things took place;But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. But we hoped, that it was he that should have redeemed Israel: and now besides all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
Luke 24:22And certain women among us gave us cause for wonder, for they went early to the place where his body had been put,Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; Yea and certain women also of our company affrighted us, who before it was light, were at the sepulchre,
Luke 24:23And it was not there; then they came saying that they had seen a vision of angels who said that he was living.And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. And not finding his body, came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who say that he is alive.
Luke 24:24And some of those who were with us went to the place, and saw that it was as the women had said, but him they did not see.And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. And some of our people went to the sepulchre, and found it so as the women had said, but him they found not.
Luke 24:25And he said, O foolish men! how slow you are to give belief to what the prophets have said.Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Then he said to them: O foolish, and slow of heart to believe in all things which the prophets have spoken.
Luke 24:26Was it not necessary for the Christ to go through these things, and to come into his glory?Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and so to enter into his glory?
Luke 24:27And he made clear to them all the things in the Writings, from Moses and from all the prophets, which had to do with himself.And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures, the things that were concerning him.
Luke 24:28And they came near the town to which they were going, and he seemed as if he was going on;And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. And they drew night to the town, whither they were going: and he made as though he would go farther.
Luke 24:29But they kept him back, saying, Do not go, for evening is near, the day is almost gone. And he went in with them.But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. But they constrained him; saying: Stay with us, because it is towards evening, and the day is now far spent. And he went in with them.
Luke 24:30And when he was seated with them at table, he took the bread, and said words of blessing and, making division of it, he gave it to them.And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And it came to pass, whilst he was at table with them, he took bread, and blessed, and brake, and gave to them.
Luke 24:31And then their eyes were open, and they had knowledge of him, but he went from their view.And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him: and he vanished out of their sight.
Luke 24:32And they said to one another, Were not our hearts burning in us while he was talking to us on the way, making clear to us the holy Writings?And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? And they said one to the other: Was not our heart burning within us, whilst he spoke in this way, and opened to us the scriptures?
Luke 24:33And that very hour they got up and went back to Jerusalem, where the eleven and the others had come together.And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, And rising up, the same hour, they went back to Jerusalem: and they found the eleven gathered together, and those that were staying with them,
Luke 24:34And they said to them, The Lord has truly come back to life again, and Simon has seen him.Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. Saying: The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
Luke 24:35And they gave an account of the things which had taken place on the way, and how, when he gave them bread, they had knowledge of him.And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. And they told what things were done in the way; and how they knew him in the breaking of the bread.
Luke 24:36And while they were saying these things, he himself was among them, and said to them, Peace be with you!And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. Now whilst they were speaking these things, Jesus stood in the midst of them, and saith to them: Peace be to you; it is I, fear not.
Luke 24:37But they were full of fear, being of the opinion that they were seeing a spirit.But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. But they being troubled and frightened, supposed that they saw a spirit.
Luke 24:38And he said to them, Why are you troubled, and why are your hearts full of doubt?And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? And he said to them: Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
Luke 24:39See; my hands and my feet: it is I myself; put your hands on me and make certain; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. See my hands and feet, that it is I myself; handle, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me to have.
Luke 24:40And when he had said this, he let them see his hands and his feet.And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and feet.
Luke 24:41And because, for joy and wonder, they were still in doubt, he said to them, Have you any food here?And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? But while they yet believed not, and wondered for joy, he said: Have you any thing to eat?
Luke 24:42And they gave him a bit of cooked fish.And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And they offered him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honeycomb.
Luke 24:43And before their eyes he took a meal.And he took it, and did eat before them. And when he had eaten before them, taking the remains, he gave to them.
Luke 24:44And he said to them, These are the words which I said to you when I was still with you, how it was necessary for all the things which are in the writings of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms about me, to be put into effect.And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luke 24:45Then he made the holy Writings clear to their minds.Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.
Luke 24:46And he said to them, So it is in the Writings that the Christ would undergo death, and come back to life again on the third day;And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead, the third day:
Luke 24:47And that teaching about a change of heart and forgiveness of sins is to be given to Jerusalem first and to all nations in his name.And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luke 24:48You are witnesses of these things.And ye are witnesses of these things. And you are witnesses of these things.
Luke 24:49And now I will send to you what my father has undertaken to give you, but do not go from the town, till the power from heaven comes to you.And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. And I send the promise of my Father upon you: but stay you in the city till you be endued with power from on high.
Luke 24:50And he took them out till they were near Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he gave them a blessing.And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And he led them out as far as Bethania: and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.
Luke 24:51And while he was doing so, he went from them and was taken up into heaven.And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And it came to pass, whilst he blessed them, he departed from them, and was carried up to heaven.
Luke 24:52And they gave him worship and went back to Jerusalem with great joy.And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: And they adoring went back into Jerusalem with great joy.
Luke 24:53And they were in the Temple at all times, giving praise to God.And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. And they were always in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
