Acts 6:1Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was increasing, protests were made by the Greek Jews against the Hebrews, because their widows were not taken care of in the distribution of food every day.About this time, as the number of disciples was increasing, complaints were made by the Greek-speaking Jews against the Hebrews because their widows were habitually overlooked in the daily ministration.And in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came a murmuring of the Hellenists at the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily ministration,
Acts 6:2And the Apostles sent for all the disciples and said, It is not right for us to give up preaching the word of God in order to make distribution of food.So the Twelve called together the general body of the disciples and said, "It does not seem fitting that we Apostles should neglect the delivery of God's Message and minister at tables.and the twelve, having called near the multitude of the disciples, said, `It is not pleasing that we, having left the word of God, do minister at tables;
Acts 6:3Take then from among you seven men of good name, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, to whom we may give control of this business.Therefore, brethren, pick out from among yourselves seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, and we will appoint them to undertake this duty.look out, therefore, brethren, seven men of you who are well testified of, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may set over this necessity,
Acts 6:4Then we will give all our time to prayer and the teaching of the word.But, as for us, we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the delivery of the Message."and we to prayer, and to the ministration of the word, will give ourselves continually.`
Acts 6:5And this saying was pleasing to all of them: and they made selection of Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolas of Antioch, who had become a Jew:The suggestion met with general approval, and they selected Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch.And the thing was pleasing before all the multitude, and they did choose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,
Acts 6:6These they took to the Apostles, who, after prayer, put their hands on them.These men they brought to the Apostles, and, after prayer, they laid their hands upon them.whom they did set before the apostles, and they, having prayed, laid on them [their] hands.
Acts 6:7And the word of God was increasing in power; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem became very great, and a great number of priests were in agreement with the faith.Meanwhile God's Message continued to spread, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem very greatly increased, and very many priests obeyed the faith.And the word of God did increase, and the number of the disciples did multiply in Jerusalem exceedingly; a great multitude also of the priests were obedient to the faith.
Acts 6:8And Stephen, full of grace and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.And Stephen, full of grace and power, performed great marvels and signs among the people.And Stephen, full of faith and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people,
Acts 6:9But some of those who were of the Synagogue named that of the Libertines, and some of the men of Cyrene and of Alexandria and those from Cilicia and Asia, had arguments with Stephen.But some members of the so-called `Synagogue of the Freed-men,' together with some Cyrenaeans, Alexandrians, Cilicians and men from Roman Asia, were roused to encounter Stephen in debate.and there arose certain of those of the synagogue, called of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia, and Asia, disputing with Stephen,
Acts 6:10But they were not able to get the better of him, for his words were full of wisdom and of the Spirit.They were quite unable, however, to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.and they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit with which he was speaking;
Acts 6:11Then they got men to say, He has said evil against Moses and against God, in our hearing.Then they privately put forward men who declared, "We have heard him speak blasphemous things against Moses and against God."then they suborned men, saying `We have heard him speaking evil sayings in regard to Moses and God.`
Acts 6:12And the people, with the rulers and the scribes, were moved against him, and they came and took him before the Sanhedrin,In this way they excited the people, the Elders, and the Scribes. At length they came upon him, seized him with violence, and took him before the Sanhedrin.They did stir up also the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and having come upon [him], they caught him, and brought [him] to the sanhedrim;
Acts 6:13And they got false witnesses who said, This man is for ever saying things against this holy place and against the law:Here they brought forward false witnesses who declared, "This fellow is incessantly speaking against the Holy Place and the Law.they set up also false witnesses, saying, `This one doth not cease to speak evil sayings against this holy place and the law,
Acts 6:14For he has said in our hearing that this Jesus of Nazareth will put this place to destruction and make changes in the rules which were handed down to us by Moses.For we have heard him say that Jesus, the Nazarene, will pull this place down to the ground and will change the customs which Moses handed down to us."for we have heard him saying, That this Jesus the Nazarean shall overthrow this place, and shall change the customs that Moses delivered to us;`
Acts 6:15And all those who were in the Sanhedrin, looking at him, saw that his face was like the face of an angel.At once the eyes of all who were sitting in the Sanhedrin were fastened on him, and they saw his face looking just like the face of an angel.and gazing at him, all those sitting in the sanhedrim saw his face as it were the face of a messenger.
