Jude 1:1 | Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and the brother of James, to those of God's selection who have been made holy by God the Father and are kept safe for Jesus Christ: | Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ: | Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James: To those who are in God the Father, enfolded in His love, and kept for Jesus Christ, and called. |
Jude 1:2 | May mercy and peace and love be increased in you. | Mercy to you and peace and love be multiplied. | May mercy, peace and love be abundantly granted to you. |
Jude 1:3 | My loved ones, while my thoughts were full of a letter which I was going to send you about our common salvation, it was necessary for me to send you one requesting you with all my heart to go on fighting strongly for the faith which has been given to the saints once and for ever. | Beloved, while I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I was constrained to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. | Dear friends, since I am eager to begin a letter to you on the subject of our common salvation, I find myself constrained to write and cheer you on to the vigorous defense of the faith delivered once for all to God's people. |
Jude 1:4 | For certain men have come among you secretly, marked out before in the holy Writings for this evil fate, men without the fear of God, turning his grace into an unclean thing, and false to our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. | For there are certain men who crept in secretly, even they who were of old written of beforehand to this condemnation: ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying our only Master, God, and Lord, Jesus Christ. | For certain persons have crept in unnoticed men spoken of in ancient writings as pre-destined to this condemnation ungodly men, who pervert the grace of our God into an excuse for immorality, and disown Jesus Christ, our only Sovereign and Lord. |
Jude 1:5 | Now it is my purpose to put you in mind, though you once had knowledge of all these things, of how the Lord, having taken a people safely out of Egypt, later sent destruction on those who had no faith; | Now I desire to remind you, though you already know this, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who didn't believe. | I desire to remind you although the whole matter is already familiar to you that the Lord saved a people out of the land of Egypt, but afterwards destroyed those who had no faith. |
Jude 1:6 | And the angels who did not keep to their kingdom but went out from the place which was theirs, he has put in eternal chains and in dark night till the great day of the judging. | Angels who didn't keep their first domain, but deserted their own dwelling place, he has kept in everlasting bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day. | And angels those who did not keep the position originally assigned to them, but deserted their own proper abode He reserves in everlasting bonds, in darkness, in preparation for the judgement of the great day. |
Jude 1:7 | Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the towns near them, having like these, given themselves up to unclean desires and gone after strange flesh, have been made an example, undergoing the punishment of eternal fire. | Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them, having, in the same way as these, given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire. | So also Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns in the same manner having been guilty of gross fornication and having gone astray in pursuit of unnatural vice, are now before us as a specimen of the fire of the Ages in the punishment which they are undergoing. |
Jude 1:8 | In the same way these dreamers make the flesh unclean, having no respect for authorities, and say evil of rulers. | Yet in like manner these also in their dreaming defile the flesh, despise authority, and slander celestial beings. | Yet in just the same way these dreamers also pollute the body, while they set authority at naught and speak evil of dignities. |
Jude 1:9 | Now when Michael, one of the chief angels, was fighting against the Evil One for the body of Moses, fearing to make use of violent words against him, he only said, May the Lord be your judge. | But Michael, the archangel, when contending with the devil and arguing about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him an abusive condemnation, but said, "May the Lord rebuke you!" | But Michael the Archangel, when contending with the Devil and arguing with him about the body of Moses, did not dare to pronounce judgement on him in abusive terms, but simply said, "The Lord rebuke you." |
Jude 1:10 | But these men say evil about such things as they have no knowledge of; and the things of which they have natural knowledge, like beasts without reason, are the cause of their destruction. | But these speak evil of whatever things they don't know. What they understand naturally, like the creatures without reason, in these things are they destroyed. | Yet these men are abusive in matters of which they know nothing, and in things which, like the brutes, they understand instinctively in all these they corrupt themselves. |
Jude 1:11 | A curse on them! They have gone in the way of Cain, running uncontrolled into the error of Balaam for reward, and have come to destruction by saying evil against the Lord, like Korah. | Woe to them! For they went in the way of Cain, and ran riotously in the error of Balaam for hire, and perished in Korah's rebellion. | Alas for them; for they have followed in the steps of Cain; for the sake of gain they have rushed on headlong in the evil ways of Balaam; and have perished in rebellion like that of Korah! |
