Matthew 6:1 | Take care not to do your good works before men, to be seen by them; or you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. | `Take heed your kindness not to do before men, to be seen by them, and if not reward ye have not from your Father who [is] in the heavens; | Take heed that you do not your justice before men, to be seen by them: otherwise you shall not have a reward of your Father who is in heaven. |
Matthew 6:2 | When then you give money to the poor, do not make a noise about it, as the false-hearted men do in the Synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Truly, I say to you, They have their reward. | whenever, therefore, thou mayest do kindness, thou mayest not sound a trumpet before thee as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men; verily I say to you they have their reward! | Therefore when thou dost an almsdeed, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be honoured by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. |
Matthew 6:3 | But when you give money, let not your left hand see what your right hand does: | `But thou, doing kindness, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doth, | But when thou dost alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doth. |
Matthew 6:4 | So that your giving may be in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward. | that thy kindness may be in secret, and thy Father who is seeing in secret Himself shall reward thee manifestly. | That thy alms may be in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret will repay thee. |
Matthew 6:5 | And when you make your prayers, be not like the false-hearted men, who take pleasure in getting up and saying their prayers in the Synagogues and at the street turnings so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. | `And when thou mayest pray, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites, because they love in the synagogues, and in the corners of the broad places standing to pray, that they may be seen of men; verily I say to you, that they have their reward. | And when ye pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, that love to stand and pray in the synagogues and corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men: Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. |
Matthew 6:6 | But when you make your prayer, go into your private room, and, shutting the door, say a prayer to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward. | `But thou, when thou mayest pray, go into thy chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who [is] in secret, and thy Father who is seeing in secret, shall reward thee manifestly. | But thou when thou shalt pray, enter into thy chamber, and having shut the door, pray to thy Father in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret will repay thee. |
Matthew 6:7 | And in your prayer do not make use of the same words again and again, as the Gentiles do: for they have the idea that God will give attention to them because of the number of their words. | `And praying ye may not use vain repetitions like the nations, for they think that in their much speaking they shall be heard, | And when you are praying, speak not much, as the heathens. For they think that in their much speaking they may be heard. |
Matthew 6:8 | So be not like them; because your Father has knowledge of your needs even before you make your requests to him. | be ye not therefore like to them, for your Father doth know those things that ye have need of before your asking him; | Be not you therefore like to them, for your Father knoweth what is needful for you, before you ask him. |
Matthew 6:9 | Let this then be your prayer: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. | thus therefore pray ye: `Our Father who [art] in the heavens! hallowed be Thy name. | Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. |
Matthew 6:10 | Let your kingdom come. Let your pleasure be done, as in heaven, so on earth. | `Thy reign come: Thy will come to pass, as in heaven also on the earth. | Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. |
Matthew 6:11 | Give us this day bread for our needs. | `Our appointed bread give us to-day. | Give us this day our supersubstantial bread. |
Matthew 6:12 | And make us free of our debts, as we have made those free who are in debt to us. | `And forgive us our debts, as also we forgive our debtors. | And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. |
Matthew 6:13 | And let us not be put to the test, but keep us safe from the Evil One. | `And mayest Thou not lead us to temptation, but deliver us from the evil, because Thine is the reign, and the power, and the glory to the ages. Amen. | And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen. |
Matthew 6:14 | For if you let men have forgiveness for their sins, you will have forgiveness from your Father in heaven. | `For, if ye may forgive men their trespasses He also will forgive you your Father who [is] in the heavens; | For if you will forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father will forgive you also your offences. |
Matthew 6:15 | But if you do not let men have forgiveness for their sins, you will not have forgiveness from your Father for your sins. | but if ye may not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. | But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your offences. |
Matthew 6:16 | And when you go without food, be not sad-faced as the false-hearted are. For they go about with changed looks, so that men may see that they are going without food. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. | `And when ye may fast, be ye not as the hypocrites, of sour countenances, for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men fasting; verily I say to you, that they have their reward. | And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. |
Matthew 6:17 | But when you go without food, put oil on your head and make your face clean; | `But thou, fasting, anoint thy head, and wash thy face, | But thou, when thou fastest anoint thy head, and wash thy face; |
