Exodus 16:1And they journeyed from Elim, and the whole assembly of the children of Israel came into the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure out of the land of Egypt. And they went on their way from Elim, and all the children of Israel came into the waste land of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they went out of the land of Egypt. And they set forward from Elim, and all the multitude of the children of Israel came into the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai: the fifteenth day of the second month, after they came out of the land of Egypt.
Exodus 16:2And the whole assembly of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness. And all the children of Israel were crying out against Moses and Aaron in the waste land:And all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
Exodus 16:3And the children of Israel said to them, Would that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh-pots, when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole congregation with hunger! And the children of Israel said to them, It would have been better for the Lord to have put us to death in the land of Egypt, where we were seated by the flesh-pots and had bread enough for our needs; for you have taken us out to this waste of sand, to put all this people to death through need of food. And the children of Israel said to them: Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat over the flesh pots, and ate bread to the full. Why have you brought us into this desert, that you might destroy all the multitude with famine?
Exodus 16:4Then said Jehovah to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather the daily need on its day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not. Then the Lord said to Moses, See, I will send down bread from heaven for you; and the people will go out every day and get enough for the day's needs; so that I may put them to the test to see if they will keep my laws or not.And the Lord said to Moses: Behold I will rain bread from heaven for you: let the people go forth, and gather what is sufficient for every day: that I may prove them whether they will walk in my law, or not.
Exodus 16:5And it shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall prepare what they have brought in; and it shall be twice as much as they shall gather daily. And on the sixth day they are to make ready what they get in, and it will be twice as much as they get on the other days. But the sixth day let them provide for to bring in: and let it be double to that they were wont to gather every day.
Exodus 16:6And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, In the evening, then shall ye know that Jehovah has brought you out from the land of Egypt; And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, This evening it will be clear to you that it is the Lord who has taken you out of the land of Egypt:And Moses and Aaron said to the children of Israel: In the evening you shall know that the Lord hath brought you forth out of the land of Egypt:
Exodus 16:7and in the morning, then shall ye see the glory of Jehovah; for he has heard your murmurings against Jehovah; and what are we, that ye murmur against us?And in the morning you will see the glory of the Lord; for your angry words against the Lord have come to his ears: and what are we that you are crying out against us?And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord: for he hath heard your murmuring against the Lord: but as for us, what are we, that you mutter against us?
Exodus 16:8And Moses said, When Jehovah gives you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for Jehovah hears your murmurings which ye murmur against him ... and what [are] we? your murmurings are not against us, but against Jehovah. And Moses said, The Lord will give you meat for your food at evening, and in the morning bread in full measure; for your outcry against the Lord has come to his ears: for what are we? your outcry is not against us but against the Lord. And Moses said: In the evening the Lord will give you flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full: for he hath heard your murmurings, with which you have murmured against him, for what are we? your murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord.
Exodus 16:9And Moses spoke to Aaron, Say to all the assembly of the children of Israel, Come near into the presence of Jehovah; for he has heard your murmurings. And Moses said to Aaron, Say to all the people of Israel, Come near before the Lord for he has given ear to your outcry.Moses also said to Aaron: Say to the whole congregation of the children of Israel: Come before the Lord: for he hath heard your murmuring.
Exodus 16:10And it came to pass, when Aaron spoke to the whole assembly of the children of Israel, that they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Jehovah appeared in the cloud. And while Aaron was talking to the children of Israel, their eyes were turned in the direction of the waste land, and they saw the glory of the Lord shining in the cloud. And when Aaron spoke to all the assembly of the children of Israel, they looked towards the wilderness: and behold the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud.
Exodus 16:11And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,And the Lord said to Moses,And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
Exodus 16:12I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak to them, saying, Between the two evenings ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah your God.The outcry of the children of Israel has come to my ears: say to them now, At nightfall you will have meat for your food, and in the morning bread in full measure; and you will see that I am the Lord your God.I have heard the murmuring of the children of Israel: say to them: In the evening you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread: and you shall know that I am the Lord your God.
Exodus 16:13And it came to pass in the evening, that quails came up, and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay round the camp. And it came about that in the evening little birds came up and the place was covered with them: and in the morning there was dew all round about the tents. So it came to pass in the evening, that quails coming up, covered the camp: and in the morning, a dew lay round about the camp.
Exodus 16:14And when the dew that lay [round it] was gone up, behold, on the face of the wilderness there was [something] fine, granular, fine as hoar-frost, on the ground. And when the dew was gone, on the face of the earth was a small round thing, like small drops of ice on the earth. And when it had covered the face of the earth, it appeared in the wilderness small, and as it were beaten with a pestle, like unto the hoar frost on the ground.
Exodus 16:15And the children of Israel saw [it], and said one to another, What is it? for they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which Jehovah has given you to eat.And when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, What is it? for they had no idea what it was. And Moses said to them, It is the bread which the Lord has given you for your food. And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another: Manhu! which signifieth: What is this! for they knew not what it was. And Moses said to them: This is the bread, which the Lord hath given you to eat.
Exodus 16:16This is the thing which Jehovah has commanded: Gather of it every man according to what he can eat, an omer a poll, [according to] the number of your persons: ye shall take every man for those that are in his tent. This is what the Lord has said, Let every man take up as much as he has need of; at the rate of one omer for every person, let every man take as much as is needed for his family. This is the word, that the Lord hath commanded: Let every one gather of it as much as is enough to eat: a gomor for every man, according to the number of your souls that dwell in a tent, so shall you take of it.
Exodus 16:17And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some much, some little. And the children of Israel did so, and some took more and some less. And the children of Israel did so: and they gathered, one more, another less.
