John 8:1But Jesus went to the Mountain of Olives.Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
John 8:2And early in the morning he came again into the Temple and all the people came to him and he was seated teaching them. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. At dawn, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down, and taught them.
John 8:3Now the scribes and Pharisees came, with a woman who had been taken in the act of sinning against the married relation; And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the midst,
John 8:4And putting her forward, they said to him, Master, this woman has been taken in the very act of sinning against the married relation. They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. they told him, "Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act.
John 8:5Now in the law Moses gave directions that such women were to be stoned; what do you say about it?Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such. What then do you say about her?"
John 8:6They said this, testing him, so that they might have something against him. But Jesus, with his head bent down, made letters on the floor with his finger. This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger, as if he didn't hear.
John 8:7But when they went on with their questions, he got up and said to them, Let him among you who is without sin be the first to send a stone at her.So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. But when they continued asking him, he lifted himself up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her."
John 8:8And again, with bent head, he made letters on the floor. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.
John 8:9And when his words came to their ears, they went out one by one, starting with the oldest even to the last, because they were conscious of what was in their hearts: and Jesus was there by himself with the woman before him.And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the midst.
John 8:10Then Jesus got up, and seeing nobody but the woman, he said to her, Where are the men who said things against you? did no one give a decision against you? When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? Jesus lifted himself up, and seeing no one but the woman, said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?"
John 8:11And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, And I do not give a decision against you: go, and never do wrong again.]She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. She said, "No one, Lord." Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more."
John 8:12Then again Jesus said to them, I am the light of the world; he who comes with me will not be walking in the dark but will have the light of life. Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."
John 8:13So the Pharisees said to him, The witness you give is about yourself: your witness is not true. The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. The Pharisees therefore said to him, "You testify about yourself. Your witness is not valid."
John 8:14Jesus said in answer, Even if I give witness about myself, my witness is true, because I have knowledge of where I came from and where I am going; but you have no knowledge of where I come from or of where I am going.Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. Jesus answered them, "Even if I testify about myself, my witness is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don't know where I came from, or where I am going.
John 8:15You are judging from what you see; I am judging no man.Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.
John 8:16Even if I am judging, my decision is right, because I am not by myself with me is the Father who sent me.And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.
John 8:17Even in your law it is said that the witness of two men is true.It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. It's also written in your law that the testimony of two men is valid.
John 8:18I give witness about myself and the Father who sent me gives witness about me.I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. I am he who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me."
John 8:19Then they said to him, Where is your Father? Jesus said in answer, You have no knowledge of me or of my Father: if you had knowledge of me you would have knowledge of my Father. Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. They said therefore to him, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me, nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also."
John 8:20Jesus said these words in the place where the offerings were stored, while he was teaching in the Temple: but no man took him because his time was still to come. These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come. Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. No one took him, because his hour had not yet come.
John 8:21Then he said to them again, I am going away and you will be looking for me, but death will overtake you in your sins. It is not possible for you to come where I am going. Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. Jesus said therefore again to them, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and will die in your sins. Where I go, you can't come."
John 8:22So the Jews said, Will he take his life? Is that why he says, Where I go it is not possible for you to come? Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. The Jews therefore said, "Will he kill himself, that he says, 'Where I am going, you can't come?'"
John 8:23And he said to them, You are of the earth; I am from heaven: you are of this world; I am not of this world. And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.
John 8:24For this reason I said to you that death will overtake you in your sins: for if you have not faith that I am he, death will come to you while you are in your sins.I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."
John 8:25Then they said to him, Who are you? Jesus said, What I said to you from the first. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. They said therefore to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.
John 8:26I have much to say about you and against you: but he who sent me is true and what he has said to me I say to the world.I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world."
John 8:27They did not see that his words were about the Father. They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. They didn't perceive that he spoke to them about the Father.
John 8:28So Jesus said, When the Son of man has been lifted up by you, then it will be clear to you who I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but say as the Father gave me teaching. Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. Jesus therefore said to them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then will you know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.
John 8:29He who sent me is with me; he has not gone from me, because at all times I do the things which are pleasing to him.And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn't left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him."
