1st-Peter 4:1 | So that as Jesus was put to death in the flesh, do you yourselves be of the same mind; for the death of the flesh puts an end to sin; | Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; | Christ, then, having suffered for us in [the] flesh, do *ye* also arm yourselves with the same mind; for he that has suffered in [the] flesh has done with sin, |
1st-Peter 4:2 | So that you may give the rest of your lives in the flesh, not to the desires of men, but to the purpose of God. | That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. | no longer to live the rest of [his] time in [the] flesh to men's lusts, but to God's will. |
1st-Peter 4:3 | Because for long enough, in times past, we have been living after the way of the Gentiles, given up to the desires of the flesh, to drinking and feasting and loose behaviour and unclean worship of images; | For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revelings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: | For the time past [is] sufficient [for us] to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, walking in lasciviousness, lusts, wine-drinking, revels, drinkings, and unhallowed idolatries. |
1st-Peter 4:4 | And they are wondering that you no longer go with them in this violent wasting of life, and are saying evil things of you: | In which they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: | Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] to the same sink of corruption, speaking injuriously [of you]; |
1st-Peter 4:5 | But they will have to give an account of themselves to him who is ready to be the judge of the living and the dead. | Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead. | who shall render account to him who is ready to judge [the] living and [the] dead. |
1st-Peter 4:6 | For this was the reason why the good news of Jesus was given even to the dead, so that they might be judged as men in the flesh, but might be living before God in the spirit. | For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. | For to this [end] were the glad tidings preached to [the] dead also, that they might be judged, as regards men, after [the] flesh, but live, as regards God, after [the] Spirit. |
1st-Peter 4:7 | But the end of all things is near: so be serious in your behaviour and keep on the watch with prayer; | But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch to prayer. | But the end of all things is drawn nigh: be sober therefore, and be watchful unto prayers; |
1st-Peter 4:8 | And most of all be warm in your love for one another; because in love there is forgiveness for sins without number: | And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity will cover a multitude of sins. | but before all things having fervent love among yourselves, because love covers a multitude of sins; |
1st-Peter 4:9 | Keep open house for all with a glad heart; | Use hospitality one to another without grudging. | hospitable one to another, without murmuring; |
1st-Peter 4:10 | Making distribution among one another of whatever has been given to you, like true servants of the unmeasured grace of God; | As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. | each according as he has received a gift, ministering it to one another, as good stewards of [the] various grace of God. |
1st-Peter 4:11 | If anyone has anything to say, let it be as the words of God; if anyone has the desire to be the servant of others, let him do it in the strength which is given by God; so that in all things God may have the glory through Jesus Christ, whose are the glory and the power for ever. | If any man speaketh let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man ministereth let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ; to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. | If any one speak as oracles of God; if any one minister as of strength which God supplies; that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the might for the ages of ages. Amen. |
1st-Peter 4:12 | Dear brothers, do not be surprised, as if it was something strange, if your faith is tested as by fire: | Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you: | Beloved, take not [as] strange the fire [of persecution] which has taken place amongst you for [your] trial, as if a strange thing was happening to you; |
1st-Peter 4:13 | But be glad that you are given a part in the pains of Christ; so that at the revelation of his glory you may have great joy. | But rejoice, seeing ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. | but as ye have share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, that in the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exultation. |
1st-Peter 4:14 | If men say evil things of you because of the name of Christ, happy are you; for the Spirit of glory and of God is resting on you. | If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. | If ye are reproached in [the] name of Christ, blessed [are ye]; for the [Spirit] of glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you: [on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.] |
1st-Peter 4:15 | Let no one among you undergo punishment as a taker of life, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as one who is over-interested in other men's business; | But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as a busy-body in other men's matters. | Let none of you suffer indeed as murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or as overseer of other people's matters; |
1st-Peter 4:16 | But if he undergoes punishment as a Christian, that is no shame to him; let him give glory to God in this name. | Yet if any man suffereth as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. | but if as a christian, let him not be ashamed, but glorify God in this name. |
1st-Peter 4:17 | For the time has come for the judging, starting with the church of God; but if it makes a start with us, what will be the end of those who are not under the rule of God? | For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first beginneth at us, what will be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God? | For the time of having the judgment begin from the house of God [is come]; but if first from us, what [shall be] the end of those who obey not the glad tidings of God? |
1st-Peter 4:18 | And if it is hard for even the good man to get salvation, what chance has the man without religion or the sinner? | And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where will the ungodly and the sinner appear? | And if the righteous is difficultly saved, where shall the impious and [the] sinner appear? |
1st-Peter 4:19 | For this reason let those who by the purpose of God undergo punishment, keep on in well-doing and put their souls into the safe hands of their Maker. | Wherefore, let them that suffer according to the will of God, commit the keeping of their souls to him in well-doing, as to a faithful Creator. | Wherefore also let them who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing to a faithful Creator. |
