1st-Kings 1:1Now King David was old and far on in years; and though they put covers over him, his body was cold.And king David [is] old, entering into days, and they cover him with garments, and he hath no heat,Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.
1st-Kings 1:2So his servants said to him, Let search be made for a young virgin for my lord the king, to take care of him and be waiting on him; and you may take her in your arms, and so my lord the king will be warm.and his servants say to him, `Let them seek for my lord the king a young woman, a virgin, and she hath stood before the king, and is to him a companion, and hath lain in thy bosom, and my lord the king hath heat.`Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and cherish him; and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.
1st-Kings 1:3So after searching through all the land of Israel for a fair young girl, they saw Abishag the Shunammite, and took her to the king.And they seek a fair young woman in all the border of Israel, and find Abishag the Shunammite, and bring her in to the king,So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
1st-Kings 1:4Now she was very beautiful; and she took care of the king, waiting on him at all times; but the king had no connection with her.and the young woman [is] very very fair, and she is to the king a companion, and serveth him, and the king hath not known her.And the damsel was very fair; and she cherished the king, and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.
1st-Kings 1:5Then Adonijah, the son of Haggith, lifting himself up in pride, said, I will become king; and he made ready his carriages of war and his horsemen, with fifty runners to go before him.And Adonijah son of Haggith is lifting himself up, saying, `I do reign;` and he prepareth for himself a chariot and horsemen, and fifty men running before him,Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.
1st-Kings 1:6Now all his life his father had never gone against him or said to him, Why have you done so? and he was a very good-looking man, and younger than Absalom.and his father hath not grieved him [all] his days, saying, `Wherefore thus hast thou done?` and he also [is] of a very good form, and [his mother] bare him after Absalom.And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he was also a very goodly man; and he was born after Absalom.
1st-Kings 1:7And he had talk with Joab, the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest; and they were on his side and gave him their support.And his words are with Joab son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest, and they help after Adonijah;And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.
1st-Kings 1:8But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet and Shimei and Rei, and David's men of war did not take the side of Adonijah.and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty ones whom David hath, have not been with Adonijah.But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men that belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.
1st-Kings 1:9Then Adonijah put to death sheep and oxen and fat beasts by the stone of Zoheleth, by En-rogel; and he sent for all his brothers, the king's sons, and all the men of Judah, the king's servants, to come to him:And Adonijah sacrificeth sheep and oxen and fatlings near the stone of Zoheleth, that [is] by En-Rogel, and calleth all his brethren, sons of the king, and for all the men of Judah, servants of the king;And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En-rogel; and he called all his brethren, the king's sons, and all the men of Judah, the king's servants:
1st-Kings 1:10But he did not send for Nathan the prophet and Benaiah and the other men of war and Solomon his brother.and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty ones, and Solomon his brother, he hath not called.but Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.
1st-Kings 1:11Then Nathan said to Bath-sheba, the mother of Solomon, Has it not come to your ears that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, has made himself king without the knowledge of David our lord?And Nathan speaketh unto Bath-Sheba, mother of Solomon, saying, `Hast thou not heard that Adonijah son of Haggith hath reigned, and our lord David hath not known?Then Nathan spake unto Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?
1st-Kings 1:12So now, let me make a suggestion, so that you may keep your life safe and the life of your son Solomon.and now, come, let me counsel thee, I pray thee, and deliver thy life, and the life of thy son Solomon;Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
1st-Kings 1:13Come now, go to King David and say to him, Did you not, O my lord, take an oath to me, your servant, saying, Truly Solomon your son will be king after me, seated on the seat of my kingdom? why then is Adonijah acting as king?go and enter in unto king David, and thou hast said unto him, Hast thou not, my lord, O king, sworn to thy handmaid, saying, Surely Solomon thy son doth reign after me, and he doth sit on my throne? and wherefore hath Adonijah reigned?Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thy handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?
1st-Kings 1:14And while you are still talking there with the king, see, I will come in after you and say that your story is true.Lo, thou are yet speaking there with the king, and I come in after thee, and have completed thy words.`Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.
1st-Kings 1:15Then Bath-sheba went into the king's room; now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was waiting on him.And Bath-Sheba cometh in unto the king, to the inner chamber, and the king [is] very aged, and Abishag the Shunammite is serving the king:And Bath-sheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering unto the king.
1st-Kings 1:16And Bath-sheba went down on her face on the earth before the king giving him honour. And he said, What is your desire?and Bath-Sheba boweth and doth obeisance to the king, and the king saith, `What to thee?`And Bath-sheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou?
1st-Kings 1:17And she said to him, My lord, you took an oath by the Lord your God and gave your word to your servant, saying, Truly, Solomon your son will be king after me, seated on the seat of my kingdom.And she saith to him, `My lord, thou hast sworn by Jehovah thy God to thy handmaid: Surely Solomon thy son doth reign after me, and he doth sit on my throne;And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by Jehovah thy God unto thy handmaid, [saying], Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.
