Matthew 8:1 | And when he had come down from the mountain, great numbers of people came after him. | Upon descending from the hill country He was followed by immense crowds. | And when he came down from the mount, great multitudes did follow him, |
Matthew 8:2 | And a leper came and gave him worship, saying, Lord, if it is your pleasure, you have power to make me clean. | And a leper came to Him, and throwing himself at His feet, said, "Sir, if only you are willing you are able to cleanse me." | and lo, a leper having come, was bowing to him, saying, `Sir, if thou art willing, thou art able to cleanse me;` |
Matthew 8:3 | And he put his hand on him, saying, It is my pleasure; be clean. And straight away he was made clean. | So Jesus put out His hand and touched him, and said, "I am willing: be cleansed." Instantly he was cleansed from his leprosy; | and having stretched forth the hand, Jesus touched him, saying, `I will, be thou cleansed,` and immediately his leprosy was cleansed. |
Matthew 8:4 | And Jesus said to him, See that you say nothing about this to anyone; but go and let the priest see you and make the offering which was ordered by Moses, for a witness to them. | and Jesus said to him, "Be careful to tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses appointed as evidence for them." | And Jesus saith to him, `See, thou mayest tell no one, but go, thyself shew to the priest, and bring the gift that Moses commanded for a testimony to them.` |
Matthew 8:5 | And when Jesus was come into Capernaum, a certain captain came to him with a request, | After His entry into Capernaum a Captain came to Him, and entreated Him. | And Jesus having entered into Capernaum, there came to him a centurion calling upon him, |
Matthew 8:6 | Saying, Lord, my servant is ill in bed at the house, with no power in his body, and in great pain. | "Sir," he said, "my servant at home is lying ill with paralysis, and is suffering great pain." | and saying, `Sir, my young man hath been laid in the house a paralytic, fearfully afflicted,` |
Matthew 8:7 | And he said to him, I will come and make him well. | "I will come and cure him," said Jesus. | and Jesus saith to him, `I, having come, will heal him.` |
Matthew 8:8 | And the captain in answer said, Lord, I am not good enough for you to come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be made well. | "Sir," replied the Captain, "I am not a fit person to receive you under my roof: merely say the word, and my servant will be cured. | And the centurion answering said, `Sir, I am not worthy that thou mayest enter under my roof, but only say a word, and my servant shall be healed; |
Matthew 8:9 | Because I myself am a man under authority, having under me fighting men; and I say to this one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it. | For I myself am also under authority, and have soldiers under me. To one I say `Go,' and he goes, to another `Come,' and he comes, and to my slave `Do this or that,' and he does it." | for I also am a man under authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth, and to another, Be coming, and he cometh, and to my servant, Do this, and he doth [it].` |
Matthew 8:10 | And when these words came to the ears of Jesus he was surprised, and said to those who came after him, Truly I say to you, I have not seen such great faith, no, not in Israel. | Jesus listened to this reply, and was astonished, and said to the people following Him, "I solemnly tell you that in no Israelite have I found faith as great as this. | And Jesus having heard, did wonder, and said to those following, `Verily I say to you, not even in Israel so great faith have I found; |
Matthew 8:11 | And I say to you that numbers will come from the east and the west, and will take their seats with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven: | And I tell you that many will come from the east and from the west and will recline at table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Kingdom of the Heavens, | and I say to you, that many from east and west shall come and recline (at meat) with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the reign of the heavens, |
Matthew 8:12 | But the sons of the kingdom will be put out into the dark, and there will be weeping and cries of pain. | while the natural heirs of the Kingdom will be driven out into the darkness outside: there will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth." | but the sons of the reign shall be cast forth to the outer darkness there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.` |
Matthew 8:13 | And Jesus said to the captain, Go in peace; as your faith is, so let it be done to you. And the servant was made well in that hour. | And Jesus said to the Captain, "Go, and just as you have believed, so be it for you." And the servant recovered precisely at that time. | And Jesus said to the centurion, `Go, and as thou didst believe let it be to thee;` and his young man was healed in that hour. |
Matthew 8:14 | And when Jesus had come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother in bed, very ill. | After this Jesus went to the house of Peter, whose mother-in-law he found ill in bed with fever. | And Jesus having come into the house of Peter, saw his mother-in-law laid, and fevered, |
Matthew 8:15 | And he put his hand on hers and the disease went from her, and she got up and took care of his needs. | He touched her hand and the fever left her: and then she rose and waited upon Him. | and he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she arose, and was ministering to them. |
Matthew 8:16 | And in the evening, they took to him a number of people who had evil spirits; and he sent the spirits out of them with a word, and made well all who were ill; | In the evening many demoniacs were brought to Him, and with a word He expelled the demons; and He cured all the sick, | And evening having come, they brought to him many demoniacs, and he did cast out the spirits with a word, and did heal all who were ill, |
Matthew 8:17 | So that the word of Isaiah the prophet might come true: He himself took our pains and our diseases. | in order that this prediction of the Prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled, "He took on Him our weaknesses, and bore the burden of our diseases." | that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, `Himself took our infirmities, and the sicknesses he did bear.` |
