Matthew 16:1 | And the Pharisees and Sadducees came and, testing him, made a request to him to give them a sign from heaven. | Here the Pharisees and Sadducees came to Him; and, to make trial of Him, they asked Him to show them a sign in the sky. | The Pharisees also and the Sadducees came, and, tempting, desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven. |
Matthew 16:2 | But in answer he said to them, At nightfall you say, The weather will be good, for the sky is red. | He replied, "In the evening you say, `It will be fine weather, for the sky is red;' | He answered and said to them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. |
Matthew 16:3 | And in the morning, The weather will be bad today, for the sky is red and angry. You are able to see the face of heaven, but not the signs of the times. | and in the morning, `It will be rough weather to-day, for the sky is red and murky.' You learn how to distinguish the aspect of the heavens, but the signs of the times you cannot. | And in the morning, It will be foul weather to-day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? |
Matthew 16:4 | An evil and false generation is searching after a sign; and no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah. And he went away from them. | A wicked and faithless generation are eager for a sign; but none shall be given to them except the sign of Jonah." and He left them and went away. | A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign; and there shall no sign been to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them, and departed. |
Matthew 16:5 | And when the disciples came to the other side they had not taken thought to get bread. | When the disciples arrived at the other side of the Lake, they found that they had forgotten to bring any bread; | And when his disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. |
Matthew 16:6 | And Jesus said to them, Take care to have nothing to do with the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. | and when Jesus said to them, "See to it: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees," | Then Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. |
Matthew 16:7 | And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, We took no bread. | they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have not brought any bread." | And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. |
Matthew 16:8 | And Jesus, seeing it, said, O you of little faith, why are you reasoning among yourselves, because you have no bread? | Jesus perceived this and said, "Why are you reasoning among yourselves, you men of little faith, because you have no bread? | Which when Jesus perceived, he said to them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? |
Matthew 16:9 | Do you still not see, or keep in mind the five cakes of bread of the five thousand, and the number of baskets you took up? | Do you not yet understand? nor even remember the 5,000 and the five loaves, and how many basketfuls you carried away, | Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? |
Matthew 16:10 | Or the seven cakes of bread of the four thousand, and the number of baskets you took up? | nor the 4,000 and the seven loaves, and how many hampers you carried away? | Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? |
Matthew 16:11 | How is it that you do not see that I was not talking to you about bread, but about keeping away from the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees? | How is it you do not understand that it was not about bread that I spoke to you? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees." | How is it that ye do not understand that I spoke not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees? |
Matthew 16:12 | Then they saw that it was not the leaven of bread which he had in mind, but the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. | Then they perceived that He had not warned them against bread-yeast, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. | Then they understood that he did not caution them against the leaven of bread, but against the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. |

Matthew 16:14 | And they said, Some say, John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. | "Some say John the Baptist," they replied; "others Elijah; others Jeremiah or one of the Prophets." | And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. |
Matthew 16:15 | He says to them, But who do you say that I am? | "But you, who do you say that I am?" He asked again. | He saith to them, But who say ye that I am? |
Matthew 16:16 | And Simon Peter made answer and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. | "You," replied Simon Peter, "are the Christ, the Son of the ever-living God." | And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. |
Matthew 16:17 | And Jesus made answer and said to him, A blessing on you, Simon Bar-jonah: because this knowledge has not come to you from flesh and blood, but from my Father in heaven. | "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-jonah," said Jesus; "for mere human nature has not revealed this to you, but my Father in Heaven. | And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon-Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. |
Matthew 16:18 | And I say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock will my church be based, and the doors of hell will not overcome it. | And I declare to you that you are Peter, and that upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the might of Hades shall not triumph over it. | And I say also to thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. |
Matthew 16:19 | I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever is fixed by you on earth will be fixed in heaven: and whatever you make free on earth will be made free in heaven. | I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of the Heavens; and whatever you bind on earth shall remain bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall remain loosed in Heaven." | And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever thou shalt bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven; and whatever thou shalt loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven. |
Matthew 16:20 | Then he gave orders to the disciples to give no man word that he was the Christ. | Then He urged His disciples to tell no one that He was the Christ. | Then he charged his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. |
Matthew 16:21 | From that time Jesus went on to make clear to his disciples how he would have to go up to Jerusalem, and undergo much at the hands of those in authority and the chief priests and scribes, and be put to death, and the third day come again from the dead. | From this time Jesus began to explain to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer much cruelty from the Elders and the High Priests and the Scribes, and be put to death, and on the third day be raised to life again. | From that time forth Jesus began to show to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. |
Matthew 16:22 | And Peter, protesting, said to him, Be it far from you, Lord; it is impossible that this will come about. | Then Peter took Him aside and began taking Him to task. "Master," he said, "God forbid; this will not be your lot." | Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be to thee. |
Matthew 16:23 | But he, turning to Peter, said, Get out of my way, Satan: you are a danger to me because your mind is not on the things of God, but on the things of men. | But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Adversary; you are a hindrance to me, because your thoughts are not God's thoughts, but men's." | But he turned, and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offense to me: for thou savorest not the things that are of God, but those that are of men. |
Matthew 16:24 | Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any man would come after me, let him give up all, and take up his cross, and come after me. | Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If any one desires to follow me, let him renounce self and take up his cross, and so be my follower. | Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. |
Matthew 16:25 | Because whoever has a desire to keep his life safe will have it taken from him; but whoever gives up his life because of me, will have it given back to him. | For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake shall find it. | For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whoever will lose his life for my sake, shall find it. |
Matthew 16:26 | For what profit has a man, if he gets all the world with the loss of his life? or what will a man give in exchange for his life? | Why, what benefit will it be to a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give to buy back his life? | For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? |
Matthew 16:27 | For the Son of man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he will give to every man the reward of his works. | For the Son of Man is soon to come in the glory of the Father with His angels, and then will He requite every man according to his actions. | For the Son of man will come in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he will reward every man according to his works. |
Matthew 16:28 | Truly I say to you, There are some of those here who will not have a taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. | I solemnly tell you that some of those who are standing here will certainly not taste death till they have seen the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom." | Verily I say to you, There are some standing here, who shall not taste death, till they shall see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. |
