John 9:1 | And when he went on his way, he saw a man blind from birth. | And passing by, he saw a man blind from birth, | And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man who was blind from his birth. |
John 9:2 | And his disciples put a question to him, saying, Master, was it because of this man's sin, or the sin of his father and mother, that he has been blind from birth? | and his disciples asked him, saying, `Rabbi, who did sin, this one or his parents, that he should be born blind?` | And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? |
John 9:3 | Jesus said in answer, It was not because of his sin, or because of his father's or mother's; it was so that the works of God might be seen openly in him. | Jesus answered, `Neither did this one sin nor his parents, but that the works of God may be manifested in him; | Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. |
John 9:4 | While it is day we have to do the works of him who sent me: the night comes when no work may be done. | it behoveth me to be working the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night doth come, when no one is able to work: | I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work. |
John 9:5 | As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. | when I am in the world, I am a light of the world.` | As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. |
John 9:6 | Having said these words, he put earth, mixed with water from his mouth, on the man's eyes, | These things saying, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and rubbed the clay on the eyes of the blind man, and said to him, | When he had thus spoken, he spit on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, |
John 9:7 | And said to him, Go and make yourself clean in the bath of Siloam (the sense of the name is, Sent). So he went away and, after washing, came back able to see. | `Go away, wash at the pool of Siloam,` which is, interpreted, Sent. He went away, therefore, and did wash, and came seeing; | And said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went therefore, and washed, and came seeing. |
John 9:8 | Then the neighbours and others who had seen him before in the street, with his hand out for money, said, Is not this the man who got money from people? | the neighbours, therefore, and those seeing him before, that he was blind, said, `Is not this he who is sitting and begging?` | The neighbors therefore, and they who before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? |
John 9:9 | Some said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he. | others said `This is he;` and others `He is like to him;` he himself said, `I am [he].` | Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he. |
John 9:10 | So they said to him, How then were your eyes made open? | They said, therefore, to him, `How were thine eyes opened?` | Therefore they said to him, How were thy eyes opened? |
John 9:11 | His answer was: The man who is named Jesus put earth mixed with water on my eyes, and said to me, Go and make yourself clean in Siloam: so I went away and, after washing, am now able to see. | he answered and said, `A man called Jesus made clay, and rubbed my eyes, and said to me, Go away to the pool of Siloam, and wash; and having gone away and having washed, I received sight;` | He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. |
John 9:12 | And they said to him, Where is he? His answer was: I have no knowledge. | they said, therefore, to him, `Where is that one?` he saith, `I have not known.` | Then said they to him, Where is he? He said, I know not. |
John 9:13 | They took him before the Pharisees this man who had been blind. | They bring him to the Pharisees who once [was] blind, | They brought to the Pharisees him that before was blind. |
John 9:14 | Now the day on which the earth was mixed by Jesus and the man's eyes were made open was the Sabbath. | and it was a sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. | And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. |
John 9:15 | So the Pharisees put more questions to him about how his eyes had been made open. And he said to them, He put earth on my eyes, and I had a wash and am able to see. | Again, therefore, the Pharisees also were asking him how he received sight, and he said to them, `Clay he did put upon my eyes, and I did wash and I see.` | Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said to them, He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and do see. |
John 9:16 | Then some of the Pharisees said, That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath. Others said, How is it possible for a sinner to do such signs? So there was a division among them. | Of the Pharisees, therefore, certain said, `This man is not from God, because the sabbath he doth not keep;` others said, `How is a man a sinful one able to do such signs?` and there was a division among them. | Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. |
John 9:17 | Again they said to the blind man, What have you to say about him for opening your eyes? And he said, He is a prophet. | They said to the blind man again, `Thou what dost thou say of him that he opened thine eyes?` | They say to the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thy eyes? He said, He is a prophet. |
John 9:18 | Now the Jews had no belief in the statement that he had been blind and was now able to see, till they sent for the father and mother of the man whose eyes had been made open, | and he said `He is a prophet.` The Jews, therefore, did not believe concerning him that he was blind and did receive sight, till that they called the parents of him who received sight, | But the Jews did not believe concerning him that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. |
John 9:19 | And put the question to them, saying, Is this your son, of whom you say that he was blind at birth? how is it then that he is now able to see? | and they asked them, saying, `Is your son, of whom ye say that he was born blind? how then now doth he see?` | And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see? |
John 9:20 | In answer his father and mother said, We are certain that this is our son and that he was blind at birth: | His parents answered them and said, `We have known that this is our son, and that he was born blind; | His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: |
John 9:21 | But how it is he is now able to see, or who made his eyes open, we are not able to say: put the question to him; he is old enough to give an answer for himself. | and how he now seeth, we have not known; or who opened his eyes, we have not known; himself is of age, ask him; he himself shall speak concerning himself.` | But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he will speak for himself. |
