Philemon 1:1Paul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon the beloved and our fellow-workman,Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith,Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy, a brother: to Philemon, our beloved and fellow labourer;
Philemon 1:2and to the sister Apphia and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the assembly which [is] in thine house.And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house:And to Appia, our dearest sister, and to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the church which is in thy house:
Philemon 1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I thank my God, always making mention of thee at my prayers,I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you,I give thanks to my God, always making a remembrance of thee in my prayers.
Philemon 1:5hearing of thy love and the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints,Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints;Hearing of thy charity and faith, which thou hast in the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints:
Philemon 1:6in such sort that thy participation in the faith should become operative in the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in us towards Christ [Jesus].That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ.That the communication of thy faith may be made evident in the acknowledgment of every good work, that is in you in Christ Jesus.
Philemon 1:7For we have great thankfulness and encouragement through thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.For I have had great joy and consolation in thy charity, because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed by thee, brother.
Philemon 1:8Wherefore having much boldness in Christ to enjoin thee what is fitting,And so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right,Wherefore though I have much confidence in Christ Jesus, to command thee that which is to the purpose:
Philemon 1:9for love's sake I rather exhort, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also prisoner of Jesus Christ.Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus:For charity sake I rather beseech, whereas thou art such a one, as Paul an old man, and now a prisoner also of Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:10I exhort thee for *my* child, whom I have begotten in [my] bonds, Onesimus,My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains,I beseech thee for my son, whom I have begotten in my bands, Onesimus,
Philemon 1:11once unserviceable to thee, but now serviceable to thee and to me:Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me:Who hath been heretofore unprofitable to thee, but now is profitable both to me and thee,
Philemon 1:12whom I have sent back to thee: [but do *thou* receive] him, that is, *my* bowels:Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart:Whom I have sent back to thee. And do thou receive him as my own bowels.
Philemon 1:13whom *I* was desirous of keeping with myself, that for thee he might minister to me in the bonds of the glad tidings;Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place:Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered to me in the bands of the gospel:
Philemon 1:14but I have wished to do nothing without thy mind, that thy good might not be as of necessity but of willingness:But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart.But without thy counsel I would do nothing: that thy good deed might not be as it were of necessity, but voluntary.
Philemon 1:15for perhaps for this reason he has been separated [from thee] for a time, that thou mightest possess him fully for ever;For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever;For perhaps he therefore departed for a season from thee, that thou mightest receive him again for ever:
Philemon 1:16not any longer as a bondman, but above a bondman, a beloved brother, specially to me, and how much rather to thee, both in [the] flesh and in [the] Lord?No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord.Not now as a servant, but instead of a servant, a most dear brother, especially to me: but how much more to thee both in the flesh and in the Lord?
Philemon 1:17If therefore thou holdest me to be a partner [with thee], receive him as me;If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself.If therefore thou count me a partner, receive him as myself.
Philemon 1:18but if he have wronged thee anything or owe anything [to thee], put this to my account.If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account.And if he hath wronged thee in any thing, or is in thy debt, put that to my account.
Philemon 1:19*I* Paul have written [it] with mine own hand; *I* will repay [it]: that I say not to thee that thou owest even thine own self also to me.I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life.I Paul have written it with my own hand: I will repay it: not to say to thee, that thou owest me thy own self also.
Philemon 1:20Yea, brother, *I* would have profit of *thee* in [the] Lord: refresh my bowels in Christ.So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ.Yea, brother. May I enjoy thee in the Lord. Refresh my bowels in the Lord.
Philemon 1:21Being confident of thine obedience, I have written to thee, knowing that thou wilt do even more than I say.Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say.Trusting in thy obedience, I have written to thee: knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
Philemon 1:22But withal prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that I shall be granted to you through your prayers.And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you.But withal prepare me also a lodging. For I hope that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
Philemon 1:23Epaphras salutes thee, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love;There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus;
Philemon 1:24Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workmen.And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my brother-workers.Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke my fellow labourers.
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with your spirit.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So be it.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
