2nd-Peter 3:1 | My loved ones, this is now my second letter to you, and in this as in the first, I am attempting to keep your true minds awake; | This, now, beloved, a second letter to you I write, in both which I stir up your pure mind in reminding [you], | This, a second letter, beloved, I already write to you, in [both] which I stir up, in the way of putting you in remembrance, your pure mind, |
2nd-Peter 3:2 | So that you may keep in mind the words of the holy prophets in the past, and the law of the Lord and Saviour which was given to you by his Apostles. | to be mindful of the sayings said before by the holy prophets, and of the command of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour, | to be mindful of the words spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of the Lord and Saviour by your apostles; |
2nd-Peter 3:3 | Having first of all the knowledge that in the last days there will be men who, ruled by their evil desires, will make sport of holy things, | this first knowing, that there shall come in the latter end of the days scoffers, according to their own desires going on, | knowing this first, that there shall come at [the] close of the days mockers with mocking, walking according to their own lusts, |
2nd-Peter 3:4 | Saying, Where is the hope of his coming? From the death of the fathers till now everything has gone on as it was from the making of the world. | and saying, `Where is the promise of his presence? for since the fathers did fall asleep, all things so remain from the beginning of the creation;` | and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for from the time the fathers fell asleep all things remain thus from [the] beginning of [the] creation. |
2nd-Peter 3:5 | But in taking this view they put out of their minds the memory that in the old days there was a heaven, and an earth lifted out of the water and circled by water, by the word of God; | for this is unobserved by them willingly, that the heavens were of old, and the earth out of water and through water standing together by the word of God, | For this is hidden from them through their own wilfulness, that heavens were of old, and an earth, having its subsistence out of water and in water, by the word of God, |
2nd-Peter 3:6 | And that the world which then was came to an end through the overflowing of the waters. | through which the then world, by water having been deluged, was destroyed; | through which [waters] the then world, deluged with water, perished. |
2nd-Peter 3:7 | But the present heaven and the present earth have been kept for destruction by fire, which is waiting for them on the day of the judging and destruction of evil men. | and the present heavens and the earth, by the same word are treasured, for fire being kept to a day of judgment and destruction of the impious men. | But the present heavens and the earth by his word are laid up in store, kept for fire unto a day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. |
2nd-Peter 3:8 | But, my loved ones, keep in mind this one thing, that with the Lord one day is the same as a thousand years, and a thousand years are no more than one day. | And this one thing let not be unobserved by you, beloved, that one day with the Lord [is] as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day; | But let not this one thing be hidden from you, beloved, that one day with [the] Lord [is] as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. |
2nd-Peter 3:9 | The Lord is not slow in keeping his word, as he seems to some, but he is waiting in mercy for you, not desiring the destruction of any, but that all may be turned from their evil ways. | the Lord is not slow in regard to the promise, as certain count slowness, but is long-suffering to us, not counselling any to be lost but all to pass on to reformation, | [The] Lord does not delay his promise, as some account of delay, but is longsuffering towards you, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. |
2nd-Peter 3:10 | But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; and in that day the heavens will be rolled up with a great noise, and the substance of the earth will be changed by violent heat, and the world and everything in it will be burned up. | and it will come the day of the Lord as a thief in the night, in which the heavens with a rushing noise will pass away, and the elements with burning heat be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up. | But the day of [the] Lord will come as a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, and [the] elements, burning with heat, shall be dissolved, and [the] earth and the works in it shall be burnt up. |
2nd-Peter 3:11 | Seeing then that all these things are coming to such an end, what sort of persons is it right for you to be, in all holy behaviour and righteousness, | All these, then, being dissolved, what kind of persons doth it behove you to be in holy behaviours and pious acts? | All these things then being to be dissolved, what ought ye to be in holy conversation and godliness, |
2nd-Peter 3:12 | Looking for and truly desiring the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will come to an end through fire, and the substance of the earth will be changed by the great heat? | waiting for and hasting to the presence of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt; | waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, by reason of which [the] heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and [the] elements, burning with heat, shall melt? |
2nd-Peter 3:13 | But having faith in his word, we are looking for a new heaven and a new earth, which will be the resting-place of righteousness. | and for new heavens and a new earth according to His promise we do wait, in which righteousness doth dwell; | But, according to his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness. |
2nd-Peter 3:14 | For this reason, my loved ones, as you are looking for these things, take great care that when he comes you may be in peace before him, free from sin and every evil thing. | wherefore, beloved, these things waiting for, be diligent, spotless and unblameable, by Him to be found in peace, | Wherefore, beloved, as ye wait for these things, be diligent to be found of him in peace, without spot and blameless; |
2nd-Peter 3:15 | And be certain that the long waiting of the Lord is for salvation; even as our brother Paul has said in his letters to you, from the wisdom which was given to him; | and the long-suffering of our Lord count ye salvation, according as also our beloved brother Paul according to the wisdom given to him did write to you, | and account the longsuffering of our Lord [to be] salvation; according as our beloved brother Paul also has written to you according to the wisdom given to him, |
2nd-Peter 3:16 | And as he said in all his letters, which had to do with these things; in which are some hard sayings, so that, like the rest of the holy Writings, they are twisted by those who are uncertain and without knowledge, to the destruction of their souls. | as also in all the epistles, speaking in them concerning these things, among which things are certain hard to be understood, which the untaught and unstable do wrest, as also the other Writings, unto their own destruction. | as also in all [his] epistles, speaking in them of these things; among which some things are hard to be understood, which the untaught and ill-established wrest, as also the other scriptures, to their own destruction. |
2nd-Peter 3:17 | For this reason, my loved ones, having knowledge of these things before they take place, take care that you are not turned away by the error of the uncontrolled, so falling from your true faith. | Ye, then, beloved, knowing before, take heed, lest, together with the error of the impious being led away, ye may fall from your own stedfastness, | *Ye* therefore, beloved, knowing [these] things before, take care lest, being led away along with the error of the wicked, ye should fall from your own stedfastness: |
2nd-Peter 3:18 | But be increased in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May he have glory now and for ever. So be it. | and increase ye in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; to him [is] the glory both now, and to the day of the age! Amen. | but grow in grace, and in [the] knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] glory both now and to [the] day of eternity. Amen. |
