John 16:1 | I have said these things to you so that you may not be in doubt. | `These things I have spoken to you, that ye may not be stumbled, | These things I have spoken unto you that ye may not be offended. |
John 16:2 | They will put you out of the Synagogues: yes, the time is coming when whoever puts you to death will have the belief that he is doing God's pleasure. | out of the synagogues they will put you; but an hour doth come, that every one who hath killed you, may think to offer service unto God; | They shall put you out of the synagogues; but the hour is coming that every one who kills you will think to render service to God; |
John 16:3 | They will do these things to you because they have not had knowledge of the Father or of me. | and these things they will do to you, because they did not know the Father, nor me. | and these things they will do because they have not known the Father nor me. |
John 16:4 | I have said these things to you so that when the time comes, what I have said may come to your mind. I did not say them to you at the first, because then I was still with you. | `But these things I have spoken to you, that when the hour may come, ye may remember them, that I said [them] to you, and these things to you from the beginning I did not say, because I was with you; | But I have spoken these things to you, that when their hour shall have come, ye may remember them, that I have said [them] unto you. But I did not say these things unto you from [the] beginning, because I was with you. |
John 16:5 | But now I am going to him who sent me; and not one of you says to me, Where are you going? | and now I go away to Him who sent me, and none of you doth ask me, Whither dost thou go? | But now I go to him that has sent me, and none of you demands of me, Where goest thou? |
John 16:6 | But your hearts are full of sorrow because I have said these things. | but because these things I have said to you, the sorrow hath filled your heart. | But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. |
John 16:7 | But what I am saying is true: my going is for your good: for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. | `But I tell you the truth; it is better for you that I go away, for if I may not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you, and if I go on, I will send Him unto you; | But I say the truth to you, It is profitable for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go I will send him to you. |
John 16:8 | And he, when he comes, will make the world conscious of sin, and of righteousness, and of being judged: | and having come, He will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment; | And having come, he will bring demonstration to the world, of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: |
John 16:9 | Of sin, because they have not faith in me; | concerning sin indeed, because they do not believe in me; | of sin, because they do not believe on me; |
John 16:10 | Of righteousness, because I go to the Father and you will see me no more; | and concerning righteousness, because unto my Father I go away, and no more do ye behold me; | of righteousness, because I go away to [my] Father, and ye behold me no longer; |
John 16:11 | Of being judged, because the ruler of this world has been judged. | and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world hath been judged. | of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. |
John 16:12 | I have still much to say to you, but you are not strong enough for it now. | `I have yet many things to say to you, but ye are not able to bear [them] now; | I have yet many things to say to you, but ye cannot bear them now. |
John 16:13 | However, when he, the Spirit of true knowledge, has come, he will be your guide into all true knowledge: for his words will not come from himself, but whatever has come to his hearing, that he will say: and he will make clear to you the things to come. | and when He may come the Spirit of truth He will guide you to all the truth, for He will not speak from Himself, but as many things as He will hear He will speak, and the coming things He will tell you; | But when *he* is come, the Spirit of truth, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but whatsoever he shall hear he shall speak; and he will announce to you what is coming. |
John 16:14 | He will give me glory, because he will take of what is mine, and make it clear to you. | He will glorify me, because of mine He will take, and will tell to you. | He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine and shall announce [it] to you. |
John 16:15 | Everything which the Father has is mine: that is why I say, He will take of what is mine and will make it clear to you. | `All things, as many as the Father hath, are mine; because of this I said, That of mine He will take, and will tell to you; | All things that the Father has are mine; on account of this I have said that he receives of mine and shall announce [it] to you. |
John 16:16 | After a little time you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me. | a little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go away unto the Father.` | A little while and ye do not behold me; and again a little while and ye shall see me, [because I go away to the Father]. |
John 16:17 | So some of the disciples said one to another, What is this he is saying, After a little time, you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me? and, I am going to the Father? | Therefore said [some] of his disciples one to another, `What is this that he saith to us, A little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, and, Because I go away unto the Father?` | [Some] of his disciples therefore said to one another, What is this he says to us, A little while and ye do not behold me; and again a little while and ye shall see me, and, Because I go away to the Father? |
John 16:18 | So they said again and again, What is this he is saying, A little time? His words are not clear to us. | they said then, `What is this he saith the little while? we have not known what he saith.` | They said therefore, What is this which he says [of] the little while? We do not know [of] what he speaks. |
