Hebrews 11:1Now faith is [the] substantiating of things hoped for, [the] conviction of things not seen.Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the sign that the things not seen are true.Now faith is the substance of things to be hoped for, the evidence of things that appear not.
Hebrews 11:2For in [the power of] this the elders have obtained testimony.For by it our fathers had God's approval.For by this the ancients obtained a testimony.
Hebrews 11:3By faith we apprehend that the worlds were framed by [the] word of God, so that that which is seen should not take its origin from things which appear.By faith it is clear to us that the order of events was fixed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made from things which only seem to be.By faith we understand that the world was framed by the word of God; that from invisible things visible things might be made.
Hebrews 11:4By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained testimony of being righteous, God bearing testimony to his gifts, and by it, having died, he yet speaks.By faith Abel made a better offering to God than Cain, and he had witness through it of his righteousness, God giving his approval of his offering: and his voice still comes to us through it though he is dead.By faith Abel offered to God a sacrifice exceeding that of Cain, by which he obtained a testimony that he was just, God giving testimony to his gifts; and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
Hebrews 11:5By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him; for before [his] translation he has the testimony that he had pleased God.By faith Enoch was taken up to heaven so that he did not see death; he was seen no longer, for God took him away: for before he was taken, witness had been given that he was well-pleasing to God:By faith Henoch was translated, that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had testimony that he pleased God.
Hebrews 11:6But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]. For he that draws near to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them who seek him out.And without faith it is not possible to be well-pleasing to him, for it is necessary for anyone who comes to God to have the belief that God is, and that he is a rewarder of all those who make a serious search for him.But without faith it is impossible to please God. For he that cometh to God, must believe that he is, and is a rewarder to them that seek him.
Hebrews 11:7By faith, Noah, oracularly warned concerning things not yet seen, moved with fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his house; by which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which [is] according to faith.By faith Noah, being moved by the fear of God, made ready an ark for the salvation of his family, because God had given him news of things which were not seen at the time; and through it the world was judged by him, and he got for his heritage the righteousness which is by faith.By faith Noe, having received an answer concerning those things which as yet were not seen, moved with fear, framed the ark for the saving of his house, by the which he condemned the world; and was instituted heir of the justice which is by faith.
Hebrews 11:8By faith Abraham, being called, obeyed to go out into the place which he was to receive for an inheritance, and went out, not knowing where he was going.By faith Abraham did as God said when he was ordered to go out into a place which was to be given to him as a heritage, and went out without knowledge of where he was going.By faith he that is called Abraham, obeyed to go out into a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Hebrews 11:9By faith he sojourned as a stranger in the land of promise as a foreign country, having dwelt in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with [him] of the same promise;By faith he was a wanderer in the land of the agreement, as in a strange land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who had a part with him in the same heritage:By faith he abode in the land, dwelling in cottages, with Isaac and Jacob, the co-heirs of the same promise.
Hebrews 11:10for he waited for the city which has foundations, of which God is [the] artificer and constructor.For he was looking for the strong town, whose builder and maker is God.For he looked for a city that hath foundations; whose builder and maker is God.
Hebrews 11:11By faith also Sarah herself received strength for [the] conception of seed, and [that] beyond a seasonable age; since she counted him faithful who promised.And by faith Sarah herself had power to give birth, when she was very old, because she had faith in him who gave his word;By faith also Sara herself, being barren, received strength to conceive seed, even past the time of age; because she believed that he was faithful who had promised,
Hebrews 11:12Wherefore also there have been born of one, and that of one become dead, even as the stars of heaven in multitude, and as the countless sand which [is] by the sea shore.So that from one man, who was near to death, came children in number as the stars in heaven, or as the sand by the seaside, which may not be numbered.For which cause there sprung even from one (and him as good as dead) as the stars of heaven in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
Hebrews 11:13All these died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them from afar off and embraced [them], and confessed that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth.All these came to their end in faith, not having had the heritage; but having seen it with delight far away, they gave witness that they were wanderers and not of the earth.All these died according to faith, not having received the promises, but beholding them afar off, and saluting them, and confessing that they are pilgrims and strangers on the earth.
Hebrews 11:14For they who say such things shew clearly that they seek [their] country.For those who say such things make it clear that they are searching for a country for themselves.For they that say these things, do signify that they seek a country. 15 And truly if they had been mindful of that from whence they came out, they had doubtless time to return.
Hebrews 11:15And if they had called to mind that from whence they went out, they had had opportunity to have returned;And truly if they had kept in mind the country from which they went out, they would have had chances of turning back.But now they desire a better, that is to say, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.
Hebrews 11:16but now they seek a better, that is, a heavenly; wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he has prepared for them a city.But now their desire is for a better country, that is to say, for one in heaven; and so it is no shame to God to be named their God; for he has made ready a town for them.By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered Isaac: and he that had received the promises, offered up his only begotten son;
Hebrews 11:17By faith Abraham, [when] tried, offered up Isaac, and he who had received to himself the promises offered up his only begotten [son],By faith Abraham made an offering of Isaac, when he was tested: and he with whom the agreement had been made gave up as an offering the only son of his body,(To whom it was said: In Isaac shall thy seed be called.)
Hebrews 11:18as to whom it had been said, In Isaac shall thy seed be called:Of whom it had been said, From Isaac will your seed take their name:Accounting that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Whereupon also he received him for a parable.
Hebrews 11:19counting that God [was] able to raise [him] even from among [the] dead, whence also he received him in a figure.Judging that God was able to give life even to the dead; and because of this he did get him back as if from death.By faith also of things to come, Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau.