Matthew 6:18 | So that no one may see that you are going without food, but your Father in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward. | that thou mayest not appear to men fasting, but to thy Father who [is] in secret, and thy Father, who is seeing in secret, shall reward thee manifestly. | That thou appear not to men to fast, but to thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret, will repay thee. |
Matthew 6:19 | Make no store of wealth for yourselves on earth, where it may be turned to dust by worms and weather, and where thieves may come in by force and take it away. | `Treasure not up to yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust disfigure, and where thieves break through and steal, | Lay not up to yourselves treasures on earth: where the rust, and moth consume, and where thieves break through and steal. |
Matthew 6:20 | But make a store for yourselves in heaven, where it will not be turned to dust and where thieves do not come in to take it away: | but treasure up to yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth disfigure, and where thieves do not break through nor steal, | But lay up to yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither the rust nor moth doth consume, and where thieves do not break through, nor steal. |
Matthew 6:21 | For where your wealth is, there will your heart be. | for where your treasure is, there will be also your heart. | For where thy treasure is, there is thy heart also. |
Matthew 6:22 | The light of the body is the eye; if then your eye is true, all your body will be full of light. | `The lamp of the body is the eye, if, therefore, thine eye may be perfect, all thy body shall be enlightened, | The light of thy body is thy eye. If thy eye be single, thy whole body shall be lightsome. |
Matthew 6:23 | But if your eye is evil, all your body will be dark. If then the light which is in you is dark, how dark it will be! | but if thine eye may be evil, all thy body shall be dark; if, therefore, the light that [is] in thee is darkness the darkness, how great! | But if thy eye be evil thy whole body shall be darksome. If then the light that is in thee, be darkness: the darkness itself how great shall it be! |
Matthew 6:24 | No man is able to be a servant to two masters: for he will have hate for the one and love for the other, or he will keep to one and have no respect for the other. You may not be servants of God and of wealth. | `None is able to serve two lords, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to the one, and despise the other; ye are not able to serve God and Mammon. | No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. |
Matthew 6:25 | So I say to you, Take no thought for your life, about food or drink, or about clothing for your body. Is not life more than food, and the body more than its clothing? | `Because of this I say to you, be not anxious for your life, what ye may eat, and what ye may drink, nor for your body, what ye may put on. Is not the life more than the nourishment, and the body than the clothing? | Therefore I say to you, be not solicitous for your life, what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than the meat: and the body more than the raiment? |
Matthew 6:26 | See the birds of heaven; they do not put seeds in the earth, they do not get in grain, or put it in store-houses; and your Father in heaven gives them food. Are you not of much more value than they? | look to the fowls of the heaven, for they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather into storehouses, and your heavenly Father doth nourish them; are not ye much better than they? | Behold the birds of the air, for they neither sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns: and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not you of much more value than they? |
Matthew 6:27 | And which of you by taking thought is able to make himself a cubit taller? | `And who of you, being anxious, is able to add to his age one cubit? | And which of you by taking thought, can add to his stature by one cubit? |
Matthew 6:28 | And why are you troubled about clothing? See the flowers of the field, how they come up; they do no work, they make no thread: | and about clothing why are ye anxious? consider well the lilies of the field; how do they grow? they do not labour, nor do they spin; | And for raiment why are you solicitous? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they labour not, neither do they spin. |
Matthew 6:29 | But I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. | and I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these. | But I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these. |
Matthew 6:30 | But if God gives such clothing to the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is put into the oven, will he not much more give you clothing, O you of little faith? | `And if the herb of the field, that to-day is, and to-morrow is cast to the furnace, God doth so clothe not much more you, O ye of little faith? | And if the grass of the field, which is to day, and to morrow is cast into the oven, God doth so clothe: how much more you, O ye of little faith? |
Matthew 6:31 | Then do not be full of care, saying, What are we to have for food or drink? or, With what may we be clothed? | therefore ye may not be anxious, saying, What may we eat? or, What may we drink? or, What may we put round? | Be not solicitous therefore, saying, What shall we eat: or what shall we drink, or wherewith shall we be clothed? |
Matthew 6:32 | Because the Gentiles go in search of all these things: for your Father in heaven has knowledge that you have need of all these things: | for all these do the nations seek for, for your heavenly Father doth know that ye have need of all these; | For after all these things do the heathens seek. For your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things. |
Matthew 6:33 | But let your first care be for his kingdom and his righteousness; and all these other things will be given to you in addition. | but seek ye first the reign of God and His righteousness, and all these shall be added to you. | Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you. |
Matthew 6:34 | Then have no care for tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Take the trouble of the day as it comes. | Be not therefore anxious for the morrow, for the morrow shall be anxious for its own things; sufficient for the day [is] the evil of it. | Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof. |