1st-Kings 1:18And now, see, Adonijah has made himself king without my lord's knowledge;and now, lo, Adonijah hath reigned, and now, my lord, O king, thou hast not known;And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and thou, my lord the king, knowest it not:
1st-Kings 1:19And has put to death oxen and fat beasts and sheep in great numbers, and has sent for all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab, the captain of the army; but he has not sent for Solomon your servant.and he sacrificeth ox, and fatling, and sheep in abundance, and calleth for all the sons of the king, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab head of the host and for Solomon thy servant he hath not called.and he hath slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host; but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.
1st-Kings 1:20And now, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, waiting for you to say who is to take the place of my lord the king after him.And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel [are] on thee, to declare to them who doth sit on the throne of my lord the king after him;And thou, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
1st-Kings 1:21For as things are, it will come about, when my lord the king is sleeping with his fathers, that I and Solomon my son will be made outlaws.and it hath been, when my lord the king lieth with his fathers, that I have been, I and my son Solomon [reckoned] sinners.`Otherwise it will come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.
1st-Kings 1:22And while she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.And lo, she is yet speaking with the king, and Nathan the prophet hath come in;And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.
1st-Kings 1:23And they said to the king, Here is Nathan the prophet. And when he came in before the king, he went down on his face on the earth.and they declare to the king, saying, `Lo, Nathan the prophet;` and he cometh in before the king, and boweth himself to the king, on his face to the earth.And they told the king, saying, Behold, Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.
1st-Kings 1:24And Nathan said, O my lord king, have you said, Adonijah is to be king after me, seated on the seat of my kingdom?And Nathan saith, `My lord, O king, thou hast said, Adonijah doth reign after me, and he doth sit on my throne;And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?
1st-Kings 1:25Because today he has gone down and has put to death oxen and fat beasts and sheep in great numbers, and has sent for all the king's sons to come to him, with the captains of the army and Abiathar the priest; and they are feasting before him and crying, Long life to King Adonijah!for he hath gone down to-day, and doth sacrifice ox, and fatling, and sheep, in abundance, and calleth for all the sons of the king, and for the heads of the host, and for Abiathar the priest, and lo, they are eating and drinking before him, and they say, Let king Adonijah live!For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and say, [Long] live king Adonijah.
1st-Kings 1:26But me, your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon, he has not sent for.`And for me me, thy servant, and for Zadok the priest, and for Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, and for Solomon thy servant, he hath not called;But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called.
1st-Kings 1:27Has this thing been done by my lord the king, without giving word to your servants who was to be placed on my lord the king's seat after him?if from my lord the king this thing hath been, then thou hast not caused thy servant to know who doth sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.`Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not showed unto thy servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
1st-Kings 1:28Then King David in answer said, Send for Bath-sheba to come to me. And she came in and took her place before the king.And king David answereth and saith, `Call for me for Bath-Sheba;` and she cometh in before the king, and standeth before the king.Then king David answered and said, Call to me Bath-sheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.
1st-Kings 1:29And the king took an oath, and said, By the living Lord, who has been my saviour from all my troubles,And the king sweareth and saith, `Jehovah liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity;And the king sware, and said, As Jehovah liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,
1st-Kings 1:30As I took an oath to you by the Lord, the God of Israel, saying, Certainly Solomon your son will become king after me, seated on my seat in my place; so will I do this day.surely as I sware to thee by Jehovah, God of Israel, saying, Surely Solomon thy son doth reign after me, and he doth sit on my throne in my stead; surely so I do this day.`verily as I sware unto thee by Jehovah, the God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; verily so will I do this day.
1st-Kings 1:31Then Bath-sheba went down on her face on the earth before the king giving him honour, and said, May my lord King David go on living for ever.And Bath-Sheba boweth face to the earth and doth obeisance to the king, and saith, `Let my lord, king David, live to the age.`Then Bath-sheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did obeisance to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.
1st-Kings 1:32And King David said, Send for Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.And king David saith, `Call for me for Zadok the priest, and for Nathan the prophet, and for Benaiah son of Jehoiada;` and they come in before the king.And king David said, Call to me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.
1st-Kings 1:33And the king said to them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and put Solomon my son on my beast, yes, mine, and take him down to Gihon;And the king saith to them, `Take with you the servants of your lord, and ye have caused Solomon my son to ride on mine own mule, and caused him to go down unto Gihon,And the king said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:
1st-Kings 1:34And there let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet put the holy oil on him to make him king over Israel; and sounding the horn say, Long life to King Solomon!and anointed him there hath Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet for king over Israel, and ye have blown with a trumpet, and said, Let king Solomon live;and let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel; and blow ye the trumpet, and say, [Long] live king Solomon.
1st-Kings 1:35Then come up after him and he will come in and take his place on the seat of my kingdom; for he is to be king in my place, and I have given orders that he is to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.and ye have come up after him, and he hath come in and hath sat on my throne, and he doth reign in my stead, and him I have appointed to be leader over Israel, and over Judah.`Then ye shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead; and I have appointed him to be prince over Israel and over Judah.
1st-Kings 1:36And Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, answering the king, said, So be it: and may the Lord, the God of my lord the king, say so.And Benaiah son of Jehoiada answereth the king, and saith, `Amen! so doth Jehovah, God of my lord the king, say;And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: Jehovah, the God of my lord the king, say so [too].
