Luke 2:1Now it came about in those days that an order went out from Caesar Augustus that there was to be a numbering of all the world.Just at this time an edict was issued by Caesar Augustus for the registration of the whole Empire.But it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census should be made of all the habitable world.
Luke 2:2This was the first numbering, which was made when Quirinius was ruler of Syria.It was the first registration made during the governorship of Quirinius in Syria;The census itself first took place when Cyrenius had the government of Syria.
Luke 2:3And all men went to be numbered, everyone to his town.and all went to be registered every one to the town to which he belonged.And all went to be inscribed in the census roll, each to his own city:
Luke 2:4And Joseph went up from Galilee, out of the town of Nazareth, into Judaea, to Beth-lehem, the town of David, because he was of the house and family of David,So Joseph went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judaea, to David's town of Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,and Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city Nazareth to Judaea, to David's city, the which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
Luke 2:5To be put on the list with Mary, his future wife, who was about to become a mother.to have himself registered together with Mary, who was betrothed to him and was with child.to be inscribed in the census roll with Mary who was betrothed to him [as his] wife, she being great with child.
Luke 2:6And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.But while they were there, her full time came,And it came to pass, while they were there, the days of her giving birth [to her child] were fulfilled,
Luke 2:7And she had her first son; and folding him in linen, she put him to rest in the place where the cattle had their food, because there was no room for them in the house.and she gave birth to her first-born son, and wrapped Him round, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.and she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him up in swaddling-clothes and laid him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:8And in the same country there were keepers of sheep in the fields, watching over their flock by night.Now there were shepherds in the same part of the country, keeping watch over their sheep by night in the open fields,And there were shepherds in that country abiding without, and keeping watch by night over their flock.
Luke 2:9And an angel of the Lord came to them, and the glory of the Lord was shining round about them: and fear came on them.when suddenly an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round them; and they were filled with terror.And lo, an angel of [the] Lord was there by them, and [the] glory of [the] Lord shone around them, and they feared [with] great fear.
Luke 2:10And the angel said, Have no fear; for truly, I give you good news of great joy which will be for all the people:But the angel said to them, "Put away all fear; for I am bringing you good news of great joy joy for all the People.And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I announce to you glad tidings of great joy, which shall be to all the people;
Luke 2:11For on this day, in the town of David, a Saviour has come to birth, who is Christ the Lord.For a Saviour who is the Anointed Lord is born to you to-day, in the town of David.for to-day a Saviour has been born to you in David's city, who is Christ [the] Lord.
Luke 2:12And this is the sign to you: you will see a young child folded in linen, in the place where the cattle have their food.And this is the token for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."And this is the sign to you: ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling-clothes, and lying in a manger.
Luke 2:13And suddenly there was with the angel a great band of spirits from heaven, giving praise to God, and saying,And immediately there was with the angel a multitude of the army of Heaven praising God and saying,And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
Luke 2:14Glory to God in the highest, and on the earth peace among men with whom he is well pleased."Glory be to God in the highest Heavens, And on earth peace among men who please Him!"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good pleasure in men.
Luke 2:15And when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the keepers of the sheep said to one another, Let us go now to Beth-lehem, and see this thing which has come about, which the Lord has made clear to us.Then, as soon as the angels had left them and returned to Heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go over as far as Bethlehem and see this that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us."And it came to pass, as the angels departed from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, Let us make our way then now as far as Bethlehem, and let us see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.
Luke 2:16And they came quickly, and saw Mary and Joseph, and the child in the place where the cattle had their food.So they made haste and came and found Mary and Joseph, with the babe lying in the manger.And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger;
Luke 2:17And when they saw it, they gave them an account of the things which had been said to them about the child.And when they saw the child, they told what had been said to them about Him;and having seen [it] they made known about the country the thing which had been said to them concerning this child.
Luke 2:18And all those to whose ears it came were full of wonder at the things said by the keepers of the sheep.and all who listened were astonished at what the shepherds told them.And all who heard [it] wondered at the things said to them by the shepherds.
