1st-Peter 4:1So that as Jesus was put to death in the flesh, do you yourselves be of the same mind; for the death of the flesh puts an end to sin;Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; Since, then, Christ has suffered in the flesh, you also must arm yourselves with a determination to do the same because he who has suffered in the flesh has done with sin
1st-Peter 4:2So that you may give the rest of your lives in the flesh, not to the desires of men, but to the purpose of God.That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. that in future you may spend the rest of your earthly lives, governed not by human passions, but by the will of God.
1st-Peter 4:3Because for long enough, in times past, we have been living after the way of the Gentiles, given up to the desires of the flesh, to drinking and feasting and loose behaviour and unclean worship of images; For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: For you have given time enough in the past to the doing of the things which the Gentiles delight in pursuing, as you did, a course of habitual licence, debauchery, hard drinking, noisy revelry, drunkenness and unholy image-worship.
1st-Peter 4:4And they are wondering that you no longer go with them in this violent wasting of life, and are saying evil things of you:Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: At this they are astonished that you do not run into the same excess of profligacy as they do; and they speak abusively of you.
1st-Peter 4:5But they will have to give an account of themselves to him who is ready to be the judge of the living and the dead.Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. But they will have to give account to Him who stands ready to pronounce judgement on the living and the dead.
1st-Peter 4:6For this was the reason why the good news of Jesus was given even to the dead, so that they might be judged as men in the flesh, but might be living before God in the spirit. For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. For it is with this end in view that the Good News was proclaimed even to some who were dead, that they may be judged, as all mankind will be judged, in the body, but may be living a godly life in the spirit.
1st-Peter 4:7But the end of all things is near: so be serious in your behaviour and keep on the watch with prayer; But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. But the end of all things is now close at hand: therefore be sober-minded and temperate, so that you may give yourselves to prayer.
1st-Peter 4:8And most of all be warm in your love for one another; because in love there is forgiveness for sins without number:And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Above all continue to love one another fervently, for love throws a veil over a multitude of faults.
1st-Peter 4:9Keep open house for all with a glad heart;Use hospitality one to another without grudging. Extend ungrudging hospitality towards one another.
1st-Peter 4:10Making distribution among one another of whatever has been given to you, like true servants of the unmeasured grace of God;As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whatever be the gifts which each has received, you must use them for one another's benefit, as good stewards of God's many-sided kindness.
1st-Peter 4:11If anyone has anything to say, let it be as the words of God; if anyone has the desire to be the servant of others, let him do it in the strength which is given by God; so that in all things God may have the glory through Jesus Christ, whose are the glory and the power for ever.If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. If any one preaches, let it be as uttering God's truth; if any one renders a service to others, let it be in the strength which God supplies; so that in everything glory may be given to God in the name of Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the might to the Ages of the Ages. Amen.
1st-Peter 4:12Dear brothers, do not be surprised, as if it was something strange, if your faith is tested as by fire:Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: Dear friends, do not be surprised at finding that that scorching flame of persecution is raging among you to put you to the test as though some surprising thing were accidentally happening to you.
1st-Peter 4:13But be glad that you are given a part in the pains of Christ; so that at the revelation of his glory you may have great joy.But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. On the contrary, in the degree that you share in the sufferings of the Christ, rejoice, so that at the unveiling of His glory you may also rejoice with triumphant gladness.
1st-Peter 4:14If men say evil things of you because of the name of Christ, happy are you; for the Spirit of glory and of God is resting on you.If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. You are to be envied, if you are being reproached for bearing the name of Christ; for in that case the Spirit of glory even the Spirit of God is resting upon you.
1st-Peter 4:15Let no one among you undergo punishment as a taker of life, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as one who is over-interested in other men's business; But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. But let not one of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evil-doer, or as a spy upon other people's business.
1st-Peter 4:16But if he undergoes punishment as a Christian, that is no shame to him; let him give glory to God in this name.Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. If, however, any one suffers because he is a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God for being permitted to bear that name.
1st-Peter 4:17For the time has come for the judging, starting with the church of God; but if it makes a start with us, what will be the end of those who are not under the rule of God?For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? For the time has come for judgement to begin, and to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who reject God's Good News?
1st-Peter 4:18And if it is hard for even the good man to get salvation, what chance has the man without religion or the sinner? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? And if it is difficult even for a righteous man to be saved, what will become of irreligious men and sinners?
1st-Peter 4:19For this reason let those who by the purpose of God undergo punishment, keep on in well-doing and put their souls into the safe hands of their Maker.Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. Therefore also, let those who are suffering in accordance with the will of God entrust their souls in well-doing to a faithful Creator.
