Philemon 1:1Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith,Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellow-laborer,Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy, a brother: to Philemon, our beloved and fellow labourer;
Philemon 1:2And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house:And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house:And to Appia, our dearest sister, and to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the church which is in thy house:
Philemon 1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you,I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,I give thanks to my God, always making a remembrance of thee in my prayers.
Philemon 1:5Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints;Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all saints;Hearing of thy charity and faith, which thou hast in the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints:
Philemon 1:6That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ.That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.That the communication of thy faith may be made evident in the acknowledgment of every good work, that is in you in Christ Jesus.
Philemon 1:7For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.For I have had great joy and consolation in thy charity, because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed by thee, brother.
Philemon 1:8And so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right,Wherefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient.Wherefore though I have much confidence in Christ Jesus, to command thee that which is to the purpose:
Philemon 1:9Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus:Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.For charity sake I rather beseech, whereas thou art such a one, as Paul an old man, and now a prisoner also of Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:10My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains,I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:I beseech thee for my son, whom I have begotten in my bands, Onesimus,
Philemon 1:11Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me:Who in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:Who hath been heretofore unprofitable to thee, but now is profitable both to me and thee,
Philemon 1:12Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart:Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, my own bowels:Whom I have sent back to thee. And do thou receive him as my own bowels.
Philemon 1:13Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place:Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered to me in the bonds of the gospel:Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered to me in the bands of the gospel:
Philemon 1:14But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart.But without thy mind I would do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.But without thy counsel I would do nothing: that thy good deed might not be as it were of necessity, but voluntary.
Philemon 1:15For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever;For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldst receive him for ever;For perhaps he therefore departed for a season from thee, that thou mightest receive him again for ever:
Philemon 1:16No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord.Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more to thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?Not now as a servant, but instead of a servant, a most dear brother, especially to me: but how much more to thee both in the flesh and in the Lord?
Philemon 1:17If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself.If thou accountest me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.If therefore thou count me a partner, receive him as myself.
Philemon 1:18If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account.If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee aught, put that on my account;And if he hath wronged thee in any thing, or is in thy debt, put that to my account.
Philemon 1:19I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life.I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will repay it: although I do not say to thee that thou owest to me even thy own self besides.I Paul have written it with my own hand: I will repay it: not to say to thee, that thou owest me thy own self also.
Philemon 1:20So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ.Yes, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.Yea, brother. May I enjoy thee in the Lord. Refresh my bowels in the Lord.
Philemon 1:21Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say.Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote to thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.Trusting in thy obedience, I have written to thee: knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
Philemon 1:22And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you.But at the same time prepare me also a lodging; for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given to you.But withal prepare me also a lodging. For I hope that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
Philemon 1:23Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love;There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus;
Philemon 1:24And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my brother-workers.Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellow-laborers.Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke my fellow labourers.
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So be it.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
