Ezekiel 27:1 | The word of the Lord came to me again, saying, | And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying: | |
Ezekiel 27:2 | And you, son of man, make a song of grief for Tyre; | `And thou, son of man, lift up concerning Tyre a lamentation, and thou hast said to Tyre: | |
Ezekiel 27:3 | And say to Tyre, O you who are seated at the doorway of the sea, trading for the peoples with the great sea-lands, these are the words of the Lord: You, O Tyre, have said, I am a ship completely beautiful. | O dweller on the entrances of the sea, Merchant of the peoples unto many isles, Thus said the Lord Jehovah: O Tyre, thou thou hast said: I [am] the perfection of beauty. | |
Ezekiel 27:4 | Your builders have made your outlines in the heart of the seas, they have made you completely beautiful. | In the heart of the seas [are] thy borders, Thy builders have perfected thy beauty. | |
Ezekiel 27:5 | They have made all your boards of fir-trees from Senir: they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make the supports for your sails. | Of firs of Senir they have built to thee all thy double-boarded ships, Of cedars of Lebanon they have taken to make a mast for thee, | |
Ezekiel 27:6 | Of oak-trees from Bashan they have made your driving blades; they have made your floors of ivory and boxwood from the sea-lands of Kittim. | Of oaks of Bashan they made thine oars, Thy bench they have made of ivory, A branch of Ashurim from isles of Chittim. | |
Ezekiel 27:7 | The best linen with needlework from Egypt was your sail, stretched out to be a flag for you; blue and purple from the sea-lands of Elishah gave you shade. | Of fine linen with embroidery from Egypt hath been thy sail, To be to thee for an ensign, Of blue and purple from isles of Elishah hath been thy covering. | |
Ezekiel 27:8 | The people of Zidon and Arvad were your boatmen; the wise men of Zemer were in you; they were guiding your ships; | Inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad have been rowers to thee, Thy wise men, O Tyre, have been in thee, They [are] thy pilots. | |
Ezekiel 27:9 | The responsible men of Gebal and its wise men were in you, making your boards watertight: all the ships of the sea with their seamen were in you trading in your goods. | Elders of Gebal and its wise men have been in thee, Strengthening thy breach; All ships of the sea and their mariners, Have been in thee, to trade [with] thy merchandise. | |
Ezekiel 27:10 | Cush and Lud and Put were in your army, your men of war, hanging up their body-covers and head-dresses of war in you: they gave you your glory. | Persian and Lud and Phut Have been in thy forces thy men of war. Shield and helmet they hung up in thee, They they have given out thine honour. | |
Ezekiel 27:11 | The men of Arvad in your army were on your walls, and were watchmen in your towers, hanging up their arms on your walls round about; they made you completely beautiful. | The sons of Arvad, and thy force, [Are] on thy walls round about, And short swordsmen in thy towers have been, Their shields they have hung up on thy walls round about, They they have perfected thy beauty. | |
Ezekiel 27:12 | Tarshish did business with you because of the great amount of your wealth; they gave silver, iron, tin, and lead for your goods. | Tarshish [is] thy merchant, Because of the abundance of all wealth, For silver, iron, tin, and lead, They have given out thy remnants. | |
Ezekiel 27:13 | Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your traders; they gave living men and brass vessels for your goods. | Javan, Tubal, and Meshech they [are] thy merchants, For persons of men, and vessels of brass, They have given out thy merchandise. | |
Ezekiel 27:14 | The people of Togarmah gave horses and war-horses and transport beasts for your goods. | They of the house of Togarmah, [For] horses, and riding steeds, and mules, They have given out thy remnants. | |
Ezekiel 27:15 | The men of Rodan were your traders: a great number of sea-lands did business with you: they gave you horns of ivory and ebony as an offering. | Sons of Dedan [are] thy merchants, Many isles [are] the mart of thy hand, Horns of ivory and ebony they sent back thy reward. | |
Ezekiel 27:16 | Edom did business with you because of the great number of things which you made; they gave emeralds, purple, and needlework, and the best linen and coral and rubies for your goods. | Aram [is] thy merchant, Because of the abundance of thy works, For emerald, purple, and embroidery, And fine linen, and coral, and agate, They have given out thy remnants. | |
Ezekiel 27:17 | Judah and the land of Israel were your traders; they gave grain of Minnith and sweet cakes and honey and oil and perfume for your goods. | Judah and the land of Israel they [are] thy merchants, For wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, And honey, and oil, and balm, They have given out thy merchandise. | |
Ezekiel 27:18 | Damascus did business with you because of the great amount of your wealth, with wine of Helbon and white wool. | Damascus [is] thy merchant, For the abundance of thy works, Because of the abundance of all wealth, For wine of Helbon, and white wool. | |