Hebrews 11:20By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.By faith Isaac, blessing Jacob and Esau, gave news of things to come.By faith Jacob dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and adored the top of his rod.
Hebrews 11:21By faith Jacob [when] dying blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshipped on the top of his staff.By faith Jacob gave a blessing to the two sons of Joseph, when he was near to death; and gave God worship, supported by his stick.By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the going out of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.
Hebrews 11:22By faith Joseph [when] dying called to mind the going forth of the sons of Israel, and gave commandment concerning his bones.By faith Joseph, when his end was near, said that the children of Israel would go out of Egypt; and gave orders about his bones.By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months by his parents; because they saw he was a comely babe, and they feared not the king's edict.
Hebrews 11:23By faith Moses, being born, was hid three months by his parents, because they saw the child beautiful; and they did not fear the injunction of the king.By faith Moses was kept secretly by his father and mother for three months after his birth, because they saw that he was a fair child; and they had no fear of the king's orders.By faith Moses, when he was grown up, denied himself to be the son of Pharao's daughter;
Hebrews 11:24By faith Moses, when he had become great, refused to be called son of Pharaoh's daughter;By faith Moses, when he became a man, had no desire to be named the son of Pharaoh's daughter;Rather choosing to be afflicted with the people of God, than to have the pleasure of sin for a time,
Hebrews 11:25choosing rather to suffer affliction along with the people of God than to have [the] temporary pleasure of sin;Feeling that it was better to undergo pain with the people of God, than for a short time to have a taste of the pleasures of sin;Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasure of the Egyptians. For he looked unto the reward.
Hebrews 11:26esteeming the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt, for he had respect to the recompense.Judging a part in the shame of Christ to be better than all the wealth of Egypt; for he was looking forward to his reward.By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the fierceness of the king: for he endured as seeing him that is invisible.
Hebrews 11:27By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he persevered, as seeing him who is invisible.By faith he went out of Egypt, not being turned from his purpose by fear of the wrath of the king; for he kept on his way, as seeing him who is unseen.By faith he celebrated the pasch, and the shedding of the blood; that he, who destroyed the firstborn, might not touch them.
Hebrews 11:28By faith he celebrated the passover and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.By faith he kept the Passover, and put the sign of the blood on the houses, so that the angel of destruction might not put their oldest sons to death.By faith they passed through the Red Sea, as by dry land: which the Egyptians attempting, were swallowed up.
Hebrews 11:29By faith they passed through the Red sea as through dry land; of which the Egyptians having made trial were swallowed up.By faith they went through the Red Sea as if it had been dry land, though the Egyptians were overcome by the water when they made an attempt to do the same.By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, by the going round them seven days.
Hebrews 11:30By faith the walls of Jericho fell, having been encircled for seven days.By faith the walls of Jericho came down, after they had been circled for seven days.By faith Rahab the harlot perished not with the unbelievers, receiving the spies with peace.
Hebrews 11:31By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish along with the unbelieving, having received the spies in peace.By faith Rahab, the loose woman, was not put to death with those who had gone against God's orders, because she had taken into her house in peace those sent to see the land.And what shall I yet say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, Barac, Samson, Jephthe, David, Samuel, and the prophets:
Hebrews 11:32And what more do I say? For the time would fail me telling of Gideon, and Barak, and Samson, and Jephthah, and David and Samuel, and of the prophets:What more am I to say? For there would not be time to give the stories of Gideon, Barak, Samson, and Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets:Who by faith conquered kingdoms, wrought justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
Hebrews 11:33who by faith overcame kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped lions' mouths,Who through faith overcame kingdoms, did righteousness, got their reward, kept the mouths of lions shut,Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, recovered strength from weakness, became valiant in battle, put to flight the armies of foreigners:
Hebrews 11:34quenched [the] power of fire, escaped [the] edge of the sword, became strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, made [the] armies of strangers give way.Put out the power of fire, got safely away from the edge of the sword, were made strong when they had been feeble, became full of power in war, and put to flight the armies of the nations.Women received their dead raised to life again. But others were racked, not accepting deliverance, that they might find a better resurrection.
Hebrews 11:35Women received their dead again by resurrection; and others were tortured, not having accepted deliverance, that they might get a better resurrection;Women had their dead given back to them living; others let themselves be cruelly attacked, having no desire to go free, so that they might have a better life to come;And others had trial of mockeries and stripes, moreover also of bands and prisons.
Hebrews 11:36and others underwent trial of mockings and scourgings, yea, and of bonds and imprisonment.And others were tested by being laughed at or by blows, and even with chains and prisons:They were stoned, they were cut asunder, they were tempted, they were put to death by the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being in want, distressed, afflicted:
Hebrews 11:37They were stoned, were sawn asunder, were tempted, died by the death of the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, destitute, afflicted, evil treated,They were stoned, they were cut up with knives, they were tested, they were put to death with the sword, they went about in sheepskins and in goatskins; being poor and in pain and cruelly attacked,Of whom the world was not worthy; wandering in deserts, in mountains, and in dens, and in caved of the earth.
Hebrews 11:38(of whom the world was not worthy,) wandering in deserts and mountains, and [in] dens and caverns of the earth.Wandering in waste places and in mountains and in holes in the rocks; for whom the world was not good enough.And all these being approved by the testimony of faith, received not the promise;
Hebrews 11:39And these all, having obtained witness through faith, did not receive the promise,And not one of these got the good things of the agreement, though they all had a good record through faith,God providing some better thing for us, that they should not be perfected without us.
Hebrews 11:40God having foreseen some better thing for us, that they should not be made perfect without us.Because God had kept some better thing for us, so that it was not possible for them to become complete without us.
