1st-Kings 11:1 | Now a number of strange women were loved by Solomon, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: | But king Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; | And king Solomon loved many strange women besides the daughter of Pharao, and women of Moab, and of Ammon, and of Edom, and of Sidon, and of the Hethites: |
1st-Kings 11:2 | The nations of which the Lord had said to the children of Israel, You are not to take wives from them and they are not to take wives from you; or they will certainly make you go after their gods: to these Solomon was united in love. | Of the nations concerning which the LORD said to the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in to you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon cleaved to these in love. | Of the nations concerning which the Lord said to the children of Israel: You shall not go in unto them, neither shall any of them come in to yours: for they will most certainly turn away your heart to follow their gods. And to these was Solomon joined with a most ardent love. |
1st-Kings 11:3 | He had seven hundred wives, daughters of kings, and three hundred other wives; and through his wives his heart was turned away. | And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. | And he had seven hundred wives as queens, and three hundred concubines: and the women turned away his heart. |
1st-Kings 11:4 | For it came about that when Solomon was old, his heart was turned away to other gods by his wives; and his heart was no longer true to the Lord his God as the heart of his father David had been. | For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. | And when he was now old, his heart was turned away by women to follow strange gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father. |
1st-Kings 11:5 | For Solomon went after Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Zidonians, and Milcom, the disgusting god of the Ammonites. | For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. | But Solomon worshipped Astarthe the goddess of the Sidonians, and Moloch the idol of the ammonites. |
1st-Kings 11:6 | And Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord, not walking in the Lord's ways with all his heart as David his father did. | And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. | And Solomon did that which was net pleasing before the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as David his father. |
1st-Kings 11:7 | Then Solomon put up a high place for Chemosh, the disgusting god of Moab, in the mountain before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the disgusting god worshipped by the children of Ammon. | Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. | Then Solomon built a temple for Chamos the idol of Moab, on the hill that is over against Jerusalem, and for Moloch the idol of the children of Ammon. |
1st-Kings 11:8 | And so he did for all his strange wives, who made offerings with burning of perfumes to their gods. | And likewise did he for all his foreign wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed to their gods. | And he did in this manner for all his wives that were strangers, who burnt incense, and offered sacrifice to their gods. |
1st-Kings 11:9 | And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had twice come to him in a vision; | And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, | And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his mind was turned away from the Lord the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, |
1st-Kings 11:10 | And had given him orders about this very thing, that he was not to go after other gods; but he did not keep the orders of the Lord. | And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded. | And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not follow strange gods: but he kept not the things which the Lord commanded him. |
1st-Kings 11:11 | So the Lord said to Solomon, Because you have done this, and have not kept my agreement and my laws, which I gave you, I will take the kingdom away from you by force and will give it to your servant. | Wherefore the LORD said to Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done by thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. | The Lord therefore said to Solomon: Because thou hast done this, and hast not kept my covenant, and my precepts, which I have commanded thee, I will divide and rend thy kingdom, and will give it to thy servant. |
1st-Kings 11:12 | I will not do it in your life-time, because of your father David, but I will take it from your son. | Notwithstanding, in thy days, I will not do it, for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. | Nevertheless in thy days I will not do it, for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. |
1st-Kings 11:13 | Still I will not take all the kingdom from him; but I will give one tribe to your son, because of my servant David, and because of Jerusalem, the town of my selection. | Yet, I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen. | Neither will I take away the whole kingdom, but I will give one tribe to thy son for the sake of David my servant, and Jerusalem which I have chosen. |
1st-Kings 11:14 | So the Lord sent Hadad the Edomite to make trouble for Solomon: he was of the king's seed in Edom. | And the LORD stirred up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king's seed in Edom. | And the Lord raised up an adversary to Solomon, Adad the Edomite of the king's seed, in Edom. |
1st-Kings 11:15 | And when David had sent destruction on Edom, and Joab, the captain of the army, had gone to put the dead into the earth, and had put to death every male in Edom; | For it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the host had gone up to bury the slain, after he had smitten every male in Edom; | For when David was in Edom, and Joab the general of the army was gone up to bury them that were slain, and had killed every male in Edom, |
1st-Kings 11:16 | (For Joab and all Israel were there six months till every male in Edom had been cut off;) | (For six months did Joab remain there with all Israel, until he had cut off every male in Edom:) | (For Joab remained there six months with all Israel, till he had slain every male in Edom,) |
