John 7:1 | After this, Jesus went from place to place in Galilee. He did not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were looking for a chance to put him to death. | After this Jesus moved from place to place in Galilee. He would not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were seeking an opportunity to kill Him. | And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him. |
John 7:2 | But the feast of the Jews, the feast of tents, was near. | But the Jewish Festival of the Tent-Pitching was approaching. | Now the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was at hand. |
John 7:3 | So his brothers said to him, Go away from here into Judaea so that your disciples may see the works which you do. | So His brothers said to Him, "Leave these parts and go into Judaea, that not only we but your disciples also may witness the miracles which you perform. | His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may behold thy works which thou doest. |
John 7:4 | Because no man does things secretly if he has a desire that men may have knowledge of him. If you do these things, let yourself be seen by all men. | For no one acts in secret, desiring all the while to be himself known publicly. Since you are doing these things, show yourself openly to the world." | For no man doeth anything in secret, and himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world. |
John 7:5 | For even his brothers had no belief in him. | For even His brothers were not believers in Him. | For even his brethren did not believe on him. |
John 7:6 | Jesus said to them, My time is still to come, but any time is good for you. | "My time," replied Jesus, "has not yet come, but for you any time is suitable. | Jesus therefore saith unto them, My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready. |
John 7:7 | It is not possible for you to be hated by the world; but I am hated by it, because I give witness that what it does is evil. | It is impossible for the world to hate you; but me it does hate, because I give testimony concerning it that its conduct is evil. | The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil. |
John 7:8 | Go you up to the feast: I am not going up now to the feast because my time has not fully come. | As for you, go up to the Festival. I do not now go up to this Festival, because my time is not yet fully come." | Go ye up unto the feast: I go not up unto this feast; because my time is not yet fulfilled. |
John 7:9 | Having said these things to them, he still kept in Galilee. | Such was His answer, and He remained in Galilee. | And having said these things unto them, he abode [still] in Galilee. |
John 7:10 | But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he went up, not publicly, but in secret. | When however His brothers had gone up to the Festival, then He also went up, not openly, but as it were privately. | But when his brethren were gone up unto the feast, then went he also up, not publicly, but as it were in secret. |
John 7:11 | At the feast the Jews were looking for him and saying, Where is he? | Meanwhile the Jews at the Festival were looking for Him and were inquiring, "Where is he?" | The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? |
John 7:12 | And there was much discussion about him among the mass of the people. Some said, He is a good man; but others said, No, he is giving people false ideas. | Among the mass of the people there was much muttered debate about Him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so: he is imposing on the people." | And there was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him: some said, He is a good man; others said, Not so, but he leadeth the multitude astray. |
John 7:13 | But no man said anything about him openly for fear of the Jews. | Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke out boldly about Him. | Yet no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews. |
John 7:14 | Now in the middle of the feast Jesus went up to the Temple and was teaching. | But when the Festival was already half over, Jesus went up to the Temple and commenced teaching. | But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. |
John 7:15 | Then the Jews were surprised and said, How has this man got knowledge of books? He has never been to school. | The Jews were astonished. "How does this man know anything of books," they said, "although he has never been at any of the schools?" | The Jews therefore marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? |
John 7:16 | Jesus gave them this answer: It is not my teaching, but his who sent me. | Jesus answered their question by saying, "My teaching does not belong to me, but comes from Him who sent me. | Jesus therefore answered them and said, My teaching is not mine, but his that sent me. |
John 7:17 | If any man is ready to do God's pleasure he will have knowledge of the teaching and of where it comes from from God or from myself. | If any one is willing to do His will, he shall know about the teaching, whether it is from God or originates with me. | If any man willeth to do his will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it is of God, or [whether] I speak from myself. |
John 7:18 | The man whose words come from himself is looking for glory for himself, but he who is looking for the glory of him who sent him that man is true and there is no evil in him. | The man whose teaching originates with himself aims at his own glory. He who aims at the glory of Him who sent him teaches the truth, and there is no deception in him. | He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. |
