Genesis 21:1And Jehovah visited Sarah as he had said, and Jehovah did to Sarah as he had spoken. And the Lord came to Sarah as he had said and did to her as he had undertaken. And the Lord visited Sara, as he had promised: and fulfilled what he had spoken.
Genesis 21:2And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.And Sarah became with child, and gave Abraham a son when he was old, at the time named by God.And she conceived and bore a son in her old age, at the time that God had foretold her.
Genesis 21:3And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. And Abraham gave to his son, to whom Sarah had given birth, the name Isaac. And Abraham called the name of his son, whom Sara bore him, Isaac.
Genesis 21:4And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac, being eight days old, as God had commanded him.And when his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham made him undergo circumcision, as God had said to him.And he circumcised him the eighth day, as God had commanded him,
Genesis 21:5And Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.Now Abraham was a hundred years old when the birth of Isaac took place. When he was a hundred years old: for at this age of his father was Isaac born.
Genesis 21:6And Sarah said, God has made me laugh: all that hear will laugh with me.And Sarah said, God has given me cause for laughing, and everyone who has news of it will be laughing with me.And Sara said: God hath made a laughter for me: whosoever shall hear of it will laugh with me.
Genesis 21:7And she said, Who would have said to Abraham, Sarah will suckle children? For I have borne [him] a son in his old age.And she said, Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would have a child at her breast? for see, I have given him a son now when he is old.And again she said: Who would believe that Abraham should hear that Sara gave suck to a son, whom she bore to him in his old age.
Genesis 21:8And the child grew, and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. And when the child was old enough to be taken from the breast, Abraham made a great feast. And the child grew and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast on the day of his weaning.
Genesis 21:9And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking. And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian playing with Isaac. And when Sara had seen the son of Agar the Egyptian playing with Isaac her son, she said to Abraham:
Genesis 21:10And she said to Abraham, Cast out this handmaid and her son; for the son of this handmaid shall not inherit with my son with Isaac. So she said to Abraham, Send away that woman and her son: for the son of that woman is not to have a part in the heritage with my son Isaac.Cast out this bondwoman, and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with my son Isaac.
Genesis 21:11And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.And this was a great grief to Abraham because of his son.Abraham took this grievously for his son.
Genesis 21:12And God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad and because of thy handmaid: [in] all that Sarah hath said to thee hearken to her voice, for in Isaac shall a seed be called to thee. But God said, Let it not be a grief to you because of the boy and Hagar his mother; give ear to whatever Sarah says to you, because it is from Isaac that your seed will take its name. And God said to him: Let it not seem grievous to thee for the boy, and for thy bondwoman: in all that Sara hath said to thee, hearken to her voice: for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Genesis 21:13But also the son of the handmaid will I make a nation, because he is thy seed. And I will make a nation of the son of your servant-woman, because he is your seed. But I will make the son also of the bondwoman a great nation, because he is thy seed.
Genesis 21:14And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a flask of water, and gave [it] to Hagar, putting [it] on her shoulder and the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered about in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.And early in the morning Abraham got up, and gave Hagar some bread and a water-skin, and put the boy on her back, and sent her away: and she went, wandering in the waste land of Beer-sheba.So Abraham rose up in the morning, and taking bread and a bottle of water, put it upon her shoulder, and delivered the boy, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Bersabee.
Genesis 21:15And the water was exhausted from the flask; and she cast the child under one of the shrubs,And when all the water in the skin was used up, she put the child down under a tree. And when the water in the bottle was spent, she cast the boy under one of the trees that were there.
Genesis 21:16and she went and sat down over against [him], a bow-shot off; for she said, Let me not behold the death of the child. And she sat over against [him], and lifted up her voice and wept. And she went some distance away, about an arrow flight, and seating herself on the earth, she gave way to bitter weeping, saying, Let me not see the death of my child. And she went her way, and sat over against him a great way off as far as a bow can carry, for she said: I will not see the boy die: and sitting over against, she lifted up her voice and wept.
Genesis 21:17And God heard the voice of the lad. And the Angel of God called to Hagar from the heavens, and said to her, What [aileth] thee, Hagar? Fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad there, where he is.And the boy's cry came to the ears of God; and the angel of God said to Hagar from heaven, Hagar, why are you weeping? have no fear, for the child's cry has come to the ears of God.And God heard the voice of the boy: and an angel of God called to Agar from heaven, saying: What art thou doing, Agar? fear not: for God hath heard the voice of the boy, from the place wherein he is.
