Matthew 21:1And when they were near Jerusalem, and had come to Beth-phage, to the Mountain of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples,And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, unto the mount of the Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,
Matthew 21:2Saying to them, Go into the little town in front of you, and straight away you will see an ass with a cord round her neck, and a young one with her; let them loose and come with them to me.saying to them, `Go on to the village over-against you, and immediately ye shall find an ass bound, and a colt with her having loosed, bring ye to me;Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
Matthew 21:3And if anyone says anything to you, you will say, The Lord has need of them; and straight away he will send them.and if any one may say anything to you, ye shall say, that the lord hath need of them, and immediately he will send them.`And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
Matthew 21:4Now this took place so that these words of the prophet might come true,And all this came to pass, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophet, saying,All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
Matthew 21:5Say to the daughter of Zion, See, your King comes to you, gentle and seated on an ass, and on a young ass.`Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Lo, thy king doth come to thee, meek, and mounted on an ass, and a colt, a foal of a beast of burden.`Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
Matthew 21:6And the disciples went and did as Jesus had given them orders,And the disciples having gone and having done as Jesus commanded them,And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
Matthew 21:7And got the ass and the young one, and put their clothing on them, and he took his seat on it.brought the ass and the colt, and did put on them their garments, and set [him] upon them;And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
Matthew 21:8And all the people put their clothing down in the way; and others got branches from the trees, and put them down in the way.and the very great multitude spread their own garments in the way, and others were cutting branches from the trees, and were strewing in the way,And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
Matthew 21:9And those who went before him, and those who came after, gave loud cries, saying, Glory to the Son of David: A blessing on him who comes in the name of the Lord: Glory in the highest.and the multitudes who were going before, and who were following, were crying, saying, `Hosanna to the Son of David, blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.`And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
Matthew 21:10And when he came into Jerusalem, all the town was moved, saying, Who is this?And he having entered into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, `Who is this?`And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
Matthew 21:11And the people said, This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.And the multitudes said, `This is Jesus the prophet, who [is] from Nazareth of Galilee.`And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
Matthew 21:12And Jesus went into the Temple and sent out all who were trading there, overturning the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those trading in doves.And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and did cast forth all those selling and buying in the temple, and the tables of the money-changers he overturned, and the seats of those selling the doves,And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
Matthew 21:13And he said to them, It is in the Writings, My house is to be named a house of prayer, but you are making it a hole of thieves.and he saith to them, `It hath been written, My house a house of prayer shall be called, but ye did make it a den of robbers.`And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Matthew 21:14And the blind and the broken in body came to him in the Temple, and he made them well.And there came to him blind and lame men in the temple, and he healed them,And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
Matthew 21:15But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the works of power which he did, and the children crying out in the Temple, Glory to the son of David, they were angry and said to him,and the chief priests and the scribes having seen the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, `Hosanna to the Son of David,` were much displeased;And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,
Matthew 21:16Have you any idea what these are saying? And Jesus said to them, Yes: have you not seen in the Writings, From the lips of children and babies at the breast you have made your praise complete?and they said to him, `Hearest thou what these say?` And Jesus saith to them, `Yes, did ye never read, that, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings Thou didst prepare praise?`And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
Matthew 21:17And he went away from them, and went out of the town to Bethany, and was there for the night.And having left them, he went forth out of the city to Bethany, and did lodge there,And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.
Matthew 21:18Now in the morning when he was coming back to the town, he had a desire for food.and in the morning turning back to the city, he hungered,Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.
Matthew 21:19And seeing a fig-tree by the wayside, he came to it, and saw nothing on it but leaves only; and he said to it, Let there be no fruit from you from this time forward for ever. And straight away the fig-tree became dry and dead.and having seen a certain fig-tree on the way, he came to it, and found nothing in it except leaves only, and he saith to it, `No more from thee may fruit be to the age;` and forthwith the fig-tree withered.And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
Matthew 21:20And when the disciples saw it they were surprised, saying, How did the fig-tree become dry in so short a time?And the disciples having seen, did wonder, saying, `How did the fig-tree forthwith wither?`And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!
Matthew 21:21And Jesus in answer said to them, Truly I say to you, If you have faith, without doubting, not only may you do what has been done to the fig-tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and put into the sea, it will be done.And Jesus answering said to them, `Verily I say to you, If ye may have faith, and may not doubt, not only this of the fig-tree shall ye do, but even if to this mount ye may say, Be lifted up and be cast into the sea, it shall come to pass;Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
Matthew 21:22And all things, whatever you make request for in prayer, having faith, you will get.and all as much as ye may ask in the prayer, believing, ye shall receive.`And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Matthew 21:23And when he had come into the Temple, the chief priests and those in authority over the people came to him while he was teaching, and said, By what authority do you do these things? and who gave you this authority?And he having come to the temple, there came to him when teaching the chief priests and the elders of the people, saying, `By what authority dost thou do these things? and who gave thee this authority?`And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?
