Luke 15:1And all the tax-gatherers and the sinners were coming near to him to hear him;Now all the tax-farmers and sinners came near to give ear to him. Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
Luke 15:2and the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This [man] receives sinners and eats with them. And the Pharisees and scribes were angry, saying, This man gives approval to sinners, and takes food with them. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
Luke 15:3And he spoke to them this parable, saying,And he made a story for them, saying,And he spake this parable unto them, saying,
Luke 15:4What man of you having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness and go after that which is lost, until he find it?What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if one of them gets loose and goes away, will not let the ninety-nine be in the waste land by themselves, and go after the wandering one, till he sees where it is?What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
Luke 15:5and having found it, he lays it upon his own shoulders, rejoicing; And when he has got it again, he takes it in his arms with joy.And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
Luke 15:6and being come to the house, calls together the friends and the neighbours, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep. And when he gets back to his house, he sends for his neighbours and friends, saying to them, Be glad with me, for I have got back my sheep which had gone away. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
Luke 15:7I say unto you, that thus there shall be joy in heaven for one repenting sinner, [more] than for ninety and nine righteous who have no need of repentance.I say to you that even so there will be more joy in heaven when one sinner is turned away from his wrongdoing, than for ninety-nine good men, who have no need of a change of heart.I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Luke 15:8Or, what woman having ten drachmas, if she lose one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek carefully till she find it?Or what woman, having ten bits of silver, if one bit has gone from her hands, will not get a light, and go through her house, searching with care till she sees it?Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?
Luke 15:9and having found it she calls together the friends and neighbours, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost. And when she has it again, she gets her friends and neighbours together, saying, Be glad with me, for I have got back the bit of silver which had gone from me.And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.
Luke 15:10Thus, I say unto you, there is joy before the angels of God for one repenting sinner.Even so, I say to you, There is joy among the angels of God, when one sinner is turned away from his wrongdoing.Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
Luke 15:11And he said, A certain man had two sons; And he said, A certain man had two sons:And he said, A certain man had two sons:
Luke 15:12and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give to me the share of the property that falls [to me]. And he divided to them what he was possessed of.And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me that part of your property which will be mine. And he made division of his goods between them. And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
Luke 15:13And after not many days the younger son gathering all together went away into a country a long way off, and there dissipated his property, living in debauchery. And not long after, the younger son got together everything which was his and took a journey into a far-away country, and there all his money went in foolish living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
Luke 15:14But when he had spent all there arose a violent famine throughout that country, and he began to be in want. And when everything was gone, there was no food to be had in that country, and he was in need. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
Luke 15:15And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he went and put himself into the hands of one of the people of that country, and he sent him into his fields to give the pigs their food. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
Luke 15:16And he longed to fill his belly with the husks which the swine were eating; and no one gave to him.And so great was his need that he would have been glad to take the pigs' food, and no one gave him anything. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
Luke 15:17And coming to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have abundance of bread, and *I* perish here by famine. But when he came to his senses, he said, What numbers of my father's servants have bread enough, and more, while I am near to death here through need of food! And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
Luke 15:18I will rise up and go to my father, and I will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee;I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have done wrong, against heaven and in your eyes:I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
Luke 15:19I am no longer worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.I am no longer good enough to be named your son: make me like one of your servants. And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
Luke 15:20And he rose up and went to his own father. But while he was yet a long way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell upon his neck, and covered him with kisses. And he got up and went to his father. But while he was still far away, his father saw him and was moved with pity for him and went quickly and took him in his arms and gave him a kiss. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
Luke 15:21And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee; I am no longer worthy to be called thy son.And his son said to him, Father, I have done wrong, against heaven and in your eyes: I am no longer good enough to be named your son.And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
Luke 15:22But the father said to his bondmen, Bring out the best robe and clothe him in [it], and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet; But the father said to his servants, Get out the first robe quickly, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet:But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
Luke 15:23and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry:And get the fat young ox and put it to death, and let us have a feast, and be glad. And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
Luke 15:24for this my son was dead and has come to life, was lost and has been found. And they began to make merry. For this, my son, who was dead, is living again; he had gone away from me, and has come back. And they were full of joy.For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
Luke 15:25And his elder son was in the field; and as, coming [up], he drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. Now the older son was in the field: and when he came near the house, the sounds of music and dancing came to his ears. Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
Luke 15:26And having called one of the servants, he inquired what these things might be.And he sent for one of the servants, questioning him about what it might be.And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
Luke 15:27And he said to him, Thy brother is come, and thy father has killed the fatted calf because he has received him safe and well. And he said to him, Your brother has come; and your father has had the young ox put to death because he has come back safely. And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
Luke 15:28But he became angry and would not go in. And his father went out and besought him.But he was angry and would not go in; and his father came out and made a request to him to come in.And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
Luke 15:29But he answering said to his father, Behold, so many years I serve thee, and never have I transgressed a commandment of thine; and to me hast thou never given a kid that I might make merry with my friends:But he made answer and said to his father, See, all these years I have been your servant, doing your orders in everything: and you never gave me even a young goat so that I might have a feast with my friends:And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
Luke 15:30but when this thy son, who has devoured thy substance with harlots, is come, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. But when this your son came, who has been wasting your property with bad women, you put to death the fat young ox for him.But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
Luke 15:31But he said to him, Child, *thou* art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine. And he said to him, Son, you are with me at all times, and all I have is yours. And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
Luke 15:32But it was right to make merry and rejoice, because this thy brother was dead and has come to life again, and was lost and has been found. But it was right to be glad and to have a feast; for this your brother, who was dead, is living again; he had gone away and has come back.It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