Luke 2:19But Mary kept all these words in her heart, and gave much thought to them.But Mary treasured up all these things, often dwelling on them in her mind.But Mary kept all these things [in her mind], pondering [them] in her heart.
Luke 2:20Then the keepers of the sheep went back, giving glory and praise to God for all the things which had come to their ears and which they had seen, as it had been said to them.And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen in accordance with the announcement made to them.And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all things which they had heard and seen, as it had been said to them.
Luke 2:21And when, after eight days, the time came for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name which the angel had given to him before his birth.When eight days had passed and the time for circumcising Him had come, He was called JESUS, the name given Him by the angel before His conception in the womb.And when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, his name was called Jesus, which was the name given by the angel before he had been conceived in the womb.
Luke 2:22And when the necessary days for making them clean by the law of Moses had come to an end, they took him to Jerusalem to give him to the LordAnd when the days for their purification appointed by the Law of Moses had passed, they took Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the LordAnd when the days were fulfilled for their purifying according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem to present [him] to the Lord
Luke 2:23(As it says in the law of the Lord, Every mother's first male child is to be holy to the Lord),as it is written in the Law of the Lord: "Every first-born male shall be called holy to the Lord."(as it is written in the law of [the] Lord: Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord),
Luke 2:24And to make an offering, as it is ordered in the law of the Lord, of two doves or other young birds.And they also offered a sacrifice as commanded in the Law of the Lord, "a pair of turtle doves or two young pigeons."and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of [the] Lord: A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.
Luke 2:25And there was then in Jerusalem a man whose name was Simeon; and he was an upright man, fearing God and waiting for the comfort of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was on him.Now there was a man in Jerusalem of the name of Symeon, an upright and God-fearing man, who was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was just and pious, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and [the] Holy Spirit was upon him.
Luke 2:26And he had knowledge, through the Holy Spirit, that he would not see death till he had seen the Lord's Christ.To him it had been revealed by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death until he had seen the Lord's Anointed One.And it was divinely communicated to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death before he should see [the] Lord's Christ.
Luke 2:27And full of the Spirit he came into the Temple; and when the father and mother came in with the child Jesus, to do with him what was ordered by the law,Led by the Spirit he came to the Temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do with regard to Him according to the custom of the Law,And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and as the parents brought in the child Jesus that they might do for him according to the custom of the law,
Luke 2:28Then he took him in his arms and gave praise to God and said,he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said,*he* received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Luke 2:29Now you are letting your servant go in peace, O Lord, as you have said;"Now, O Sovereign Lord, Thou dost send Thy servant away in peace, in fulfilment of Thy word,Lord, now thou lettest thy bondman go, according to thy word, in peace;
Luke 2:30For my eyes have seen your salvation,Because mine eyes have seen Thy salvation,for mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Luke 2:31Which you have made ready before the face of all nations;Which Thou hast made ready in the sight of all nationswhich thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples;
Luke 2:32A light of revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.A light to shine upon the Gentiles, And the glory of Thy people Israel."a light for revelation of [the] Gentiles and [the] glory of thy people Israel.
Luke 2:33And his father and mother were full of wonder at the things which were said about him.And while the child's father and mother were wondering at the words of Symeon concerning Him,And his father and mother wondered at the things which were said concerning him.
Luke 2:34And Simeon gave them his blessing and said to Mary, his mother, See, this child will be the cause of the downfall and the lifting up of great numbers of people in Israel, and he will be a sign against which hard words will be said;Symeon blessed them and said to Mary the mother, "This child is appointed for the falling and the uprising of many in Israel and for a token to be spoken against;And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Lo, this [child] is set for the fall and rising up of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against;
Luke 2:35(And a sword will go through your heart;) so that the secret thoughts of men may come to light.and a sword will pierce through your own soul also; that the reasonings in many hearts may be revealed."(and even a sword shall go through thine own soul;) so that [the] thoughts may be revealed from many hearts.