Ezekiel 27:19 | ... for your goods: they gave polished iron and spices for your goods. | Vedan and Javan go about with thy remnants, They have given shining iron, cassia, and cane, In thy merchandise it hath been. | |
Ezekiel 27:20 | Dedan did trade with you in cloths for the backs of horses. | Dedan [is] thy merchant, For clothes of freedom for riding. | |
Ezekiel 27:21 | Arabia and all the rulers of Kedar did business with you; in lambs and sheep and goats, in these they did business with you. | Arabia, and all princes of Kedar, They [are] the traders of thy hand, For lambs, and rams, and he-goats, In these thy merchants. | |
Ezekiel 27:22 | The traders of Sheba and Raamah did trade with you; they gave the best of all sorts of spices and all sorts of stones of great price and gold for your goods. | Merchants of Sheba and Raamah they [are] thy merchants, For the chief of all spices, And for every precious stone, and gold, They have given out thy remnants. | |
Ezekiel 27:23 | Haran and Canneh and Eden, the traders of Asshur and all the Medes: | Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, merchants of Sheba, Asshur Chilmad [are] thy merchants, | |
Ezekiel 27:24 | These were your traders in beautiful robes, in rolls of blue and needlework, and in chests of coloured cloth, corded with cords and made of cedar-wood, in them they did trade with you. | They [are] thy merchants for perfect things, For wrappings of blue, and embroidery, And for treasuries of rich apparel, With cords bound and girded, for thy merchandise, | |
Ezekiel 27:25 | Tarshish ships did business for you in your goods: and you were made full, and great was your glory in the heart of the seas. | Ships of Tarshish [are] thy double walls of thy merchandise, And thou art filled and honoured greatly, In the heart of the seas. | |
Ezekiel 27:26 | Your boatmen have taken you into great waters: you have been broken by the east wind in the heart of the seas. | Into great waters have they brought thee, Those rowing thee, The east wind hath broken thee in the heart of the seas. | |
Ezekiel 27:27 | Your wealth and your goods, the things in which you do trade, your seamen and those guiding your ships, those who make your boards watertight, and those who do business with your goods, and all your men of war who are in you, with all who have come together in you, will go down into the heart of the seas in the day of your downfall. | Thy wealth and thy remnants, Thy merchandise, thy mariners, And thy pilots, strengtheners of thy breach, And the traders of thy merchandise, And all thy men of war, who [are] in thee, And in all thine assembly that [is] in thy midst, Fall into the heart of the seas in the day of thy fall, | |
Ezekiel 27:28 | At the sound of the cry of your ships' guides, the boards of the ship will be shaking. | At the voice of the cry of thy pilots shake do the suburbs. | |
Ezekiel 27:29 | And all the boatmen, the seamen and those who are expert at guiding a ship through the sea, will come down from their ships and take their places on the land; | And come down from their ships have all handling an oar, Mariners, all the pilots of the sea, on the land they stand, | |
Ezekiel 27:30 | And their voices will be sounding over you, and crying bitterly they will put dust on their heads, rolling themselves in the dust: | And have sounded for thee with their voice, And cry bitterly, and cause dust to go up on their heads, In ashes they do roll themselves. | |
Ezekiel 27:31 | And they will have the hair of their heads cut off because of you, and will put haircloth on their bodies, weeping for you with bitter grief in their souls, even with bitter sorrow. | And they have made for thee baldness, And they have girded on sackcloth, And they have wept for thee, In bitterness of soul a bitter mourning. | |
Ezekiel 27:32 | And in their weeping they will make a song of grief for you, sorrowing over you and saying, Who is like Tyre, who has come to an end in the deep sea? | And lifted up for thee have their sons a lamentation, And they have lamented over thee, who [is] as Tyre? As the cut-off one in the midst of the sea? | |
Ezekiel 27:33 | When your goods went out over the seas, you made numbers of peoples full; the wealth of the kings of the earth was increased with your great wealth and all your goods. | With the outgoing of thy remnants from the seas, Thou hast filled many peoples, With the abundance of thy riches, and thy merchandise, Thou hast made rich things of earth. | |
Ezekiel 27:34 | Now that you are broken by the seas in the deep waters, your goods and all your people will go down with you. | The time of [thy] being broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, Thy merchandise and all thy assembly in thy midst have fallen. | |
Ezekiel 27:35 | All the people of the sea-lands are overcome with wonder at you, and their kings are full of fear, their faces are troubled. | All inhabitants of the isles have been astonished at thee, And their kings have been sore afraid, They have been troubled in countenance. | |
Ezekiel 27:36 | Those who do business among the peoples make sounds of surprise at you; you have become a thing of fear, you have come to an end for ever. | Merchants among the peoples have shrieked for thee, Wastes thou hast been, and thou art not to the age!` | |
