Matthew 3:1 | And in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the waste land of Judaea, | And in those days cometh John the Baptist, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea, | Now in those days comes John the baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, |
Matthew 3:2 | Saying, Let your hearts be turned from sin; for the kingdom of heaven is near. | and saying, `Reform, for come nigh hath the reign of the heavens,` | and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn nigh. |
Matthew 3:3 | For this is he of whom Isaiah the prophet said, The voice of one crying in the waste land, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his roads straight. | for this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, `A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight make ye His paths.` | For this is he who has been spoken of through Esaias the prophet, saying, Voice of him that crieth in the wilderness: prepare ye the way of [the] Lord, make straight his paths. |
Matthew 3:4 | Now John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather band about him; and his food was locusts and honey. | And this John had his clothing of camel`s hair, and a girdle of skin round his loins, and his nourishment was locusts and honey of the field. | And John himself had his garment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins, and his nourishment was locusts and wild honey. |
Matthew 3:5 | Then Jerusalem and all Judaea went out to him, and all the people from near Jordan; | Then were going forth unto him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan, | Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the country round the Jordan, |
Matthew 3:6 | And they were given baptism by him in the river Jordan, saying openly that they had done wrong. | and they were baptized in the Jordan by him, confessing their sins. | and were baptised by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. |
Matthew 3:7 | But when he saw a number of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, Offspring of snakes, at whose word are you going in flight from the wrath to come? | And having seen many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming about his baptism, he said to them, `Brood of vipers! who did shew you to flee from the coming wrath? | But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, Offspring of vipers, who has forewarned you to flee from the coming wrath? |
Matthew 3:8 | Let your change of heart be seen in your works: | bear, therefore, fruits worthy of the reformation, | Produce therefore fruit worthy of repentance. |
Matthew 3:9 | And say not to yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; because I say to you that God is able from these stones to make children for Abraham. | and do not think to say in yourselves, A father we have Abraham, for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise children to Abraham, | And do not think to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for [our] father; for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham. |
Matthew 3:10 | And even now the axe is put to the root of the trees; every tree then which does not give good fruit is cut down, and put into the fire. | and now also, the axe unto the root of the trees is laid, every tree therefore not bearing good fruit is hewn down, and to fire is cast. | And already the axe is applied to the root of the trees; every tree therefore not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. |
Matthew 3:11 | Truly, I give baptism with water to those of you whose hearts are changed; but he who comes after me is greater than I, whose shoes I am not good enough to take up: he will give you baptism with the Holy Spirit and with fire: | `I indeed do baptize you with water to reformation, but he who after me is coming is mightier than I, of whom I am not worthy to bear the sandals, he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire, | *I* indeed baptise you with water to repentance, but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not fit to bear; *he* shall baptise you with [the] Holy Spirit and fire; |
Matthew 3:12 | In whose hand is the instrument with which he will make clean his grain; he will put the good grain in his store, but the waste will be burned up in the fire which will never be put out. | whose fan [is] in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and will gather his wheat to the storehouse, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.` | whose winnowing fan [is] in his hand, and he shall thoroughly purge his threshing-floor, and shall gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. |
Matthew 3:13 | Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be given baptism by him. | Then cometh Jesus from Galilee upon the Jordan, unto John to be baptized by him, | Then comes Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptised of him; |
Matthew 3:14 | But John would have kept him back, saying, It is I who have need of baptism from you, and do you come to me? | but John was forbidding him, saying, `I have need by thee to be baptized and thou dost come unto me!` | but John urgently forbad him, saying, *I* have need to be baptised of thee; and comest *thou* to me? |
Matthew 3:15 | But Jesus made answer, saying to him, Let it be so now: because so it is right for us to make righteousness complete. Then he gave him baptism. | But Jesus answering said to him, `Suffer now, for thus it is becoming to us to fulfill all righteousness,` then he doth suffer him. | But Jesus answering said to him, Suffer [it] now; for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffers him. |
Matthew 3:16 | And Jesus, having been given baptism, straight away went up from the water; and, the heavens opening, he saw the Spirit of God coming down on him as a dove; | And having been baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water, and lo, opened to him were the heavens, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him, | And Jesus, having been baptised, went up straightway from the water, and lo, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him: |
Matthew 3:17 | And a voice came out of heaven, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased. | and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, `This is My Son the Beloved, in whom I did delight.` | and behold, a voice out of the heavens saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight. |
