Philemon 1:1Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith,Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our beloved fellow worker,
Philemon 1:2And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house:And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house: to the beloved Apphia, to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the assembly in your house:
Philemon 1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you,I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers,
Philemon 1:5Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints;Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; hearing of your love, and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints;
Philemon 1:6That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ.That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. that the fellowship of your faith may become effective, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in us, in Christ Jesus.
Philemon 1:7For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother. For we have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.
Philemon 1:8And so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right,Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient, Therefore, though I have all boldness in Christ to command you that which is appropriate,
Philemon 1:9Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus:Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. yet for love's sake I rather beg, being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus.
Philemon 1:10My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains,I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: I beg you for my child, whom I have fathered in my bonds, Onesimus,
Philemon 1:11Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me:Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me: who once was useless to you, but now is useful to you and to me;
Philemon 1:12Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart:Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels: I am sending him back. You therefore receive him, that is, my own heart,
Philemon 1:13Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place:Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel: whom I wanted to keep with me, that in your behalf he might minister to me in the bonds of the gospel.
Philemon 1:14But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart.But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly. But I was willing to do nothing without your consent, that your goodness would not be as of necessity, but of free will.
Philemon 1:15For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever;For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever; For perhaps he was therefore separated from you for a while, that you would have him forever,
Philemon 1:16No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord.Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord? no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, specially to me, but how much rather to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.
Philemon 1:17If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself.If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself. If then you count me a partner, receive him as you would receive me.
Philemon 1:18If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account.If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account; But if he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, put that to my account.
Philemon 1:19I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life.I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides. I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it (not to mention to you that you owe to me even your own self besides).
Philemon 1:20So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ.Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord. Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in the Lord.
Philemon 1:21Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say.Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say. Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even beyond what I say.
Philemon 1:22And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you.But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you. Also, prepare a guest room for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you.
Philemon 1:23Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love;There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus; Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,
Philemon 1:24And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my brother-workers.Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers. as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So be it.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
