Genesis 40:1Now after these things the chief servant who had the care of the wine, and the chief bread-maker in Pharaoh's house, did something against Pharaoh's orders;And it cometh to pass, after these things the butler of the king of Egypt and the baker have sinned against their lord, against the king of Egypt;
Genesis 40:2And Pharaoh was angry with his two servants, with the chief wine-servant and the chief bread-maker;and Pharaoh is wroth against his two eunuchs, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers,
Genesis 40:3And he put them in prison under the care of the captain of the army, in the same prison where Joseph himself was shut up.and giveth them in charge in the house of the chief of the executioners, unto the round-house, the place where Joseph [is] a prisoner,
Genesis 40:4And the captain put them in Joseph's care, and he did what was needed for them; and they were kept in prison for some time.and the chief of the executioners chargeth Joseph with them, and he serveth them; and they are days in charge.
Genesis 40:5And these two had a dream on the same night; the chief wine-servant and the chief bread-maker of the king of Egypt, who were in prison, the two of them had dreams with a special sense.And they dream a dream both of them, each his dream in one night, each according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker whom the king of Egypt hath, who [are] prisoners in the round-house.
Genesis 40:6And in the morning when Joseph came to them he saw that they were looking sad.And Joseph cometh in unto them in the morning, and seeth them, and lo, they [are] morose;
Genesis 40:7And he said to the servants of Pharaoh who were in prison with him, Why are you looking so sad?and he asketh Pharaoh`s eunuchs who [are] with him in charge in the house of his lord, saying, `Wherefore [are] your faces sad to-day?`
Genesis 40:8Then they said to him, We have had a dream, and no one is able to give us the sense. And Joseph said, Does not the sense of dreams come from God? what was your dream?And they say unto him, `A dream we have dreamed, and there is no interpreter of it;` and Joseph saith unto them, `Are not interpretations with God? recount, I pray you, to me.`
Genesis 40:9Then the chief wine-servant gave Joseph an account of his dream, and said, In my dream I saw a vine before me;And the chief of the butlers recounteth his dream to Joseph, and saith to him, `In my dream, then lo, a vine [is] before me!
Genesis 40:10And on the vine were three branches; and it seemed as if it put out buds and flowers, and from them came grapes ready for cutting.and in the vine [are] three branches, and it [is] as it were flourishing; gone up hath its blossom, its clusters have ripened grapes;
Genesis 40:11And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and crushing them into Pharaoh's cup, gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.and Pharaoh`s cup [is] in my hand, and I take the grapes and press them into the cup of Pharaoh, and I give the cup into the hand of Pharaoh.`
Genesis 40:12Then Joseph said, This is the sense of your dream: the three branches are three days;And Joseph saith to him, `This [is] its interpretation: the three branches are three days;
Genesis 40:13After three days Pharaoh will give you honour, and put you back into your place, and you will give him his cup as you did before, when you were his wine-servant.yet, within three days doth Pharaoh lift up thy head, and hath put thee back on thy station, and thou hast given the cup of Pharaoh into his hand, according to the former custom when thou wast his butler.
Genesis 40:14But keep me in mind when things go well for you, and be good to me and say a good word for me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison:`Surely if thou hast remembered me with thee, when it is well with thee, and hast done (I pray thee) kindness with me, and hast made mention of me unto Pharaoh, then hast thou brought me out from this house,
Genesis 40:15For truly I was taken by force from the land of the Hebrews; and I have done nothing for which I might be put in prison.for I was really stolen from the land of the Hebrews; and here also have I done nothing that they have put me in the pit.`
Genesis 40:16Now when the chief bread-maker saw that the first dream had a good sense, he said to Joseph, I had a dream; and in my dream there were three baskets of white bread on my head;And the chief of the bakers seeth that he hath interpreted good, and he saith unto Joseph, `I also [am] in a dream, and lo, three baskets of white bread [are] on my head,
Genesis 40:17And in the top basket were all sorts of cooked meats for Pharaoh; and the birds were taking them out of the baskets on my head.and in the uppermost basket [are] of all [kinds] of Pharaoh`s food, work of a baker; and the birds are eating them out of the basket, from off my head.`
Genesis 40:18Then Joseph said, This is the sense of your dream: the three baskets are three days;And Joseph answereth and saith, `This [is] its interpretation: the three baskets are three days;
Genesis 40:19After three days Pharaoh will take you out of prison, hanging you on a tree, so that your flesh will be food for birds.yet, within three days doth Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and hath hanged thee on a tree, and the birds have eaten thy flesh from off thee.`
Genesis 40:20Now the third day was Pharaoh's birthday, and he gave a feast for all his servants; and he gave honour to the chief wine-servant and the chief bread-maker among the others.And it cometh to pass, on the third day, Pharaoh`s birthday, that he maketh a banquet to all his servants, and lifteth up the head of the chief of the butlers, and the head of the chief of the bakers among his servants,
Genesis 40:21And he put the chief wine-servant back in his old place; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.and he putteth back the chief of the butlers to his butlership, and he giveth the cup into the hand of Pharaoh;
Genesis 40:22But the chief bread-maker was put to death by hanging, as Joseph had said.and the chief of the bakers he hath hanged, as Joseph hath interpreted to them;
Genesis 40:23But the wine-servant did not keep Joseph in mind or give a thought to him.and the chief of the butlers hath not remembered Joseph, but forgetteth him.