Matthew 21:24And Jesus said to them in answer, I will put one question to you, and if you give me the answer, I will say by what authority I do these things.And Jesus answering said to them, `I will ask you I also one word, which if ye may tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things;And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
Matthew 21:25The baptism of John, where did it come from? from heaven or from men? And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven; he will say to us, Why then did you not have faith in him?the baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men?` And they were reasoning with themselves, saying, `If we should say, From heaven; he will say to us, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him?The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?
Matthew 21:26But if we say, From men; we are in fear of the people, because all take John to be a prophet.and if we should say, From men, we fear the multitude, for all hold John as a prophet.`But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.
Matthew 21:27And they made answer and said, We have no idea. Then he said to them, And I will not say to you by what authority I do these things.And answering Jesus they said, `We have not known.` He said to them he also `Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
Matthew 21:28But how does it seem to you? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go and do work today in the vine-garden.`And what think ye? A man had two children, and having come to the first, he said, Child, go, to-day be working in my vineyard.`But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
Matthew 21:29And he said in answer, I will not: but later, changing his decision, he went.And he answering said, `I will not,` but at last, having repented, he went.He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
Matthew 21:30And he came to the second and said the same. And he made answer and said, I go, sir: and went not.`And having come to the second, he said in the same manner, and he answering said, I [go], sir, and went not;And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
Matthew 21:31Which of the two did his father's pleasure? They say, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, that tax-farmers and loose women are going into the kingdom of God before you.which of the two did the will of the father?` They say to him, `The first.` Jesus saith to them, `Verily I say to you, that the tax-gatherers and the harlots do go before you into the reign of God,Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
Matthew 21:32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you had no faith in him, but the tax-farmers and the loose women had faith in him: and you, when you saw it, did not even have regret for your sins, so as to have faith in him.for John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye did not believe him, and the tax-gatherers and the harlots did believe him, and ye, having seen, repented not at last to believe him.For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
Matthew 21:33Give ear to another story. A master of a house made a vine garden, and put a wall round it, and made a place for crushing out the wine, and made a tower, and let it out to field-workers, and went into another country.`Hear ye another simile: There was a certain man, a householder, who planted a vineyard, and did put a hedge round it, and digged in it a wine-press, and built a tower, and gave it out to husbandmen, and went abroad.Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:
Matthew 21:34And when the time for the fruit came near, he sent his servants to the workmen, to get the fruit.`And when the season of the fruits came nigh, he sent his servants unto the husbandmen, to receive the fruits of it,And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.
Matthew 21:35And the workmen made an attack on his servants, giving blows to one, putting another to death, and stoning another.and the husbandmen having taken his servants, one they scourged, and one they killed, and one they stoned.And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
Matthew 21:36Again, he sent other servants more in number than the first: and they did the same to them.`Again he sent other servants more than the first, and they did to them in the same manner.Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.
Matthew 21:37But after that he sent his son to them, saying, They will have respect for my son.`And at last he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son;But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.
Matthew 21:38But when the workmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is he who will one day be the owner of the property; come, let us put him to death and take his heritage.and the husbandmen having seen the son, said among themselves, This is the heir, come, we may kill him, and may possess his inheritance;But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.
Matthew 21:39And they took him and, driving him out of the vine-garden, put him to death.and having taken him, they cast [him] out of the vineyard, and killed him;And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.
Matthew 21:40When, then, the lord of the vine-garden comes, what will he do to those workmen?whenever therefore the lord of the vineyard may come, what will he do to these husbandmen?`When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?
Matthew 21:41They say to him, He will put those cruel men to a cruel death, and will let out the vine-garden to other workmen, who will give him the fruit when it is ready.They say to him, `Evil men he will evilly destroy them, and the vineyard will give out to other husbandmen, who will give back to him the fruits in their seasons.`They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.
Matthew 21:42Jesus says to them, Did you never see in the Writings, The stone which the builders put on one side, the same has been made the chief stone of the building: this was the Lord's doing, and it is a wonder in our eyes?Jesus saith to them, `Did ye never read in the Writings, A stone that the builders disallowed, it became head of a corner; from the Lord hath this come to pass, and it is wonderful in our eyes.Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
Matthew 21:43For this reason I say to you, The kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and will be given to a nation producing the fruits of it.`Because of this I say to you, that the reign of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth its fruit;Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
Matthew 21:44Any man falling on this stone will be broken, but he on whom it comes down will be crushed to dust.and he who is falling on this stone shall be broken, and on whomsoever it may fall it will crush him to pieces.`And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
Matthew 21:45And when his stories came to the ears of the chief priests and the Pharisees, they saw that he was talking of them.And the chief priests and the Pharisees having heard his similes, knew that of them he speaketh,And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.
Matthew 21:46And though they had a desire to take him, they were in fear of the people, because in their eyes he was a prophet.and seeking to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, seeing they were holding him as a prophet.But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.
