Luke 19:1And he went into Jericho, and when he was going through it,He entered and was passing through Jericho. So He entered Jericho and was passing through the town.
Luke 19:2A man, named Zacchaeus, who was the chief tax-farmer, and a man of wealth,There was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. There was a man there called Zacchaeus, who was the local surveyor of taxes, and was wealthy.
Luke 19:3Made an attempt to get a view of Jesus, and was not able to do so, because of the people, for he was a small man.He was trying to see who Jesus was, and couldn't because of the crowd, because he was short. He was anxious to see what sort of man Jesus was; but he could not because of the crowd, for he was short in stature.
Luke 19:4And he went quickly in front of them and got up into a tree to see him, for he was going that way.He ran on ahead, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way.So he ran on in front and climbed up a mulberry tree to see Him; for He was about to pass that way.
Luke 19:5And when Jesus came to the place, looking up, he said to him, Zacchaeus, be quick and come down, for I am coming to your house today. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house."As soon as Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for I must stay at your house to-day."
Luke 19:6And he came down quickly, and took him into his house with joy.He hurried, came down, and received him joyfully. So he came down in haste, and welcomed Him joyfully.
Luke 19:7And when they saw it, they were all angry, saying, He has gone into the house of a sinner. When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, "He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner."When they all saw this, they began to complain with indignation. "He has gone in to be the guest of a notorious sinner!" they said.
Luke 19:8And Zacchaeus, waiting before him, said to the Lord, See, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from anyone wrongly, I give him back four times as much.Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much."Zacchaeus however stood up, and addressing the Lord said, "Here and now, Master, I give half my property to the poor, and if I have unjustly exacted money from any man, I pledge myself to repay to him four times the amount."
Luke 19:9And Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, for even he is a son of Abraham.Jesus said to him, "Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.Turning towards him, Jesus replied, "To-day salvation has come to this house, seeing that he too is a son of Abraham.
Luke 19:10For the Son of man came to make search for those who are wandering from the way, and to be their Saviour. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost."For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."
Luke 19:11And while they were giving ear to these words, he made another story for them, because he was near Jerusalem, and because they were of the opinion that the kingdom of God was coming straight away.As they heard these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that the kingdom of God would be revealed immediately. As they were listening to His words, He went on to teach them by a parable, because He was near to Jerusalem and they supposed that the Kingdom of God was going to appear immediately.
Luke 19:12So he said, A certain man of high birth went into a far-away country to get a kingdom for himself, and to come back.He said therefore, "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. So He said to them, "A man of noble family travelled to a distant country to obtain the rank of king, and to return.

Luke 19:14But his people had no love for him, and sent representatives after him, saying, We will not have this man for our ruler. But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, 'We don't want this man to reign over us.'"Now his countrymen hated him, and sent a deputation after him to say, `We are not willing that he should become our king.'
Luke 19:15And when he came back again, having got his kingdom, he gave orders for those servants to whom he had given the money to come to him, so that he might have an account of what business they had done.It happened, when he had come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business. And upon his return, after he had obtained the sovereignty, he ordered those servants to whom he had given the money to be summoned before him, that he might learn their success in trading.

Luke 19:22He said to him, By the words of your mouth you will be judged, you bad servant. You had knowledge that I am a hard man, taking up what I have not put down and getting in grain where I have not put seed;He said to him, 'Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn't lay down, and reaping that which I didn't sow."`By your own words,' he replied, `I will judge you, you bad servant.