John 9:22 | They said this because of their fear of the Jews: for the Jews had come to an agreement that if any man said that Jesus was the Christ he would be put out of the Synagogue. | These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for already had the Jews agreed together, that if any one may confess him Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue; | These words his parents spoke, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man confessed that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. |
John 9:23 | That was the reason why they said, He is old enough; put the question to him. | because of this his parents said `He is of age, ask him.` | Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. |
John 9:24 | So they sent a second time for the man who had been blind and they said to him, Give glory to God: it is clear to us that this man is a sinner. | They called, therefore, a second time the man who was blind, and they said to him, `Give glory to God, we have known that this man is a sinner;` | Then again they called the man that was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. |
John 9:25 | He said in answer, I have no knowledge if he is a sinner or not, but one thing I am certain about; I was blind, and now I see. | he answered, therefore, and said, `If he be a sinner I have not known, one thing I have known, that, being blind, now I see.` | He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see. |
John 9:26 | Then they said to him, What did he do to you? how did he give you the use of your eyes? | And they said to him again, `What did he to thee? how did he open thine eyes?` | Then they said to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thy eyes? |
John 9:27 | His answer was: I have said it before, but your ears were shut: why would you have me say it again? is it your desire to become his disciples? | He answered them, `I told you already, and ye did not hear; why again do ye wish to hear? do ye also wish to become his disciples?` | He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: Why would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? |
John 9:28 | And they were angry with him and said, You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. | They reviled him, therefore, and said, `Thou art his disciple, and we are Moses` disciples; | Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. |
John 9:29 | We are certain that God gave his word to Moses: but as for this man, we have no knowledge where he comes from. | we have known that God hath spoken to Moses, but this one we have not known whence he is.` | We know that God spoke to Moses: as for this man, we know not whence he is. |
John 9:30 | The man said in answer, Why, here is a strange thing! You have no knowledge where he comes from though he gave me the use of my eyes. | The man answered and said to them, `Why, in this is a wonderful thing, that ye have not known whence he is, and he opened my eyes! | The man answered and said to them, Why, herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened my eyes. |
John 9:31 | We have knowledge that God does not give ear to sinners, but if any man is a worshipper of God and does his pleasure, to him God's ears are open. | and we have known that God doth not hear sinners, but, if any one may be a worshipper of God, and may do His will, him He doth hear; | Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man is a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. |
John 9:32 | In all the years nobody has ever before seen the eyes of a man blind from birth made open. | from the age it was not heard, that any one did open eyes of one who hath been born blind; | Since the world began hath it not been heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. |
John 9:33 | If this man did not come from God he would be unable to do anything. | if this one were not from God, he were not able to do anything.` | If this man were not from God, he could do nothing. |
John 9:34 | Their answer was: You came to birth through sin; do you make yourself our teacher? And they put him out of the Synagogue. | They answered and said to him, `In sins thou wast born altogether, and thou dost teach us!` and they cast him forth without. | They answered and said to him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? and they cast him out. |
John 9:35 | It came to the ears of Jesus that they had put him out, and meeting him he said, Have you faith in the Son of man? | Jesus heard that they cast him forth without, and having found him, he said to him, `Dost thou believe in the Son of God?` | Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said to him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? |
John 9:36 | He said in answer, And who is he, Lord? Say, so that I may have faith in him. | he answered and said, `Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?` | He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him? |
John 9:37 | Jesus said to him, You have seen him; it is he who is talking to you. | And Jesus said to him, `Thou hast both seen him, and he who is speaking with thee is he;` | And Jesus said to him, thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. |
John 9:38 | And he said, Lord, I have faith. And he gave him worship. | and he said, `I believe, sir,` and bowed before him. | And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him. |
John 9:39 | And Jesus said, I came into this world to be a judge, so that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind. | And Jesus said, `For judgment I to this world did come, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing may become blind.` | And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they who see not, may see; and that they who see, may be made blind. |
John 9:40 | These words came to the ears of the Pharisees who were with him and they said to him, Are we, then, blind? | And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, `Are we also blind?` | And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words, and said to him, Are we blind also? |
John 9:41 | Jesus said to them, If you were blind you would have no sin: but now that you say, We see; your sin is there still. | Jesus said to them, `If ye were blind, ye were not having had sin, but now ye say We see, therefore doth your sin remain. | Jesus said to them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth. |
