| Matthew 13:2 | And great numbers of people came together to him, so that he got into a boat; and the people took up their position by the sea. | And great multitudes were gathered to him, so that he went into a boat, and sat down; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. | when a vast multitude of people crowded round Him. He therefore went on board a boat and sat there, while all the people stood on the shore. |
| Matthew 13:3 | And he gave them teaching in the form of a story, saying, A man went out to put seed in the earth; | And he spoke many things to them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; | He then spoke many things to them in figurative language. "The sower goes out," He said, "to sow. |
| Matthew 13:4 | And while he did so, some seeds were dropped by the wayside, and the birds came and took them for food: | And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them: | As he sows, some of the seed falls by the way-side, and the birds come and peck it up. |
| Matthew 13:5 | And some of the seed went among the stones, where it had not much earth, and straight away it came up because the earth was not deep: | Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: | Some falls on rocky ground, where it has but scanty soil. It quickly shows itself above ground, because it has no depth of earth; |
| Matthew 13:6 | And when the sun was high, it was burned; and because it had no root it became dry and dead. | And when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had not root, they withered. | but when the sun is risen, it is scorched by the heat, and through having no root it withers up. |

| Matthew 13:12 | Because whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have more; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. | For whoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath. | For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but whoever has not, from him even what he has shall be taken away. |
| Matthew 13:13 | For this reason I put things into the form of stories; because they see without seeing, and give ear without hearing, and the sense is not clear to them. | Therefore I speak to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. | I speak to them in figurative language for this reason, that while looking they do not see, and while hearing they neither hear nor understand. |
| Matthew 13:14 | And for them the words of Isaiah have come true, Though you give ear, you will not get knowledge; and seeing, you will see, but the sense will not be clear to you: | And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: | And in regard to them the prophecy of Isaiah is receiving signal fulfilment: "`You will hear and hear and by no means understand, and you will look and look and by no means see. |
| Matthew 13:15 | For the heart of this people has become fat and their ears are slow in hearing and their eyes are shut; for fear that they might see with their eyes and give hearing with their ears and become wise in their hearts and be turned again to me, so that I might make them well. | For this people's heart is become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. | For this people's mind is stupefied, their hearing has become dull, and their eyes they have closed; to prevent their ever seeing with their eyes, or hearing with their ears, or understanding with their minds, and turning back, so that I might heal them.' |
| Matthew 13:16 | But a blessing be on your eyes, because they see; and on your ears, because they are open. | But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. | "But as for you, blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. |
| Matthew 13:17 | For truly, I say to you that prophets and upright men had a desire to see the things which you see, and saw them not; and to have knowledge of the words which have come to your ears, and they had it not. | For verily I say to you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see the things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things which ye hear, and have not heard them. | For I solemnly tell you that many Prophets and holy men have longed to see the sights you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the words you hear, and have not heard them. |
| Matthew 13:18 | Give ear, then, to the story of the man who put the seed in the earth. | Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. | "To you then I will explain the parable of the Sower. |
| Matthew 13:19 | When the word of the kingdom comes to anyone, and the sense of it is not clear to him, then the Evil One comes, and quickly takes away that which was put in his heart. He is the seed dropped by the wayside. | When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the way side. | When a man hears the Message concerning the Kingdom and does not understand it, the Evil one comes and catches away what has been sown in his heart. This is he who has received the seed by the road-side. |
| Matthew 13:20 | And that which went on the stones, this is he who, hearing the word, straight away takes it with joy; | But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and immediately with joy receiveth it; | He who has received the seed on the rocky ground is the man who hears the Message and immediately receives it with joy. |
| Matthew 13:21 | But having no root in himself, he goes on for a time; and when trouble comes or pain, because of the word, he quickly becomes full of doubts. | Yet he hath not root in himself, but endureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, forthwith he is offended. | It has struck no root, however, within him. He continues for a time, but when suffering comes, or persecution, because of the Message, he at once stumbles and falls. |
| Matthew 13:22 | And that which was dropped among the thorns, this is he who has the word; and the cares of this life, and the deceits of wealth, put a stop to the growth of the word and it gives no fruit. | He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. | He who has received the seed among the thorns is the man who hears the Message, but the cares of the present age and the delusions of riches quite stifle the Message, and it becomes unfruitful. |

The servants said to him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them? | "`Some enemy has done this,' he said. "`Shall we go, and collect it?' the men inquire. |
| Matthew 13:29 | But he says, No, for fear that by chance while you take up the evil plants, you may be rooting up the grain with them. | But he said, No; lest while ye gather the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. | "`No,' he replied, `for fear that while collecting the darnel you should at the same time root up the wheat with it. |
| Matthew 13:30 | Let them come up together till the getting in of the grain; and then I will say to the workers, Take up first the evil plants, and put them together for burning: but put the grain into my store-house. | Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. | Leave both to grow together until the harvest, and at harvest-time I will direct the reapers, Collect the darnel first, and make it up into bundles to burn it, but bring all the wheat into my barn.'" |