John 7:19 | Did not Moses give you the law? Even so, not one of you keeps the law. Why have you a desire to put me to death? | Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not a man of you obeys the Law. Why do you want to kill me?" | Did not Moses give you the law, and [yet] none of you doeth the law? Why seek ye to kill me? |
John 7:20 | The people said in answer, You have an evil spirit: who has any desire to put you to death? | "You are possessed by a demon," replied the crowd; "no one wants to kill you." | The multitude answered, Thou hast a demon: who seeketh to kill thee? |
John 7:21 | This was the answer of Jesus: I have done one work and you are all surprised at it. | "One deed I have done," replied Jesus, "and you are all full of wonder. | Jesus answered and said unto them, I did one work, and ye all marvel because thereof. |
John 7:22 | Moses gave you circumcision not that it comes from Moses, but from the fathers and even on the Sabbath you give a child circumcision. | Consider therefore. Moses gave you the rite of circumcision (not that it began with Moses, but with your earlier forefathers), and even on a Sabbath day you circumcise a child. | Moses hath given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers); and on the sabbath ye circumcise a man. |
John 7:23 | If a child is given circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? | If a child is circumcised even on a Sabbath day, are you bitter against me because I have restored a man to perfect health on a Sabbath day? | If a man receiveth circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are ye wroth with me, because I made a man every whit whole on the sabbath? |
John 7:24 | Let not your decisions be based on what you see, but on righteousness. | Do not form superficial judgements, but form the judgements that are just." | Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment. |
John 7:25 | Then some of the people of Jerusalem said, Is not this the man whose death is desired? | Some however of the people of Jerusalem said, "Is not this the man they are wanting to kill? | Some therefore of them of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill? |
John 7:26 | And here he is talking openly and they say nothing to him! Is it possible that the rulers have knowledge that this is truly the Christ? | But here he is, speaking openly and boldly, and they say nothing to him! Can the Rulers really have ascertained that this man is the Christ? | And lo, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing unto him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is the Christ? |
John 7:27 | However, it is clear to us where this man comes from: but when the Christ comes no one will have knowledge where he comes from. | And yet we know this man, and we know where he is from; but as for the Christ, when He comes, no one can tell where He is from." | Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no one knoweth whence he is. |
John 7:28 | Then, when he was teaching in the Temple, Jesus said with a loud voice, You have knowledge of me and you have knowledge of where I come from; and I have not come of myself; but there is One who has sent me; he is true, but you have no knowledge of him. | Jesus therefore, while teaching in the Temple, cried aloud, and said, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. And yet I have not come of my own accord; but there is One who has sent me, an Authority indeed, of whom you have no knowledge. | Jesus therefore cried in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me, and know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. |
John 7:29 | I have knowledge of him because I came from him and he sent me. | I know Him, because I came from Him, and He sent me." | I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me. |
John 7:30 | Then they had a desire to take him: but no man put hands on him because his hour was still to come. | On hearing this they wanted to arrest Him; yet not a hand was laid on Him, because His time had not yet come. | They sought therefore to take him: and no man laid his hand on him, because his hour was not yet come. |
John 7:31 | And numbers of the people had belief in him, and they said, When the Christ comes will he do more signs than this man has done? | But from among the crowd a large number believed in Him. "When the Christ comes," they said, "will He perform more miracles than this teacher has performed?" | But of the multitude many believed on him; and they said, When the Christ shall come, will he do more signs than those which this man hath done? |
John 7:32 | This discussion of the people came to the ears of the Pharisees; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent servants to take him. | The Pharisees heard the people thus expressing their various doubts about Him, and the High Priests and the Pharisees sent some officers to apprehend Him. | The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to take him. |
John 7:33 | Then Jesus said, I will be with you a little longer and then I go to him who sent me. | So Jesus said, "Still for a short time I am with you, and then I go my way to Him who sent me. | Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while am I with you, and I go unto him that sent me. |
John 7:34 | You will be looking for me, and you will not see me: and where I am you may not come. | You will look for me and will not find me, and where I am you cannot come." | Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, ye cannot come. |