Exodus 16:18And they measured with the omer: then he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little wanted nothing: they had gathered every man according to the measure of his eating. And when it was measured, he who had taken up much had nothing over, and he who had little had enough; every man had taken what he was able to make use of.And they measured by the measure of a gomor: neither had he more that had gathered more: nor did he find less that had provided less: but every one had gathered, according to what they were able to eat.
Exodus 16:19And Moses said to them, Let no man leave [any] of it until the morning. And Moses said to them, Let nothing be kept till the morning. And Moses said to them: Let no man leave thereof till the morning.
Exodus 16:20But they did not hearken to Moses; and some men left of it until the morning; then worms bred in it and it stank. And Moses was wroth with them. But they gave no attention to Moses, and some of them kept it till the morning and there were worms in it and it had an evil smell: and Moses was angry with them. And they hearkened not to him, but some of them left until the morning, and it began to be full of worms, an it putrefied, and Moses was angry with them.
Exodus 16:21And they gathered it every morning, every man as much as he could eat; and when the sun became hot, it melted. And they took it up morning by morning, every man as he had need: and when the sun was high it was gone. Now every one of them gathered in the morning, as much as might suffice to eat: and after the sun grew hot, it melted.
Exodus 16:22And it came to pass on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one; and all the princes of the assembly came and told Moses. And on the sixth day they took up twice as much of the bread, two omers for every person: and all the rulers of the people gave Moses word of it.But on the sixth day they gathered twice as much, that is, two gomors every man: and all the rulers of the multitude came, and told Moses.
Exodus 16:23And he said to them, This is what Jehovah has said: To-morrow is the rest, the holy sabbath, of Jehovah: bake what ye will bake, and cook what ye will cook; and lay up for yourselves all that remains over, to be kept for the morning. And he said, This is what the Lord has said, Tomorrow is a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord: what has to be cooked may be cooked; and what is over, put on one side to be kept till the morning. And he said to them: This is what the Lord hath spoken: To morrow is the rest of the sabbath sanctified to the Lord. Whatsoever work is to be done, do it: and the meats that are to be dressed, dress them: and whatsoever shall remain, lay it up until the morning.
Exodus 16:24And they laid it up for the morning, as Moses had commanded; and it did not stink, neither was there any worm in it.And they kept it till the morning as Moses had said: and no smell came from it, and it had no worms. And they did so as Moses had commanded, and it did not putrefy, neither was there worm found in it.
Exodus 16:25And Moses said, Eat it to-day; for to-day is sabbath to Jehovah: to-day ye shall not find it in the field. And Moses said, Make your meal today of what you have, for this day is a Sabbath to the Lord: today you will not get any in the fields. And Moses said: Eat it to day, because it is the sabbath of the Lord: to day it shall not be found in the field.
Exodus 16:26Six days shall ye gather it; but on the seventh day is sabbath: on it there shall be none. For six days you will get it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any.Gather it six days: but on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord, therefore it shall not be found.
Exodus 16:27And it came to pass on the seventh day that there went out [some] from the people to gather [it], and they found none. But still on the seventh day some of the people went out to get it, and there was not any.And the seventh day came: and some of the people going forth to gather, found none.
Exodus 16:28And Jehovah said to Moses, How long do ye refuse to keep my commandments and my laws? And the Lord said to Moses, How long will you go against my orders and my laws? And the Lord said to Moses: How long will you refuse to keep my commandments, and my law?
Exodus 16:29See, for Jehovah hath given you the sabbath; therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread for two days. Abide every man in his place: let no man go from his place on the seventh day.See, because the Lord has given you the Sabbath, he gives you on the sixth day bread enough for two days; let every man keep where he is; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.See that the Lord hath given you the sabbath, and for this reason on the sixth day he giveth you a double provision: let each man stay at home, and let none go forth out of his place the seventh day.
Exodus 16:30And the people rested on the seventh day.So the people took their rest on the seventh day.And the people kept the sabbath on the seventh day.
Exodus 16:31And the house of Israel called its name Manna; and it was like coriander-seed, white; and the taste of it was like cake with honey. And this bread was named manna by Israel: it was white, like a grain seed, and its taste was like cakes made with honey. And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed white, and the taste thereof like to flour with honey.
Exodus 16:32And Moses said, This is the thing which Jehovah has commanded: Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread that I gave you to eat in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt. And Moses said, This is the order which the Lord has given: Let one omer of it be kept for future generations, so that they may see the bread which I gave you for your food in the waste land, when I took you out from the land of Egypt. And Moses said: This is the word, which the Lord hath commanded: Fill a gomor of it, and let it be kept unto generations to come hereafter, that they may know the bread, wherewith I fed you in the wilderness, when you were brought forth out of the land of Egypt.
Exodus 16:33And Moses said to Aaron, Take a pot, and put in it an omer full of manna, and deposit it before Jehovah, to be kept for your generations. And Moses said to Aaron, Take a pot and put one omer of manna in it, and put it away before the Lord, to be kept for future generations. And Moses said to Aaron: Take a vessel, and put manna into it, as much as a gomor can hold: and lay it up before the Lord to keep unto your generations,
Exodus 16:34As Jehovah had commanded Moses, so Aaron deposited it before the Testimony, to be kept.So Aaron put it away in front of the holy chest to be kept, as the Lord gave orders to Moses. As the Lord commanded Moses. And Aaron put it in the tabernacle to be kept.
Exodus 16:35And the children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came into an inhabited land: they ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan. And the children of Israel had manna for their food for forty years, till they came to a land with people in it, till they came to the edge of the land of Canaan. And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land: with this meat were they fed, until they reached the borders of the land of Chanaan.
Exodus 16:36Now an omer is the tenth [part] of an ephah. Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah. Now a gomor is the tenth part of an ephi.
