Acts 10:1Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, named Cornelius, the captain of the Italian band of the army;Now a Captain of the Italian Regiment, named Cornelius, was quartered at Caesarea.And there was a certain man in Cesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a band called Italian,
Acts 10:2A serious-minded man, fearing God with all his family; he gave much money to the poor, and made prayer to God at all times.He was religious and God-fearing and so was every member of his household. He was also liberal in his charities to the people, and continually offered prayer to God.pious, and fearing God with all his house, doing also many kind acts to the people, and beseeching God always,
Acts 10:3He saw in a vision, clearly, at about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of the Lord coming to him and saying to him, Cornelius!About three o'clock one afternoon he had a vision, and distinctly saw an angel of God enter his house, who called him by name, saying, "Cornelius!"he saw in a vision manifestly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, `Cornelius;`
Acts 10:4And he, looking on him in fear, said, What is it, Lord? And he said to him, Your prayers and your offerings have come up to God, and he has kept them in mind.Looking steadily at him, and being much alarmed, he said, "What do you want, Sir?" "Your prayers and charities," he replied, "have gone up and have been recorded before God.and he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, `What is it, Lord?` And he said to him, `Thy prayers and thy kind acts came up for a memorial before God,
Acts 10:5Now send men to Joppa, and get one Simon, named Peter,And now send to Jaffa and fetch Simon, surnamed Peter.and now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter,
Acts 10:6Who is living with Simon, a leather-worker, whose house is by the sea.He is staying as a guest with Simon, a tanner, who has a house close to the sea."this one doth lodge with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one shall speak to thee what it behoveth thee to do.`
Acts 10:7And when the angel who said these words to him had gone away, he sent for two of his house-servants, and a God-fearing man of the army, one of those who were waiting on him at all times;So when the angel who had been speaking to him was gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a God-fearing soldier who was in constant attendance on him,And when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his domestics, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,
Acts 10:8And having given them an account of everything, he sent them to Joppa.and, after telling them everything, he sent them to Jaffa.and having declared to them all things, he sent them to Joppa.
Acts 10:9Now the day after, when they were on their journey and were near the town, Peter went up to the top of the house for prayer, about the sixth hour:The next day, while they were still on their journey and were getting near the town, about noon Peter went up on the house-top to pray.And on the morrow, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing nigh to the city, Peter went up upon the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour,
Acts 10:10And he was in need of food: but while they were getting it ready, a deep sleep came on him;He had become unusually hungry and wished for food; but, while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance.and he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell upon him a trance,
Acts 10:11And he saw the heavens opening, and a vessel coming down, like a great cloth let down on the earth,The sky had opened to his view, and what seemed to be an enormous sail was descending, being let down to the earth by ropes at the four corners.and he doth behold the heaven opened, and descending unto him a certain vessel, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down upon the earth,
Acts 10:12In which were all sorts of beasts and birds.In it were all kinds of quadrupeds, reptiles and birds,in which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the heaven,
Acts 10:13And a voice came to him, saying, Come, Peter; take them for food.and a voice came to him which said, "Rise, Peter, kill and eat."and there came a voice unto him: `Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.`
Acts 10:14But Peter said, No, Lord; for I have never taken food which is common or unclean."On no account, Lord," he replied; "for I have never yet eaten anything unholy and impure."And Peter said, `Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean;`
Acts 10:15And the voice came to him a second time, What God has made clean, do not you make common.Again a second time a voice was heard which said, "What God has purified, you must not regard as unholy."and [there is] a voice again a second time unto him: `What God did cleanse, thou, declare not thou common;`
Acts 10:16And this was done three times: and then the vessel was taken back into heaven.This was said three times, and immediately the sail was drawn up out of sight.and this was done thrice, and again was the vessel received up to the heaven.
Acts 10:17Now while Peter was in doubt as to the purpose of this vision, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made search for Simon's house, came to the door,While Peter was greatly perplexed as to the meaning of the vision which he had seen, just then the men sent by Cornelius, having by inquiry found out Simon's house,And as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, lo, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,
Acts 10:18To see if Simon, named Peter, was living there.had come to the door and had called the servant, and were asking, "Is Simon, surnamed Peter, staying here?"and having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, doth lodge here?