1st-Kings 11:17 | Hadad, being still a young boy, went in flight to Egypt, with certain Edomites, servants of his father; | That Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father's servants with him, to go into Egypt; Hadad being yet a little child. | Then Adad fled, he and certain Edomites, of his father's servants with him, to go into Egypt: and Adad was then a little boy. |
1st-Kings 11:18 | And they went on from Midian and came to Paran; and, taking men from Paran with them, they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who gave him a house and gave orders for his food and gave him land. | And they arose out of Midian, and came to Paran: and they took men with them from Paran, and they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt; who gave him a house, and appointed him victuals, and gave him land. | And they arose out of Madian, and came into Pharan, and they took men with them from Pharan, and went into Egypt to Pharao the king of Egypt: who gave him a house, and appointed him victuals, and assigned him land. |
1st-Kings 11:19 | Now Hadad was very pleasing to Pharaoh, so that he gave him the sister of his wife, Tahpenes the queen, for his wife. | And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him for a wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen. | And Adad found great favour before Pharao, insomuch that he gave him to wife, the own sister of his wife Taphnes the queen. |
1st-Kings 11:20 | And the sister of Tahpenes had a son by him, Genubath, whom Tahpenes took care of in Pharaoh's house; and Genubath was living in Pharaoh's house among Pharaoh's sons. | And the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's house: and Genubath was in Pharaoh's household among the sons of Pharaoh. | And the sister of Taphnes bore him his son Genubath, and Taphnes brought him up in the house of Pharao: and Genubath dwelt with Pharao among his children. |
1st-Kings 11:21 | Now when Hadad had news in Egypt that David had been put to rest with his fathers, and that Joab, the captain of the army, was dead, he said to Pharaoh, Send me back to my country. | And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the host was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart, that I may go to my own country. | And when Adad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the general of the army was dead, he add to Pharao: Let me depart, that I may go to my own country. |
1st-Kings 11:22 | But Pharaoh said to him, What have you been short of while you have been with me, that you are desiring to go back to your country? And he said, Nothing; but even so, send me back. | Then Pharaoh said to him, But what hast thou lacked with me, that, behold, thou seekest to go to thy own country? And he answered, Nothing: yet, in any wise let me go. | And Pharao said to him: Why, what is wanting to thee with me, that thou seekest to go to thy own country? But he answered: Nothing: yet I beseech thee to let me go. |
1st-Kings 11:23 | And God sent another trouble-maker, Rezon, the son of Eliada, who had gone in flight from his lord, Hadadezer, king of Zobah: | And God stirred him up another adversary, Rezon the son of Eliadah, who fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah: | God also raised up against him an adversary, Razon the son of Eliada, 'who had fled from his master Adarezer the king of Soba: |
1st-Kings 11:24 | He got some men together and made himself captain of a band of outlaws; and went to Damascus and became king there. | And he gathered men to him, and became captain over a band, when David slew them of Zobah: and they went to Damascus, and dwelt in it, and reigned in Damascus. | And he gathered men against him, and he became a captain of robbers, when David slew them of Soba: and they went to Damascus, and dwelt there, and they made him king in Damascus. |
1st-Kings 11:25 | He was a trouble to Israel all through the days of Solomon. And this is the damage Hadad did: he was cruel to Israel while he was ruler over Edom. | And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, besides the mischief that Hadad did: and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria. | And he was an adversary to Israel, all the days of Solomon: and this is the evil of Adad, and his hatred against Israel, and he reigned in Syria. |
1st-Kings 11:26 | And there was Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite from Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother was Zeruah, a widow; and his hand was lifted up against the king. | And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, Solomon's servant, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow woman, even he raised his hand against the king. | Jeroboam also the son of Nabat an Ephrathite of Sareda, a servant of Solomon, whose mother was named Sarua, a widow woman, lifted up his hand against the king. |
1st-Kings 11:27 | The way in which his hand came to be lifted up against the king was this: Solomon was building the Millo and making good the damaged parts of the town of his father David; | And this was the cause why he raised his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father. | And this is the cause of his rebellion against him, for Solomon built Mello, and filled up the breach of the city of David his father. |
1st-Kings 11:28 | And Jeroboam was an able and responsible man; and Solomon saw that he was a good worker and made him overseer of all the work given to the sons of Joseph. | And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor: and Solomon, seeing the young man that he was industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph. | And Jeroboam was a valiant and mighty man: and Solomon seeing him a young man ingenious and industrious, made him chief over the tributes of all the house of Joseph. |
1st-Kings 11:29 | Now at that time, when Jeroboam was going out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite came across him on the road; now Ahijah had put on a new robe; and the two of them were by themselves in the open country. | And it came to pass at that time when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way; and he had clad himself with a new garment; and they two were alone in the field: | So it came to paste at that time, that Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, and the prophet Ahias the Silonite, clad with a new garment, found him in the way: and they two were alone in the held. |