Jude 1:12 | These men are unseen rocks at your love-feasts, when they take part in them with you, keepers of sheep who without fear take the food of the sheep; clouds without water rushing before the wind, wasted trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots, | These are hidden rocky reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you, shepherds who without fear feed themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn leaves without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; | These men sunken rocks! are those who share the pleasure of your love-feasts, unrestrained by fear while caring only for themselves; clouds without water, driven away by the winds; trees that cast their fruit, barren, doubly dead, uprooted; |
Jude 1:13 | Violent waves of the sea, streaming with their shame, wandering stars for whom the darkest night is kept in store for ever. | wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved forever. | wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom is reserved dense darkness of age-long duration. |
Jude 1:14 | The prophet Enoch, who was the seventh after Adam, said of these men, The Lord came with tens of thousands of his saints, | To these also Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Behold, the Lord came with ten thousands of his holy ones, | It was also about these that Enoch, who belonged to the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, "The Lord has come, attended by myriads of His people, to execute judgement upon all, |
Jude 1:15 | To be the judge of all, and to give a decision against all those whose lives are unpleasing to him, because of the evil acts which they have done, and because of all the hard things which sinners without fear of God have said against him. | to execute judgment on all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their works of ungodliness which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him." | and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly deeds which in their ungodliness they have committed, and of all the hard words which they, ungodly sinners as they are, have spoken against Him." |
Jude 1:16 | These are the men who make trouble, ever desiring change, going after evil pleasures, using high-sounding words, respecting men's position in the hope of reward. | These are murmurers and complainers, walking after their lusts (and their mouth speaks proud things), showing respect of persons for the sake of advantage. | These men are murmurers, ever bemoaning their lot. Their lives are guided by their evil passions, and their mouths are full of big, boastful words, while they treat individual men with admiring reverence for the sake of the advantage they can gain. |
Jude 1:17 | But you, my loved ones, keep in memory the words which were said before by the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, | But you, beloved, remember the words which have been spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. | But as for you, my dearly-loved friends, remember the words that before now were spoken by the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ |
Jude 1:18 | How they said to you, In the last days there will be men who, guided by their evil desires, will make sport of holy things. | They said to you that "In the last time there will be mockers, walking after their own ungodly lusts." | how they declared to you, "In the last times there shall be scoffers, obeying only their own ungodly passions." |
Jude 1:19 | These are the men who make divisions, natural men, not having the Spirit. | These are they who cause divisions, and are sensual, not having the Spirit. | These are those who cause divisions. They are men of the world, wholly unspiritual. |
Jude 1:20 | But you, my loved ones, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, and making prayers in the Holy Spirit, | But you, beloved, keep building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. | But you, my dearly-loved friends, building yourselves up on the basis of your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, |
Jude 1:21 | Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for life eternal through the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. | Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. | must keep yourselves safe in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ which will result in the Life of the Ages. |
Jude 1:22 | And have pity on those who are in doubt; | On some have compassion, making a distinction, | Some, when they argue with you, you must endeavor to convince; |
Jude 1:23 | And to some give salvation, pulling them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the clothing which is made unclean by the flesh. | and some save, snatching them out of the fire with fear, hating even the clothing stained by the flesh. | others you must try to save, as brands plucked from the flames; and on others look with pity mingled with fear, while you hate every trace of their sin. |
Jude 1:24 | Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to give you a place in his glory, free from all evil, with great joy, | Now to him who is able to keep them from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory in great joy, | But to Him who is able to keep you safe from stumbling, and cause you to stand in the presence of His glory free from blemish and full of exultant joy |
Jude 1:25 | To the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, let us give glory and honour and authority and power, before all time and now and for ever. So be it. | to God our Savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen. | to the only God our Saviour through Jesus Christ our Lord, be ascribed glory, majesty, might, and authority, as it was before all time, is now, and shall be to all the Ages! Amen. |