Luke 2:36And there was one, Anna, a woman prophet, the daughter of Phanuel, of the family of Asher (she was very old, and after seven years of married lifeThere was also Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, belonging to the tribe of Asher. She was of a very great age, having had after her maidenhood seven years of married life,And there was a prophetess, Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of [the] tribe of Asher, who was far advanced in years, having lived with [her] husband seven years from her virginity,
Luke 2:37She had been a widow for eighty-four years); she was in the Temple at all times, worshipping with prayers and going without food, night and day.and then being a widow of eighty-four years. She was never absent from the Temple, but worshipped, by day and by night, with fasting and prayer.and herself a widow up to eighty-four years; who did not depart from the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers;
Luke 2:38And coming up at that time, she gave praise to God, talking of him to all those who were waiting for the freeing of Jerusalem.And coming up just at that moment, she gave thanks to God, and spoke about the child to all who were expecting the deliverance of Jerusalem.and she coming up the same hour gave praise to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who waited for redemption in Jerusalem.
Luke 2:39And when they had done all the things which were ordered by the law of the Lord, they went back to Galilee, to Nazareth, the town where they were living.Then, as soon as they had accomplished all that the Law required, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.And when they had completed all things according to the law of [the] Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own city Nazareth.
Luke 2:40And the child became tall and strong and full of wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.And the child grew and became strong and full of wisdom, and the favour of God rested upon Him.And the child grew and waxed strong [in spirit], filled with wisdom, and God's grace was upon him.
Luke 2:41And every year his father and mother went to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.Now His parents used to go up year by year to Jerusalem at the Feast of the Passover.And his parents went yearly to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.
Luke 2:42And when he was twelve years old, they went up, as their way was, to the feast;And when He was twelve years old they went up as was customary at the time of the Feast, and,And when he was twelve years old, and they went up [to Jerusalem] according to the custom of the feast
Luke 2:43And when the days of the feast came to an end and they were going back, the boy Jesus was still in Jerusalem, but they had no knowledge of it:after staying the full number of days, when they started back home the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not discover this,and had completed the days, as they returned, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and his parents knew not [of it];
Luke 2:44And in the belief that he was with some of their number, they went a day's journey; and after looking for him among their relations and friends,but supposing Him to be in the travelling company, they proceeded a day's journey. Then they searched up and down for Him among their relatives and acquaintances;but, supposing him to be in the company that journeyed together, they went a day's journey, and sought him among their relations and acquaintances:
Luke 2:45And seeing that he was not there, they went back to Jerusalem, to make search for him.but being unable to find Him they returned to Jerusalem, making anxious inquiry for Him.and not having found him they returned to Jerusalem seeking him.
Luke 2:46And after three days they came across him in the Temple, seated among the wise men, giving ear to their words and putting questions to them.On the third day they found Him in the Temple sitting among the Rabbis, both listening to them and asking them questions,And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers and hearing them and asking them questions.
Luke 2:47And all to whose ears it came were full of wonder at his knowledge and the answers which he gave.while all who heard Him were astonished at His intelligence and at the answers He gave.And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
Luke 2:48And when they saw him they were surprised, and his mother said to him, Son, why have you done this to us? see, your father and I have been looking for you with sorrow.When they saw Him, they were smitten with amazement, and His mother said to Him, "My child, why have you behaved thus to us? Your father and I have been searching for you in anguish."And when they saw him they were amazed: and his mother said to him, Child, why hast thou dealt thus with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee distressed.
Luke 2:49And he said to them, Why were you looking for me? was it not clear to you that my right place was in my Father's house?"Why is it that you have been searching for me?" He replied; "did you not know that it is my duty to be engaged upon my Father's business?"And he said to them, Why [is it] that ye have sought me? did ye not know that I ought to be [occupied] in my Father's business?
Luke 2:50And his words seemed strange to them.But they did not understand the significance of these words.And they understood not the thing that he said to them.
Luke 2:51And he went down with them and came to Nazareth; and did as he was ordered: and his mother kept all these words in her heart.Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was always obedient to them; but His mother carefully treasured up all these incidents in her memory.And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and he was in subjection to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.
Luke 2:52And Jesus was increasing in wisdom and in years, and in grace before God and men.And as Jesus grew older He gained in both wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.