John 7:35 | So the Jews said among themselves, To what place is he going where we will not see him? will he go to the Jews living among the Greeks and become the teacher of the Greeks? | The Jews therefore said to one another, "Where is he about to betake himself, so that we shall not find him? Will he betake himself to the Dispersion among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? | The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go that we shall not find him? will he go unto the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? |
John 7:36 | What is this saying of his, You will be looking for me and will not see me, and where I am you may not come? | What do those words of his mean, `You will look for me, but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come'?" | What is this word that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come? |
John 7:37 | On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus got up and said in a loud voice, If any man is in need of drink let him come to me and I will give it to him. | On the last day of the Festival the great day Jesus stood up and cried aloud. "Whoever is thirsty," He said, "let him come to me and drink. | Now on the last day, the great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. |
John 7:38 | He who has faith in me, out of his body, as the Writings have said, will come rivers of living water. | He who believes in me, from within him as the Scripture has said rivers of living water shall flow." | He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, from within him shall flow rivers of living water. |
John 7:39 | This he said of the Spirit which would be given to those who had faith in him: the Spirit had not been given then, because the glory of Jesus was still to come. | He referred to the Spirit which those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not bestowed as yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. | But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: for the Spirit was not yet [given]; because Jesus was not yet glorified. |
John 7:40 | When these words came to their ears, some of the people said, This is certainly the prophet. | After listening to these discourses, some of the crowd began to say, "This is beyond doubt the Prophet." | [Some] of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is of a truth the prophet. |
John 7:41 | Others said, This is the Christ. But others said, Not so; will the Christ come from Galilee? | Others said, "He is the Christ." But others again, "Not so, for is the Christ to come from Galilee? | Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, What, doth the Christ come out of Galilee? |
John 7:42 | Do not the Writings say that the Christ comes of the seed of David and from Beth-lehem, the little town where David was? | Has not the Scripture declared that the Christ is to come of the family of David and from Bethlehem, David's village?" | Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was? |
John 7:43 | So there was a division among the people because of him. | So there was a violent dissension among the people on His account. | So there arose a division in the multitude because of him. |
John 7:44 | And some of them had a desire to take him; but no man put hands on him. | Some of them wanted at once to arrest Him, but no one laid hands upon Him. | And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him. |
John 7:45 | Then the servants went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, Why have you not got him with you? | Meanwhile the officers returned to the High Priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why have you not brought him?" | The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why did ye not bring him? |
John 7:46 | The servants made answer, No man ever said things like this man. | "No mere man has ever spoken as this man speaks," said the officers. | The officers answered, Never a man so spake. |
John 7:47 | Then the Pharisees said to them, Have you, like the others, been given false ideas? | "Are *you* deluded too?" replied the Pharisees; | The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also led astray? |
John 7:48 | Have any of the rulers belief in him, or any one of the Pharisees? | "has any one of the Rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? | Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees? |
John 7:49 | But these people who have no knowledge of the law are cursed. | But this rabble who understand nothing about the Law are accursed!" | But this multitude that knoweth not the law are accursed. |
John 7:50 | Nicodemus he who had come to Jesus before, being himself one of them said to them, | Nicodemus interposed he who had formerly gone to Jesus, being himself one of them. | Nicodemus saith unto them (he that came to him before, being one of them), |
John 7:51 | Is a man judged by our law before it has given him a hearing and has knowledge of what he has done? | "Does our Law," he asked, "judge a man without first hearing what he has to say and ascertaining what his conduct is?" | Doth our law judge a man, except it first hear from himself and know what he doeth? |
John 7:52 | This was their answer: And do you come from Galilee? Make search and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee. | "Do you also come from Galilee?" they asked in reply. "Search and see for yourself that no Prophet is of Galilaean origin." | They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. |
John 7:53 | [And every man went to his house; | [So they went away to their several homes; | And they went every man unto his own house: |