1st-Kings 1:37As the Lord has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon and make the seat of his authority greater than that of my lord King David.as Jehovah hath been with my lord the king, so is He with Solomon, and doth make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.`As Jehovah hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.
1st-Kings 1:38So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, went down and put Solomon on King David's beast and took him to Gihon.And Zadok the priest goeth down, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethite, and the Pelethite, and they cause Solomon to ride on the mule of king David, and cause him to go unto Gihon,So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.
1st-Kings 1:39And Zadok the priest took the vessel of oil out of the Tent, and put the holy oil on Solomon. And when the horn was sounded, all the people said, Long life to King Solomon!and Zadok the priest taketh the horn of oil out of the tent, and anointeth Solomon, and they blow with a trumpet, and all the people say, `Let king Solomon live.`And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the Tent, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, [Long] live king Solomon.
1st-Kings 1:40And all the people came up after him, piping with pipes, and they were glad with great joy, so that the earth was shaking with the sound.And all the people come up after him, and the people are piping with pipes, and rejoicing great joy, and the earth rendeth with their voice.And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.
1st-Kings 1:41And it came to the ears of Adonijah and all the guests who were with him, when their meal was ended. And Joab, hearing the sound of the horn, said, What is the reason of this noise as if the town was worked up?And Adonijah heareth, and all those called, who [are] with him, and they have finished to eat, and Joab heareth the noise of the trumpet, and saith, `Wherefore [is] the noise of the city roaring?`And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar?
1st-Kings 1:42And while the words were on his lips, Jonathan, the son of Abiathar the priest, came; and Adonijah said, Come in; for you are a man of good faith and the news which you have for us will be good.He is yet speaking, and lo, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest hath come in, and Adonijah saith, `Come in, for a man of valour thou [art], and thou bearest good tidings.`While he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonijah said, Come in; for thou art a worthy man, and bringest good tidings.
1st-Kings 1:43And Jonathan, answering, said to Adonijah, Not so, but our lord King David has made Solomon king:And Jonathan answereth and saith to Adonijah, `Verily our lord king David hath caused Solomon to reign,And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king:
1st-Kings 1:44And he sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and they put him on the king's beast:and the king sendeth with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethite, and the Pelethite, and they cause him to ride on the king`s mule,and the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule;
1st-Kings 1:45And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet put the holy oil on him and made him king in Gihon; and they came back from there with joy, and the town was all worked up. This is the noise which has come to your ears.and they anoint him Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet for king in Gihon, and are come up thence rejoicing, and the city is moved; it [is] the noise that ye have heard.and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon; and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard.
1st-Kings 1:46And now Solomon is seated on the seat of the kingdom.`And also Solomon hath sat on the throne of the kingdom,And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.
1st-Kings 1:47And the king's servants came to our lord King David, blessing him and saying, May God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and the seat of his authority greater than your seat; and the king was bent low in worship on his bed.and also the servants of the king have come into bless our lord king David, saying, Thy God doth make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and his throne greater than thy throne; and the king boweth himself on the bed,And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, Thy God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne: and the king bowed himself upon the bed.
1st-Kings 1:48Then the king said, May the God of Israel be praised, who has given one of my seed to be king in my place this day and has let my eyes see it.and also thus hath the king said, Blessed [is] Jehovah, God of Israel, who hath given to-day [one] sitting on my throne, and mine eyes seeing.`And also thus said the king, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.
1st-Kings 1:49And all the guests of Adonijah got up in fear and went away, every man to his place.And they tremble, and rise all those called who [are] for Adonijah and go, each on his way;And all the guests of Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.
1st-Kings 1:50And Adonijah himself was full of fear because of Solomon; and he got up and went to the altar, and put his hands on its horns.and Adonijah feareth because of Solomon, and riseth, and goeth, and layeth hold on the horns of the altar.And Adonijah feared because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
1st-Kings 1:51And they gave Solomon word of it, saying, See, Adonijah goes in such fear of King Solomon, that he has put his hands on the horns of the altar, saying, Let King Solomon first give me his oath that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.And it is declared to Solomon, saying, `Lo, Adonijah feareth king Solomon, and lo, he hath laid hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear to me as to-day he doth not put to death his servant by the sword.`And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon; for, lo, he hath laid hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me first that he will not slay his servant with the sword.
1st-Kings 1:52And Solomon said, If he is seen to be a man of good faith, not a hair of him will be touched; but if any wrongdoing is seen in him, he is to be put to death.And Solomon saith, `If he becometh a virtuous man there doth not fall of his hair to the earth, and if evil is found in him then he hath died.`And Solomon said, If he shall show himself a worthy man, there shall not a hair of him fall to the earth; but if wickedness be found in him, he shall die.
1st-Kings 1:53So King Solomon sent, and they took him down from the altar. And he came and gave honour to King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, Go to your house.And king Solomon sendeth, and they bring him down from off the altar, and he cometh in and boweth himself to king Solomon, and Solomon saith to him, `Go to thy house.`So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and did obeisance to king Solomon; and Solomon said unto him, Go to thy house.