John 8:30When he said this a number came to have faith in him.As he spake these words, many believed on him. As he spoke these things, many believed in him.
John 8:31Then Jesus said to the Jews who had faith in him, If you keep my word, then you are truly my disciples; Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, "If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.
John 8:32And you will have knowledge of what is true, and that will make you free. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
John 8:33They said to him in answer, We are Abraham's seed and have never been any man's servant: why do you say, You will become free? They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? They answered him, "We are Abraham's seed, and have never yet been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, 'You will be made free?'"
John 8:34And this was the answer Jesus gave them: Truly I say to you, Everyone who does evil is the servant of sin.Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.
John 8:35Now the servant does not go on living in the house for ever, but the son does. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. A bondservant doesn't live in the house forever. A son remains forever.
John 8:36If then the son makes you free, you will be truly free.If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
John 8:37I am conscious that you are Abraham's seed; but you have a desire to put me to death because my word has no place in you.I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. I know that you are Abraham's seed, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.
John 8:38I say the things which I have seen in my Father's house: and you do the things which come to you from your father's house.I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father."
John 8:39In answer they said to him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus said to them, If you were Abraham's children you would do what Abraham did. They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. They answered him, "Our father is Abraham." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.
John 8:40But now you have a desire to put me to death, a man who has said to you what is true, as I had it from God: Abraham did not do that. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham didn't do this.
John 8:41You are doing the works of your father. They said to him, We are true sons of Abraham; we have one Father, who is God.Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. You do the works of your father." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God."
John 8:42Jesus said to them, If God was your Father you would have love for me, because it was from God I came and am here. I did not come of myself, but he sent me.Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Therefore Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came forth and have come from God. For neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.
John 8:43Why are my words not clear to you? It is because your ears are shut to my teaching. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Why don't you understand my speech? Because you can't hear my word.
John 8:44You are the children of your father the Evil One and it is your pleasure to do his desires. From the first he was a taker of life; and he did not go in the true way because there is no true thing in him. When he says what is false, it is natural to him, for he is false and the father of what is false.Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. You are of your Father, the devil, and it is your desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn't stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:45But because I say what is true, you have no belief in me.And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. But because I tell the truth, you don't believe me.
John 8:46Which of you is able truly to say that I am a sinner? If I say what is true, why have you no belief in me?Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?
John 8:47He who is a child of God gives ear to the words of God: your ears are not open to them because you are not from God.He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don't hear, because you are not of God."
John 8:48The Jews said to him in answer, Are we not right in saying that you are of Samaria and have an evil spirit? Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? Then the Jews answered him, "Don't we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?"
John 8:49And this was the answer of Jesus: I have not an evil spirit; but I give honour to my Father and you do not give honour to me.Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. Jesus answered, "I don't have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.
John 8:50I, however, am not in search of glory for myself: there is One who is searching for it and he is judge. And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. But I don't seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.
John 8:51Truly I say to you, If a man keeps my word he will never see death.Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. Most assuredly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death."
John 8:52The Jews said to him, Now we are certain that you have an evil spirit. Abraham is dead, and the prophets are dead; and you say, If a man keeps my word he will never see death. Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. Then the Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and you say, 'If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.'
John 8:53Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead: who do you say that you are?Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? Are you greater than our father, Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?"
John 8:54Jesus said in answer, If I take glory for myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who gives me glory, of whom you say that he is your God.Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.
John 8:55You have no knowledge of him, but I have knowledge of him; and if I said I have no knowledge of him I would be talking falsely like you: but I have full knowledge of him, and I keep his word.Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, 'I don't know him,' I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and keep his word.
John 8:56Your father Abraham was full of joy at the hope of seeing my day: he saw it and was glad.Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it, and was glad."
John 8:57Then the Jews said to him, You are not fifty years old; have you seen Abraham? Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? The Jews therefore said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?"
John 8:58Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, Before Abraham came into being, I am.Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I tell you, before Abraham was born, I AM."
John 8:59So they took up stones to send at him: but Jesus got secretly out of their way and went out of the Temple. Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. They took up stones therefore to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
