Philemon 1:1 | Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith, | Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer, | Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our beloved fellow worker, |
Philemon 1:2 | And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house: | And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house: | to the beloved Apphia, to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the assembly in your house: |
Philemon 1:3 | Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. | Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. | Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
Philemon 1:4 | I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you, | I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, | I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers, |
Philemon 1:5 | Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints; | Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; | hearing of your love, and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints; |
Philemon 1:6 | That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ. | That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. | that the fellowship of your faith may become effective, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in us, in Christ Jesus. |
Philemon 1:7 | For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother. | For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother. | For we have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother. |
Philemon 1:8 | And so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right, | Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient, | Therefore, though I have all boldness in Christ to command you that which is appropriate, |
Philemon 1:9 | Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus: | Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. | yet for love's sake I rather beg, being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus. |
Philemon 1:10 | My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains, | I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: | I beg you for my child, whom I have fathered in my bonds, Onesimus, |
Philemon 1:11 | Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me: | Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me: | who once was useless to you, but now is useful to you and to me; |
Philemon 1:12 | Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart: | Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels: | I am sending him back. You therefore receive him, that is, my own heart, |
Philemon 1:13 | Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place: | Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel: | whom I wanted to keep with me, that in your behalf he might minister to me in the bonds of the gospel. |
Philemon 1:14 | But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart. | But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly. | But I was willing to do nothing without your consent, that your goodness would not be as of necessity, but of free will. |
Philemon 1:15 | For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever; | For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever; | For perhaps he was therefore separated from you for a while, that you would have him forever, |
Philemon 1:16 | No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord. | Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord? | no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, specially to me, but how much rather to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord. |
Philemon 1:17 | If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself. | If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself. | If then you count me a partner, receive him as you would receive me. |
Philemon 1:18 | If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account. | If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account; | But if he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, put that to my account. |
Philemon 1:19 | I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life. | I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides. | I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it (not to mention to you that you owe to me even your own self besides). |
Philemon 1:20 | So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ. | Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord. | Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in the Lord. |
Philemon 1:21 | Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say. | Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say. | Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even beyond what I say. |
Philemon 1:22 | And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you. | But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you. | Also, prepare a guest room for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you. |
Philemon 1:23 | Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love; | There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus; | Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you, |
Philemon 1:24 | And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my brother-workers. | Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers. | as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers. |
Philemon 1:25 | The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So be it. | The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. | The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. |