Acts 10:19And, while Peter was turning the vision over in his mind, the Spirit said to him, See, three men are looking for you.And Peter was still earnestly thinking over the vision, when the Spirit said to him, "Three men are now inquiring for you.And Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, `Lo, three men do seek thee;
Acts 10:20Go down, then, and go with them, doubting nothing, for I have sent them.Rise, go down, and go with them without any misgivings; for it is I who have sent them to you."but having risen, go down and go on with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them;`
Acts 10:21And Peter went down to the men, and said, I am the man you are looking for: why have you come?So Peter went down and said to the men, "I am the Simon you are inquiring for. What is the reason of your coming?"and Peter having come down unto the men who have been sent from Cornelius unto him, said, `Lo, I am he whom ye seek, what [is] the cause for which ye are present?`
Acts 10:22And they said, Cornelius, a captain, an upright and God-fearing man, respected by all the nation of the Jews, had word from God by an angel to send for you to his house, and to give hearing to your words.Their reply was, "Cornelius, a Captain, an upright and God-fearing man, of whom the whole Jewish nation speaks well, has been divinely instructed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and listen to what you have to say."And they said, `Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for thee, to his house, and to hear sayings from thee.`
Acts 10:23So he took them in for the night. And the day after, he went with them, taking some of the brothers from Joppa with him.Upon hearing this, Peter invited them in, and gave them a lodging. The next day he set out with them, some of the brethren from Jaffa going with him,Having called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the morrow Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him,
Acts 10:24And the day after that, they came to Caesarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having got together his relations and his near friends.and the day after that they reached Caesarea. There Cornelius was awaiting their arrival, and had invited all his relatives and intimate friends to be present.and on the morrow they did enter into Cesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kindred and near friends,
Acts 10:25And when Peter came in, Cornelius came to him and, falling down at his feet, gave him worship.When Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him, and threw himself at his feet to do him homage.and as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at [his] feet, did bow before [him];
Acts 10:26But Peter, lifting him up, said, Get up, for I am a man as you are.But Peter lifted him up. "Stand up," he said; "I myself also am but a man."and Peter raised him, saying, `Stand up; I also myself am a man;`
Acts 10:27And saying these words, he went in, and saw that a great number of people had come together;So Peter went in and conversed with him, and found a large company assembled.and talking with him he went in, and doth find many having come together.
Acts 10:28And he said to them, You yourselves have knowledge that it is against the law for a man who is a Jew to be in the company of one who is of another nation; but God has made it clear to me that no man may be named common or unclean:He said to them, "You know better than most that a Jew is strictly forbidden to associate with a Gentile or visit him; but God has taught me to call no one unholy or unclean.And he said unto them, `Ye know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come unto, one of another race, but to me God did shew to call no man common or unclean;
Acts 10:29And so I came without question, when I was sent for. What then is your purpose in sending for me?So for this reason, when sent for, I came without raising any objection. I therefore ask why you sent for me."therefore also without gainsaying I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter ye did send for me?`
Acts 10:30And Cornelius said, Four days from now I was in my house in prayer at the ninth hour; and I saw before me a man in shining clothing,"Just at this hour, three days ago," replied Cornelius, "I was offering afternoon prayer in my house, when suddenly a man in shining raiment stood in front of me,And Cornelius said, `Four days ago till this hour, I was fasting, and [at] the ninth hour praying in my house, and, lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
Acts 10:31Who said, Cornelius, your prayer has come to the ears of God, and your offerings are kept in his memory.who said, "`Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your charities have been put on record before God.and he said, Cornelius, thy prayer was heard, and thy kind acts were remembered before God;
Acts 10:32Send, then, to Joppa, and get Simon, named Peter, to come to you; he is living in the house of Simon, a leather-worker, by the sea.Send therefore to Jaffa, and invite Simon, surnamed Peter, to come here. He is staying as a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, close to the sea.'send, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one doth lodge in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, shall speak to thee;
Acts 10:33So, straight away, I sent for you; and you have done well to come. And now, we are all present before God, ready to give attention to all the things which the Lord has given you to say."Immediately, therefore, I sent to you, and I thank you heartily for having come. That is why all of us are now assembled here in God's presence, to listen to what the Lord has commanded you to say."at once, therefore, I sent to thee; thou also didst do well, having come; now, therefore, are we all before God present to hear all things that have been commanded thee by God.`