1st-Kings 11:30 | And Ahijah took his new robe in his hands, parting it violently into twelve. | And Ahijah caught the new garment that was on him, and rent it in twelve pieces: | And Ahias taking his new garment, wherewith he was clad, divided it into twelve parts: |
1st-Kings 11:31 | And he said to Jeroboam, Take ten of the parts, for this is what the Lord has said: See, I will take the kingdom away from Solomon by force, and will give ten tribes to you; | And he said to Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces: for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom from the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee: | 31And he said to Jeroboam: Take to thee ten pieces: for thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Behold I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give thee ten tribes. |
1st-Kings 11:32 | (But one tribe will be his, because of my servant David, and because of Jerusalem, the town which, out of all the tribes of Israel, I have made mine,) | (But he shall have one tribe for my servant David's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:) | But one tribe shall remain to him for the sake of my servant David, and Jerusalem the city, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel: |
1st-Kings 11:33 | Because they are turned away from me to the worship of Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Zidonians, and Chemosh, the god of Moab, and Milcom, the god of the Ammonites; they have not been walking in my ways or doing what is right in my eyes or keeping my laws and my decisions as his father David did. | Because they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father. | Because he hath forsaken me, and hath adored Astarthe the goddess of the Sidonians, and Chamos the god of Moab, and Moloch the god of the children of Ammon: and hath not walked in my ways, to do justice before me, and to keep my precepts, and judgments as did David his father. |
1st-Kings 11:34 | But I will not take the kingdom from him; I will let him be king all the days of his life, because of David my servant, in whom I took delight because he kept my orders and my laws. | Yet I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant's sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes: | Yet I will not take away all the kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant's sake, whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my precepts. |
1st-Kings 11:35 | But I will take the kingdom from his son, and give it to you. | But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it to thee, even ten tribes. | But I will take away the kingdom out of his son's hand and will give thee ten tribes: |
1st-Kings 11:36 | And one tribe I will give to his son, so that David my servant may have a light for ever burning before me in Jerusalem, the town which I have made mine to put my name there. | And to his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for me to put my name there. | And to his son I will give one tribe, that there may remain a lamp for my servant David before me always in Jerusalem the city which I have chosen, that my name might be there. |
1st-Kings 11:37 | And you I will take, and you will be king over Israel, ruling over whatever is the desire of your soul. | And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign according to all that thy soul desireth, and shalt be king over Israel. | And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign over all that thy soul desireth, and thou shalt be king over Israel. |
1st-Kings 11:38 | And if you give attention to the orders I give you, walking in my ways and doing what is right in my eyes and keeping my laws and my orders as David my servant did; then I will be with you, building up for you a safe house, as I did for David, and I will give Israel to you. | And it shall be, if thou wilt hearken to all that I command thee, and wilt walk in my ways, and do right in my sight, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did; that I will be with thee, and build thee a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel to thee. | If then thou wilt hearken to all that I shall command thee, and wilt walk in my ways, and do what is right before me, keeping my commandments and my precepts, as David my servant did: I will be with thee, and will build thee up a faithful house, as I built a house for David, and I will deliver Israel to thee: |
1st-Kings 11:39 | (So that I may send trouble for this on the seed of David, but not for ever.) | And I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not for ever. | And I will for this afflict the seed of David, but yet not for ever. |
1st-Kings 11:40 | And Solomon was looking for a chance to put Jeroboam to death; but he went in flight to Egypt, to Shishak, king of Egypt, and was in Egypt till the death of Solomon. | Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam. And Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon. | Solomon therefore sought to kill Jeroboam: but he arose, and fled into Egypt to Sesac the king of Egypt, and was in Egypt till the death of Solomon. |
1st-Kings 11:41 | Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all he did, and his wisdom, are they not recorded in the book of the acts of Solomon? | And the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon? | And the rest of the words of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom: behold they are all written in the book of the words of the days of Solomon. |
1st-Kings 11:42 | And the time Solomon was king in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. | And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. | And the days that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel, were forty years. |
1st-Kings 11:43 | And Solomon went to rest with his fathers, and was put into the earth in the town of David his father: and Solomon went to rest with his fathers and Rehoboam his son became king in his place. | And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead. | And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father, and Roboam his son reigned in his stead. |
