John 8:1But Jesus went to the Mountain of Olives. And at dawn he came again to the temple,Jesus went to the mount of Olives:
John 8:2And early in the morning he came again into the Temple and all the people came to him and he was seated teaching them.and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them; And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him; and he sat down and taught them.
John 8:3Now the scribes and Pharisees came, with a woman who had been taken in the act of sinning against the married relation;and the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,And the scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman taken in adultery: and when they had set her in the midst,
John 8:4And putting her forward, they said to him, Master, this woman has been taken in the very act of sinning against the married relation.they say to him, `Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime committing adultery,They say to him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
John 8:5Now in the law Moses gave directions that such women were to be stoned; what do you say about it?and in the law, Moses did command us that such be stoned; thou, therefore, what dost thou say?`Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned; but what sayest thou?
John 8:6They said this, testing him, so that they might have something against him. But Jesus, with his head bent down, made letters on the floor with his finger.and this they said, trying him, that they might have to accuse him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger he was writing on the ground,This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
John 8:7But when they went on with their questions, he got up and said to them, Let him among you who is without sin be the first to send a stone at her.and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, `The sinless of you let him first cast the stone at her;`So when they continued asking him, he raised himself, and said to them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
John 8:8And again, with bent head, he made letters on the floor.and again having stooped down, he was writing on the ground,And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
John 8:9And when his words came to their ears, they went out one by one, starting with the oldest even to the last, because they were conscious of what was in their hearts: and Jesus was there by himself with the woman before him.and they having heard, and by the conscience being convicted, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. And they who heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even to the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
John 8:10Then Jesus got up, and seeing nobody but the woman, he said to her, Where are the men who said things against you? did no one give a decision against you?And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, `Woman, where are those thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?`When Jesus had raised himself, and saw none but the woman, he said to her, Woman, where are those thy accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
John 8:11And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, And I do not give a decision against you: go, and never do wrong again.]and she said, `No one, Sir;` and Jesus said to her, `Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.`She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
John 8:12Then again Jesus said to them, I am the light of the world; he who comes with me will not be walking in the dark but will have the light of life.Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, `I am the light of the world; he who is following me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the light of the life.`Then Jesus spoke again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 8:13So the Pharisees said to him, The witness you give is about yourself: your witness is not true. The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, `Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;`The Pharisees therefore said to him, Thou testifiest concerning thyself; thy testimony is not true.
John 8:14Jesus said in answer, Even if I give witness about myself, my witness is true, because I have knowledge of where I came from and where I am going; but you have no knowledge of where I come from or of where I am going.Jesus answered and said to them, `And if I testify of myself my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.Jesus answered and said to them, Though I testify concerning myself, yet my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
John 8:15You are judging from what you see; I am judging no man.`Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,Ye judge after the flesh, I judge no man.
John 8:16Even if I am judging, my decision is right, because I am not by myself with me is the Father who sent me.and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
John 8:17Even in your law it is said that the witness of two men is true.and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
John 8:18I give witness about myself and the Father who sent me gives witness about me.I am [one] who is testifying of myself, and the Father who sent me doth testify of me.`I am one that testifieth concerning myself; and the Father that sent me, testifieth concerning me.
John 8:19Then they said to him, Where is your Father? Jesus said in answer, You have no knowledge of me or of my Father: if you had knowledge of me you would have knowledge of my Father. They said, therefore, to him, `Where is thy father?` Jesus answered, `Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.`Then said they to him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also.
John 8:20Jesus said these words in the place where the offerings were stored, while he was teaching in the Temple: but no man took him because his time was still to come. These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come; These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, for his hour was not yet come.
John 8:21Then he said to them again, I am going away and you will be looking for me, but death will overtake you in your sins. It is not possible for you to come where I am going.therefore said Jesus again to them, `I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.`Then said Jesus again to them, I am going away, and ye will seek me, and will die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
John 8:22So the Jews said, Will he take his life? Is that why he says, Where I go it is not possible for you to come? The Jews, therefore, said, `Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?`Then said the Jews, will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
John 8:23And he said to them, You are of the earth; I am from heaven: you are of this world; I am not of this world.and he said to them, `Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world; And he said to them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8:24For this reason I said to you that death will overtake you in your sins: for if you have not faith that I am he, death will come to you while you are in your sins.I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.`I said therefore to you, that ye will die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye will die in your sins.
John 8:25Then they said to him, Who are you? Jesus said, What I said to you from the first. They said, therefore, to him, `Thou who art thou?` and Jesus said to them, `Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning; Then said they to him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith to them, Even the same that I said to you from the beginning.
John 8:26I have much to say about you and against you: but he who sent me is true and what he has said to me I say to the world.many things I have to speak concerning you and to judge, but He who sent me is true, and I what things I heard from Him these I say to the world.`I have many things to say, and to judge of you: but he that sent me, is true: and I speak to the world those things which I have heard from him.
John 8:27They did not see that his words were about the Father. They knew not that of the Father he spake to them; They understood not that he spoke to them concerning the Father.
John 8:28So Jesus said, When the Son of man has been lifted up by you, then it will be clear to you who I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but say as the Father gave me teaching.Jesus, therefore, said to them, `When ye may lift up the Son of Man then ye will know that I am [he]; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak; Then said Jesus to them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
John 8:29He who sent me is with me; he has not gone from me, because at all times I do the things which are pleasing to him.and He who sent me is with me; the Father did not leave me alone, because I, the things pleasing to Him, do always.`And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
John 8:30When he said this a number came to have faith in him.As he is speaking these things, many believed in him;As he spoke these words, many believed on him.