John 16:19 | Jesus saw that they had a desire to put the question to him, so he said to them, Is this what you are questioning one with another, why I said, After a little time, you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me? | Jesus, therefore, knew that they were wishing to ask him, and he said to them, `Concerning this do ye seek one with another, because I said, A little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me? | Jesus knew therefore that they desired to demand of him, and said to them, Do ye inquire of this among yourselves that I said, A little while and ye do not behold me; and again a little while and ye shall see me? |
John 16:20 | Truly I say to you, You will be weeping and sorrowing, but the world will be glad: you will be sad, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. | verily, verily, I say to you, that ye shall weep and lament, and the world will rejoice; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow joy will become. | Verily, verily, I say to you, that ye shall weep and lament, ye, but the world shall rejoice; and ye will be grieved, but your grief shall be turned to joy. |
John 16:21 | When a woman is about to give birth she has sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she has given birth to the child, the pain is put out of her mind by the joy that a man has come into the world. | `The woman, when she may bear, hath sorrow, because her hour did come, and when she may bear the child, no more doth she remember the anguish, because of the joy that a man was born to the world. | A woman, when she gives birth to a child, has grief because her hour has come; but when the child is born, she no longer remembers the trouble, on account of the joy that a man has been born into the world. |
John 16:22 | So you have sorrow now: but I will see you again, and your hearts will be glad, and no one will take away your joy. | `And ye, therefore, now, indeed, have sorrow; and again I will see you, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one doth take from you, | And ye now therefore have grief; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one takes from you. |
John 16:23 | And on that day you will put no questions to me. Truly I say to you, Whatever request you make to the Father, he will give it to you in my name. | and in that day ye will question me nothing; verily, verily, I say to you, as many things as ye may ask of the Father in my name, He will give you; | And in that day ye shall demand nothing of me: verily, verily, I say to you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give you. |
John 16:24 | Up to now you have made no request in my name: do so, and it will be answered, so that your hearts may be full of joy. | till now ye did ask nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. | Hitherto ye have asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. |
John 16:25 | All this I have said to you in veiled language: but the time is coming when I will no longer say things in veiled language but will give you knowledge of the Father clearly. | `These things in similitudes I have spoken to you, but there cometh an hour when no more in similitudes will I speak to you, but freely of the Father, will tell you. | These things I have spoken to you in allegories; the hour is coming that I will no longer speak to you in allegories, but will declare to you openly concerning the Father. |
John 16:26 | In that day you will make requests in my name: and I do not say that I will make prayer to the Father for you, | `In that day, in my name ye will make request, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you, | In that day ye shall ask in my name; and I say not to you that I will demand of the Father for you, |
John 16:27 | For the Father himself gives his love to you, because you have given your love to me and have had faith that I came from God. | for the Father himself doth love you, because me ye have loved, and ye have believed that I from God came forth; | for the Father himself has affection for you, because ye have had affection for me, and have believed that I came out from God. |
John 16:28 | I came out from the Father and have come into the world: again, I go away from the world and go to the Father. | I came forth from the Father, and have come to the world; again I leave the world, and go on unto the Father.` | I came out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I leave the world and go to the Father. |
John 16:29 | His disciples said, Now you are talking clearly and not in veiled language. | His disciples say to him, `Lo, now freely thou dost speak, and no similitude speakest thou; | His disciples say to him, Lo, now thou speakest openly and utterest no allegory. |
John 16:30 | Now we are certain that you have knowledge of all things and have no need for anyone to put questions to you: through this we have faith that you came from God. | now we have known that thou hast known all things, and hast no need that any one do question thee; in this we believe that from God thou didst come forth.` | Now we know that thou knowest all things, and hast not need that any one should demand of thee. By this we believe that thou art come from God. |
John 16:31 | Jesus made answer, Have you faith now? | Jesus answered them, `Now do ye believe? lo, there doth come an hour, | Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? |
John 16:32 | See, a time is coming, yes, it is now here, when you will go away in all directions, every man to his house, and I will be by myself: but I am not by myself, because the Father is with me. | and now it hath come, that ye may be scattered, each to his own things, and me ye may leave alone, and I am not alone, because the Father is with me; | Behold, [the] hour is coming, and has come, that ye shall be scattered, each to his own, and shall leave me alone; and [yet] I am not alone, for the Father is with me. |
John 16:33 | I have said all these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble: but take heart! I have overcome the world. | these things I have spoken to you, that in me ye may have peace, in the world ye shall have tribulation, but take courage I have overcome the world.` | These things have I spoken to you that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye have tribulation; but be of good courage: I have overcome the world. |