Genesis 21:18Arise, take the lad, and hold him in thy hand; for I will make of him a great nation.Come, take your child in your arms, for I will make of him a great nation.Arise, take up the boy, and hold him by the hand: for I will make him a great nation.
Genesis 21:19And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the flask with water, and gave the lad drink. Then God made her eyes open, and she saw a water-spring, and she got water in the skin and gave the boy a drink. And God opened her eyes: and she saw a well of water, and went and filled the bottle, and gave the boy to drink.
Genesis 21:20And God was with the lad, and he grew; and he dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. And God was with the boy, and he became tall and strong, and he became a bowman, living in the waste land. And God was with him: and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became a young man, an archer.
Genesis 21:21And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran. And his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt. And while he was in the waste land of Paran, his mother got him a wife from the land of Egypt. And he dwelt in the wilderness of Pharan, and his mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.
Genesis 21:22And it came to pass at that time that Abimelech, and Phichol the captain of his host, spoke to Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest. Now at that time, Abimelech and Phicol, the captain of his army, said to Abraham, I see that God is with you in all you do.At the same time Abimelech, and Phicol the general of his army said to Abraham: God is with thee in all that thou dost.
Genesis 21:23And now swear to me here by God that thou wilt not deal deceitfully with me, nor with my son, nor with my grandson. According to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land in which thou sojournest. Now, then, give me your oath, in the name of God, that you will not be false to me or to my sons after me, but that as I have been good to you, so you will be to me and to this land where you have been living.Swear therefore by God, that thou wilt not hurt me, nor my posterity, nor my stock: but according to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land wherein thou hast lived a stranger.
Genesis 21:24And Abraham said, I will swear. And Abraham said, I will give you my oath. And Abraham said: I will swear.
Genesis 21:25And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water that Abimelech's servants had violently taken away. But Abraham made a protest to Abimelech because of a water-hole which Abimelech's servants had taken by force. And he reproved Abimelech for a well of water, which his servants had taken away by force.
Genesis 21:26And Abimelech said, I do not know who has done this, neither hast thou told me [of it], neither have I heard [of it] but to-day.But Abimelech said, I have no idea who has done this thing; you never gave me word of it, and I had no knowledge of it till this day.And Abimelech answered: I knew not who did this thing: and thou didst not tell me, and I heard not of it till today.
Genesis 21:27And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant. And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made an agreement together. And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech: and both of them made a league.
Genesis 21:28And Abraham set seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves. And Abraham put seven young lambs of the flock on one side by themselves. And Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs of the flock.
Genesis 21:29And Abimelech said to Abraham, What [mean] these seven ewe-lambs, these which thou hast set by themselves? Then Abimelech said, What are these seven lambs which you have put on one side? And Abimelech said to him: What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set apart?
Genesis 21:30And he said, That thou take the seven ewe-lambs of my hand, that they may be a witness to me that I have dug this well. And he said, Take these seven lambs from me as a witness that I have made this water-hole.But he said: Thou shalt take seven ewe lambs at my hand: that they may be a testimony for me, that I dug this well.
Genesis 21:31Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because there they had sworn, both of them.So he gave that place the name Beer-sheba, because there the two of them had given their oaths. Therefore that place was called Bersabee: because both of them did swear.
Genesis 21:32And they made a covenant at Beer-sheba. And Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the captain of his host, and returned into the land of the Philistines. So they made an agreement at Beer-sheba, and Abimelech and Phicol, the captain of his army, went back to the land of the Philistines. And they made a league for the well of oath.
Genesis 21:33And [Abraham] planted a tamarisk in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of Jehovah, the Eternal ùGod.And Abraham, after planting a holy tree in Beer-sheba, gave worship to the name of the Lord, the Eternal God.And Abimelech, and Phicol the general of his army arose and returned to the land of the Palestines. But Abraham planted a grove in Bersabee, and there called upon the name of the Lord God eternal.
Genesis 21:34And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days. And Abraham went on living in the land of the Philistines as in a strange country. And he was a sojourner in the land of the Palestines many days.