John 8:31Then Jesus said to the Jews who had faith in him, If you keep my word, then you are truly my disciples;Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, `If ye may remain in my word, truly my disciples ye are, and ye shall know the truth,Then said Jesus to those Jews who believed on him, If ye continue in my word, ye are my disciples indeed;
John 8:32And you will have knowledge of what is true, and that will make you free.and the truth shall make you free.`And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:33They said to him in answer, We are Abraham's seed and have never been any man's servant: why do you say, You will become free? They answered him, `Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say Ye shall become free?`They answered him, We are Abraham's offspring, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
John 8:34And this was the answer Jesus gave them: Truly I say to you, Everyone who does evil is the servant of sin.Jesus answered them, `Verily, verily, I say to you Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Whoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin.
John 8:35Now the servant does not go on living in the house for ever, but the son does.and the servant doth not remain in the house to the age, the son doth remain to the age;And the servant abideth not in the house for ever, but the Son abideth for ever.
John 8:36If then the son makes you free, you will be truly free.if then the son may make you free, in reality ye shall be free.If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
John 8:37I am conscious that you are Abraham's seed; but you have a desire to put me to death because my word has no place in you.`I have known that ye are seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you;I know that ye are Abraham's offspring; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
John 8:38I say the things which I have seen in my Father's house: and you do the things which come to you from your father's house.I that which I have seen with my Father do speak, and ye, therefore, that which ye have seen with your father ye do.`I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
John 8:39In answer they said to him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus said to them, If you were Abraham's children you would do what Abraham did. They answered and said to him, `Our father is Abraham;` Jesus saith to them, `If children of Abraham ye were, the works of Abraham ye were doing; They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
John 8:40But now you have a desire to put me to death, a man who has said to you what is true, as I had it from God: Abraham did not do that.and now, ye seek to kill me a man who hath spoken to you the truth I heard from God; this Abraham did not;But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard from God: this did not Abraham.
John 8:41You are doing the works of your father. They said to him, We are true sons of Abraham; we have one Father, who is God.ye do the works of your father.` They said, therefore, to him, `We of whoredom have not been born; one Father we have God;`Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
John 8:42Jesus said to them, If God was your Father you would have love for me, because it was from God I came and am here. I did not come of myself, but he sent me.Jesus then said to them, `If God were your father, ye were loving me, for I came forth from God, and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but He sent me;Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
John 8:43Why are my words not clear to you? It is because your ears are shut to my teaching.wherefore do ye not know my speech? because ye are not able to hear my word. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
John 8:44You are the children of your father the Evil One and it is your pleasure to do his desires. From the first he was a taker of life; and he did not go in the true way because there is no true thing in him. When he says what is false, it is natural to him, for he is false and the father of what is false.`Ye are of a father the devil, and the desires of your father ye will to do; he was a man-slayer from the beginning, and in the truth he hath not stood, because there is no truth in him; when one may speak the falsehood, of his own he speaketh, because he is a liar also his father.Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do: he was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:45But because I say what is true, you have no belief in me.`And because I say the truth, ye do not believe me.And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
John 8:46Which of you is able truly to say that I am a sinner? If I say what is true, why have you no belief in me?Who of you doth convict me of sin? and if I speak truth, wherefore do ye not believe me?Which of you convicteth me of sin? And if I speak the truth, why do ye not believe me?
John 8:47He who is a child of God gives ear to the words of God: your ears are not open to them because you are not from God.he who is of God, the sayings of God he doth hear; because of this ye do not hear, because of God ye are not.`He that is of God, heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
John 8:48The Jews said to him in answer, Are we not right in saying that you are of Samaria and have an evil spirit? The Jews, therefore, answered and said to him, `Do we not say well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?`Then answered the Jews, and said to him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?
John 8:49And this was the answer of Jesus: I have not an evil spirit; but I give honour to my Father and you do not give honour to me.Jesus answered, `I have not a demon, but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me;Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honor my Father, and ye dishonor me.
John 8:50I, however, am not in search of glory for myself: there is One who is searching for it and he is judge.and I do not seek my own glory; there is who is seeking and is judging; And I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
John 8:51Truly I say to you, If a man keeps my word he will never see death.verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may keep my word, death he may not see to the age.`Verily, verily, I say to you, If a man shall keep my saying, he shall never see death.
John 8:52The Jews said to him, Now we are certain that you have an evil spirit. Abraham is dead, and the prophets are dead; and you say, If a man keeps my word he will never see death. The Jews, therefore, said to him, `Now we have known that thou hast a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and thou dost say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death to the age! Then said the Jews to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man shall keep my saying, he shall never taste death.
John 8:53Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead: who do you say that you are?Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died; whom dost thou make thyself?`Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
John 8:54Jesus said in answer, If I take glory for myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who gives me glory, of whom you say that he is your God.Jesus answered, `If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom ye say that He is your God;Jesus answered, If I honor myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that honoreth me, of whom ye say, that he is your God:
John 8:55You have no knowledge of him, but I have knowledge of him; and if I said I have no knowledge of him I would be talking falsely like you: but I have full knowledge of him, and I keep his word.and ye have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep;Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I should be a liar like you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
John 8:56Your father Abraham was full of joy at the hope of seeing my day: he saw it and was glad.Abraham, your father, was glad that he might see my day; and he saw, and did rejoice.`Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
John 8:57Then the Jews said to him, You are not fifty years old; have you seen Abraham? The Jews, therefore, said unto him, `Thou art not yet fifty years old, and Abraham hast thou seen?`Then said the Jews to him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
John 8:58Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, Before Abraham came into being, I am.Jesus said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham`s coming I am;`Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham was, I am.
John 8:59So they took up stones to send at him: but Jesus got secretly out of their way and went out of the Temple.they took up, therefore, stones that they may cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.Then they took up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