Acts 10:34Then Peter said, Truly, I see clearly that God is no respecter of persons:Then Peter began to speak. "I clearly see," he said, "that God makes no distinctions between one man and another;And Peter having opened his mouth, said, `Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons,
Acts 10:35But in every nation, the man who has fear of him and does righteousness is pleasing to him.but that in every nation those who fear Him and live good lives are acceptable to Him.but in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;
Acts 10:36The word which he sent to the children of Israel, giving the good news of peace through Jesus Christ (who is Lord of all)The Message which He sent to the descendants of Israel, when He announced the Good News of peace through Jesus Christ He is Lord of all that Message you cannot but know;the word that he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news peace through Jesus Christ (this one is Lord of all,)
Acts 10:37That word you yourselves have knowledge of, which was made public through all Judaea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism of which John was the preacher,the story, I mean, which has spread through the length and breadth of Judaea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism which John proclaimed.ye ye have known; the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism that John preached;
Acts 10:38About Jesus of Nazareth, how God gave the Holy Spirit to him, with power: and how he went about doing good and making well all who were troubled by evil spirits, for God was with him.It tells how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, so that He went about everywhere doing acts of kindness, and curing all who were being continually oppressed by the Devil for God was with Jesus.Jesus who [is] from Nazareth how God did anoint him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the devil, because God was with him;
Acts 10:39And we are witnesses of all the things which he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they put to death, hanging him on a tree."And we are witnesses as to all that He did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. But they even put Him to death, by crucifixion.and we we are witnesses of all things that he did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem, whom they did slay, having hanged upon a tree.
Acts 10:40On the third day God gave him back to life, and let him be seen,That same Jesus God raised to life on the third day, and permitted Him to appear unmistakably,`This one God did raise up the third day, and gave him to become manifest,
Acts 10:41Not by all the people, but by witnesses marked out before by God, even by us, who took food and drink with him after he came back from the dead.not to all the people, but to witnesses men previously chosen by God namely, to us, who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead.not to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God to us who did eat with [him], and did drink with him, after his rising out of the dead;
Acts 10:42And he gave us orders to give news of this to the people, and to give public witness that this is he whom God has made judge of the living and the dead.And He has commanded us to preach to the people and solemnly declare that this is He who has been appointed by God to be the Judge of the living and the dead.and he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify fully that it is he who hath been ordained by God judge of living and dead
Acts 10:43To him all the prophets give witness, that through his name everyone who has faith in him will have forgiveness of sins.To Him all the Prophets bear witness, and testify that through His name all who believe in Him receive the forgiveness of their sins."to this one do all the prophets testify, that through his name every one that is believing in him doth receive remission of sins.`
Acts 10:44While Peter was saying these words, the Holy Spirit came on all those who were hearing the word.While Peter was speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all who were listening to the Message.While Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy spirit fell upon all those hearing the word,
Acts 10:45And the Jews of the faith, who had come with Peter, were full of wonder, because the Holy Spirit was given to the Gentiles,And all the Jewish believers who had come with Peter were astonished that on the Gentiles also the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out.and those of the circumcision believing were astonished as many as came with Peter because also upon the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit hath been poured out,
Acts 10:46And they were talking in tongues, and giving glory to God. Then Peter said,For they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling the majesty of God. Then Peter said,for they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.
Acts 10:47Will any man say that these may not have baptism who have been given the Holy Spirit as we have?"Can any one forbid the use of water, and object to these persons being baptized men who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?"Then answered Peter, `The water is any one able to forbid, that these may not be baptized, who the Holy Spirit did receive even as also we?`
Acts 10:48And he gave orders for them to have baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they kept him with them for some days.And he directed that they should be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they begged him to remain with them for a time.he commanded them also to be baptized in the name of the Lord; then they besought him to remain certain days.
