Joel 2:1Let the horn be sounded in Zion, and a war-cry in my holy mountain; let all the people of the land be troubled: for the day of the Lord is coming;Blow ye a trumpet in Zion, And shout ye in My holy hill, Tremble do all inhabitants of the earth, For coming is the day of Jehovah, for [it is] near!
Joel 2:2For a day of dark and deep shade is near, a day of cloud and black night: like a black cloud a great and strong people is covering the mountains; there has never been any like them and will not be after them again, from generation to generation.A day of darkness and thick darkness, A day of cloud and thick darkness, As darkness spread on the mountains, A people numerous and mighty, Like it there hath not been from of old, And after it there is not again till the years of generation and generation.
Joel 2:3Before them fire sends destruction, and after them flame is burning: the land is like the garden of Eden before them, and after them an unpeopled waste; truly, nothing has been kept safe from them. Before it consumed hath fire, And after it burn doth a flame, As the garden of Eden [is] the land before it, And after it a wilderness a desolation! And also an escape there hath not been to it,
Joel 2:4Their form is like the form of horses, and they are running like war-horses.As the appearance of horses [is] its appearance, And as horsemen, so they run.
Joel 2:5Like the sound of war-carriages they go jumping on the tops of the mountains; like the noise of a flame of fire burning up the grain-stems, like a strong people lined up for the fight. As the noise of chariots, on the tops of the mountains they skip, As the noise of a flame of fire devouring stubble, As a mighty people set in array for battle.
Joel 2:6At their coming the people are bent with pain: all faces become red together. From its face pained are peoples, All faces have gathered paleness.
Joel 2:7They are running like strong men, they go over the wall like men of war; every man goes straight on his way, their lines are not broken. As mighty ones they run, As men of war they go up a wall, And each in his own ways they do go, And they embarrass not their paths.
Joel 2:8No one is pushing against another; everyone goes straight on his way: bursting through the sword points, their order is not broken. And each his brother they press not, Each in his way they go on, If by the missile they fall, they are not cut off.
Joel 2:9They make a rush on the town, running on the wall; they go up into the houses and in through the windows like a thief. In the city they run to and fro, On the wall they run, Into houses they go up by the windows, They go in as a thief.
Joel 2:10The earth is troubled before them and the heavens are shaking: the sun and the moon have become dark, and the stars keep back their shining:At their face trembled hath the earth, Shaken have the heavens, Sun and moon have been black, And stars have gathered up their shining.
Joel 2:11And the Lord is thundering before his forces; for very great is his army; for he is strong who gives effect to his word: for the day of the Lord is great and greatly to be feared, and who has strength against it?And Jehovah hath given forth His voice before His force, For very great [is] His camp, For mighty [is] the doer of His word, For great [is] the day of Jehovah very fearful, And who doth bear it?
Joel 2:12But even now, says the Lord, come back to me with all your heart, keeping from food, with weeping and with sorrow:And also now an affirmation of Jehovah, Turn ye back unto Me with all your heart, And with fasting, and with weeping, And with lamentation.
Joel 2:13Let your hearts be broken, and not your clothing, and come back to the Lord your God: for he is full of grace and pity, slow to be angry and great in mercy, ready to be turned from his purpose of punishment. And rend your heart, and not your garments, And turn back unto Jehovah your God, For gracious and merciful [is] He, Slow to anger, and abundant in kindness, And He hath repented concerning the evil.
Joel 2:14May it not be that he will again let his purpose be changed and let a blessing come after him, even a meal offering and a drink offering for the Lord your God?Who knoweth He doth turn back, Yea He hath repented, And He hath left behind Him a blessing, A present and libation of Jehovah your God?
Joel 2:15Let a horn be sounded in Zion, let a time be fixed for going without food, have a holy meeting:Blow ye a trumpet in Zion, Sanctify a fast proclaim a restraint.
Joel 2:16Get the people together, make the mass of the people holy, send for the old men, get together the children and babies at the breast: let the newly married man come out of his room and the bride from her tent.Gather the people, sanctify an assembly, Assemble the aged, Gather infants and sucklings of the breasts, Go out let a bridegroom from his inner chamber, And a bride out of her closet.
