| Exodus 20:1 | And God said all these words: | `And God speaketh all these words, saying, | God spoke all these words, saying, |
| Exodus 20:2 | I am the Lord your God who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house. | I [am] Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants. | "I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. |
| Exodus 20:3 | You are to have no other gods but me. | `Thou hast no other Gods before Me. | You shall have no other gods before me. |
| Exodus 20:4 | You are not to make an image or picture of anything in heaven or on the earth or in the waters under the earth: | `Thou dost not make to thyself a graven image, or any likeness which [is] in the heavens above, or which [is] in the earth beneath, or which [is] in the waters under the earth. | "You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: |
| Exodus 20:5 | You may not go down on your faces before them or give them worship: for I, the Lord your God, am a God who will not give his honour to another; and I will send punishment on the children for the wrongdoing of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation of my haters; | Thou dost not bow thyself to them, nor serve them: for I, Jehovah thy God, [am] a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on sons, on the third [generation], and on the fourth, of those hating Me, | you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me, |
| Exodus 20:6 | And I will have mercy through a thousand generations on those who have love for me and keep my laws. | and doing kindness to thousands, of those loving Me and keeping My commands. | and showing lovingkindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. |
| Exodus 20:7 | You are not to make use of the name of the Lord your God for an evil purpose; whoever takes the Lord's name on his lips for an evil purpose will be judged a sinner by the Lord | `Thou dost not take up the name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah acquitteth not him who taketh up His name for a vain thing. | "You shall not take the name of Yahweh your God in vain, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. |

| Exodus 20:10 | But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that day you are to do no work, you or your son or your daughter, your man-servant or your woman-servant, your cattle or the man from a strange country who is living among you: | and the seventh day [is] a Sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thy cattle, and thy sojourner who is within thy gates, | but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahweh your God. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your man-servant, nor your maid-servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates; |
| Exodus 20:11 | For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this reason the Lord has given his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy. | for six days hath Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that [is] in them, and resteth in the seventh day; therefore hath Jehovah blessed the Sabbath-day, and doth sanctify it. | for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy. |

When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance. |
| Exodus 20:19 | And they said to Moses, To your words we will give ear, but let not the voice of God come to our ears, for fear death may come on us. | and say unto Moses, `Speak thou with us, and we hear, and let not God speak with us, lest we die.` | They said to Moses, "Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don't let God speak with us, lest we die." |

| Exodus 20:23 | Gods of silver and gods of gold you are not to make for yourselves. | ye do not make with Me gods of silver, even gods of gold ye do not make to yourselves. | You shall most certainly not make alongside of me gods of silver, or gods of gold for yourselves. |
| Exodus 20:24 | Make for me an altar of earth, offering on it your burned offerings and your peace-offerings, your sheep and your oxen: in every place where I have put the memory of my name, I will come to you and give you my blessing. | `An altar of earth thou dost make for Me, and thou hast sacrificed on it thy burnt-offerings and thy peace-offerings, thy flock and thy herd; in every place where I cause My name to be remembered I come in unto thee, and have blessed thee. | You shall make an altar of earth for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace-offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you. |
