| Judges 1:1 | Now after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel made request to the Lord, saying, Who is to go up first to make war for us against the Canaanites? | | It happened after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, Who shall go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them? |
| Judges 1:2 | And the Lord said, Judah is to go up: see, I have given the land into his hands. | | Yahweh said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand. |
| Judges 1:3 | Then Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my heritage, so that we may make war against the Canaanites; and I will then go with you into your heritage.