Joel 2:17Let the priests, the servants of the Lord, be weeping between the covered way and the altar, and let them say, Have mercy on your people, O Lord, do not give up your heritage to shame, so that the nations become their rulers: why let them say among the peoples, Where is their God?Between the porch and the altar weep let the priests, ministrants of Jehovah, And let them say: `Have pity, O Jehovah, on Thy people, And give not Thy inheritance to reproach, To the ruling over them of nations, Why do they say among peoples, Where [is] their God?`
Joel 2:18Then the Lord had a care for the honour of his land and had pity on his people. And let Jehovah be zealous for His land, And have pity on His people.
Joel 2:19And the Lord made answer and said to his people, See, I will send you grain and wine and oil in full measure: and I will no longer let you be shamed among the nations:Let Jehovah answer and say to His people, `Lo, I am sending to you the corn, And the new wine, and the oil, And ye have been satisfied with it, And I make you no more a reproach among nations,
Joel 2:20I will send the one from the north far away from you, driving him into a dry and waste land, with his front to the sea of the east and his back to the sea of the west, and the smell of him will go up, even his evil smell will go up.And the northern I put far off from you, And have driven him unto a land dry and desolate, With his face unto the eastern sea, And his rear unto the western sea, And come up hath his stink, And come up doth his stench, For he hath exerted himself to work.
Joel 2:21Have no fear, O land; be glad with great joy; for the Lord has done great things.Do not fear, O land! joy and rejoice, For Jehovah hath exerted Himself to work.
Joel 2:22Have no fear, you beasts of the field, for the grass-lands of the waste are becoming green, for the trees are producing fruit, the fig-tree and the vine give out their strength.Do not fear, O cattle of the field! For sprung forth have pastures of a wilderness, For the tree hath borne its fruit, Fig-tree and vine have given their strength!
Joel 2:23Be glad, then, you children of Zion, and have joy in the Lord your God: for he gives you food in full measure, making the rain come down for you, the early and the late rain as at the first. And ye sons of Zion, joy and rejoice, In Jehovah your God, For He hath given to you the Teacher for righteousness, And causeth to come down to you a shower, Sprinkling and gathered in the beginning.
Joel 2:24And the floors will be full of grain, and the crushing-places overflowing with wine and oil.And full have been the floors [with] pure corn, And overflown have the presses [with] new wine and oil.
Joel 2:25I will give back to you the years which were food for the locust, the plant-worm, the field-fly, and the worm, my great army which I sent among you.And I have recompensed to you the years That consume did the locust, the cankerworm, And the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, My great force that I did send against you.
Joel 2:26You will have food in full measure, and give praise to the name of the Lord your God, who has done wonders for you:And ye have eaten, eating and being satisfied, And have praised the name of Jehovah your God, Who hath dealt with you wonderfully, And not ashamed are My people to the age.
Joel 2:27And you will be certain that I am in Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and there is no other: and my people will never be shamed. And ye have known that in the midst of Israel [am] I, And I [am] Jehovah your God, and there is none else, And not ashamed are My people to the age.
Joel 2:28And after that, it will come about, says the Lord, that I will send my spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will be prophets, your old men will have dreams, your young men will see visions:And it hath come to pass afterwards, I do pour out My Spirit on all flesh, And prophesied have your sons and your daughters, Your old men do dream dreams, Your young men do see visions.
Joel 2:29And on the servants and the servant-girls in those days I will send my spirit. And also on the men-servants, and on the maid-servants, In those days I do pour out My Spirit.
Joel 2:30And I will let wonders be seen in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and pillars of smoke. And I have given wonders in the heavens, and in the earth, Blood and fire, and columns of smoke.
Joel 2:31The sun will be made dark and the moon turned to blood, before the great day of the Lord comes, a day to be feared. The sun is turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, Before the coming of the day of Jehovah, The great and the fearful.
Joel 2:32And it will be that whoever makes his prayer to the name of the Lord will be kept safe: for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem some will be kept safe, as the Lord has said, and will be among the small band marked out by the Lord. And it hath come to pass, Every one who calleth in the name of Jehovah is delivered, For in mount Zion and in Jerusalem there is an escape, As Jehovah hath said, And among the remnants whom Jehovah is calling!