Matthew 8:18 | Now when Jesus saw a great mass of people about him, he gave an order to go to the other side. | Seeing great crowds about Him Jesus had given directions to cross to the other side of the Lake, | And Jesus having seen great multitudes about him, did command to depart to the other side; |
Matthew 8:19 | And there came a scribe and said to him, Master, I will come after you wherever you go. | when a Scribe came and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." | and a certain scribe having come, said to him, `Teacher, I will follow thee wherever thou mayest go;` |
Matthew 8:20 | And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of heaven have a resting-place; but the Son of man has nowhere to put his head. | "Foxes have holes," replied Jesus, "and birds have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." | and Jesus saith to him, `The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven places of rest, but the Son of Man hath not where he may lay the head.` |
Matthew 8:21 | And another of the disciples said to him, Lord, let me first go and give the last honours to my father. | Another of the disciples said to Him, "Sir, allow me first to go and bury my father." | And another of his disciples said to him, `Sir, permit me first to depart and to bury my father;` |
Matthew 8:22 | But Jesus said to him, Come after me; and let the dead take care of their dead. | "Follow me," said Jesus, "and leave the dead to bury their own dead." | and Jesus said to him, `Follow me, and suffer the dead to bury their own dead.` |
Matthew 8:23 | And when he had got into a boat, his disciples went after him. | Then He went on board a fishing-boat, and His disciples followed Him. | And when he entered into the boat his disciples did follow him, |
Matthew 8:24 | And there came up a great storm in the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was sleeping. | But suddenly there arose a great storm on the Lake, so that the waves threatened to engulf the boat; but He was asleep. | and lo, a great tempest arose in the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves, but he was sleeping, |
Matthew 8:25 | And they came to him, and, awaking him, said, Help, Lord; destruction is near. | So they came and woke Him, crying, "Master, save us, we are drowning!" | and his disciples having come to him, awoke him, saying, `Sir, save us; we are perishing.` |
Matthew 8:26 | And he said to them, Why are you full of fear, O you of little faith? Then he got up and gave orders to the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. | "Why are you so easily frightened," He replied, "you men of little faith?" Then He rose and reproved the winds and the waves, and there was a perfect calm; | And he saith to them, `Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?` Then having risen, he rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm; |
Matthew 8:27 | And the men were full of wonder, saying, What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea do his orders? | and the men, filled with amazement, exclaimed, "What kind of man is this? for the very winds and waves obey him!" | and the men wondered, saying, `What kind is this, that even the wind and the sea do obey him?` |
Matthew 8:28 | And when he had come to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, there came out to him from the place of the dead, two who had evil spirits, so violent that no man was able to go that way. | On His arrival at the other side, in the country of the Gadarenes, there met Him two men possessed by demons, coming from among the tombs: they were so dangerously fierce that no one was able to pass that way. | And he having come to the other side, to the region of the Gergesenes, there met him two demoniacs, coming forth out of the tombs, very fierce, so that no one was able to pass over by that way, |
Matthew 8:29 | And they gave a loud cry, saying, What have we to do with you, you Son of God? Have you come here to give us punishment before the time? | They cried aloud, "What hast Thou to do with us, Thou Son of God? Hast Thou come here to torment us before the time?" | and lo, they cried out, saying, `What to us and to thee, Jesus, Son of God? didst thou come hither, before the time, to afflict us?` |
Matthew 8:30 | Now there was, some distance away, a great herd of pigs taking their food. | Now at some distance from them a vast herd of swine were feeding. | And there was far off from them a herd of many swine feeding, |
Matthew 8:31 | And the evil spirits made strong prayers to him, saying, If you send us out, let us go into the herd of pigs. | So the demons entreated Him. "If Thou drivest us out," they said, "send us into the herd of swine." | and the demons were calling on him, saying, `If thou dost cast us forth, permit us to go away to the herd of the swine;` |
Matthew 8:32 | And he said to them, Go. And they came out, and went into the pigs; and the herd went rushing down a sharp slope into the sea and came to their end in the water. | "Go," He replied. Then they came out from the men and went into the swine, whereupon the entire herd instantly rushed down the cliff into the Lake and perished in the water. | and he saith to them, `Go.` And having come forth, they went to the herd of the swine, and lo, the whole herd of the swine rushed down the steep, to the sea, and died in the waters, |
Matthew 8:33 | And their keepers went in flight to the town and gave an account of everything, and of the men who had the evil spirits. | The swineherds fled, and went and told the whole story in the town, including what had happened to the demoniacs. | and those feeding did flee, and, having gone to the city, they declared all, and the matter of the demoniacs. |
Matthew 8:34 | And all the town came out to Jesus; and seeing him they made request that he would go away from their part of the country. | So at once the whole population came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they besought Him to leave their country. | And lo, all the city came forth to meet Jesus, and having seen him, they called on [him] that he might depart from their borders. |
