Matthew 15:1 | Then the scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem come up to Jesus, saying, | Then there came to Jesus from Jerusalem Pharisees and scribes, saying, | Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, who were of Jerusalem, saying, |
Matthew 15:2 | Why do thy disciples transgress what has been delivered by the ancients? for they do not wash their hands when they eat bread. | Why do your disciples go against the teaching of the fathers? for they take food with unwashed hands. | Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. |
Matthew 15:3 | But he answering said to them, Why do *ye* also transgress the commandment of God on account of your traditional teaching? | And in answer he said to them, Why do you, yourselves, go against the word of God on account of the teaching which has been handed down to you? | But he answered and said to them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? |
Matthew 15:4 | For God commanded saying, Honour father and mother; and, He that speaks ill of father or mother, let him die the death. | For God said, Give honour to your father and mother: and, He who says evil of father or mother will be put to death. | For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. |
Matthew 15:5 | But *ye* say, Whosoever shall say to his father or mother, It is a gift, whatsoever [it be] by which [received] from me thou wouldest be profited: | But you say, If a man says to his father or his mother, That by which you might have had profit from me is given to God; | But ye say, Whoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatever thou mightest be profited by me; |
Matthew 15:6 | and he shall in no wise honour his father or his mother; and ye have made void the commandment of God on account of your traditional teaching. | There is no need for him to give honour to his father. And you have made the word of God without effect because of your teaching. | And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. |
Matthew 15:7 | Hypocrites! well has Esaias prophesied about you, saying, | You false ones, well did Isaiah say of you, | Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, |
Matthew 15:8 | This people honour me with the lips, but their heart is far away from me; | These people give me honour with their lips, but their heart is far from me. | This people draw nigh to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. |
Matthew 15:9 | but in vain do they worship me, teaching [as] teachings commandments of men. | But their worship is to no purpose, while they give as their teaching the rules of men. | But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. |
Matthew 15:10 | And having called to [him] the crowd, he said to them, Hear and understand: | And he got the people together and said to them, Give ear, and let my words be clear to you: | And he called the multitude, and said to them, Hear, and understand: |
Matthew 15:11 | Not what enters into the mouth defiles the man; but what goes forth out of the mouth, this defiles the man. | Not that which goes into the mouth makes a man unclean, but that which comes out of the mouth. | Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. |
Matthew 15:12 | Then his disciples, coming up, said to him, Dost thou know that the Pharisees, having heard this word, have been offended? | Then the disciples came and said to him, Did you see that the Pharisees were troubled when these words came to their ears? | Then came his disciples, and said to him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended after they heard this saying? |
Matthew 15:13 | But he answering said, Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up. | But he said in answer, Every plant which my Father in heaven has not put in the earth, will be taken up by the roots. | But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be extirpated. |
Matthew 15:14 | Leave them alone; they are blind leaders of blind: but if blind lead blind, both will fall into a ditch. | Let them be: they are blind guides. And if a blind man is guiding a blind man, the two will go falling into a hole together. | Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leadeth the blind, both will fall into the ditch. |
Matthew 15:15 | And Peter answering said to him, Expound to us this parable. | Then Peter said to him, Make the story clear to us. | Then answered Peter and said to him, Declare to us this parable. |
Matthew 15:16 | But he said, Are *ye* also still without intelligence? | And he said, Are you, like them, still without wisdom? | And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? |
Matthew 15:17 | Do ye not yet apprehend, that everything that enters into the mouth finds its way into the belly, and is cast forth into the draught? | Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth goes on into the stomach, and is sent out as waste? | Do ye not yet understand, that whatever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? |
Matthew 15:18 | but the things which go forth out of the mouth come out of the heart, and those defile man. | But the things which come out of the mouth come from the heart; and they make a man unclean. | But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. |
Matthew 15:19 | For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnessings, blasphemies; | For out of the heart come evil thoughts, the taking of life, broken faith between the married, unclean desires of the flesh, taking of property, false witness, bitter words: | For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: |
Matthew 15:20 | these are the things which defile man; but the eating with unwashen hands does not defile man. | These are the things which make a man unclean; but to take food with unwashed hands does not make a man unclean. | These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. |
Matthew 15:21 | And Jesus, going forth from thence, went away into the parts of Tyre and Sidon; | And Jesus went away from there into the country of Tyre and Sidon. | Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the territories of Tyre and Sidon. |
Matthew 15:22 | and lo, a Canaanitish woman, coming out from those borders, cried [to him] saying, Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is miserably possessed by a demon. | And a woman of Canaan came out from those parts, crying and saying, Have pity on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is greatly troubled with an unclean spirit. | And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same territories, and cried to him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously afflicted with a demon. |
Matthew 15:23 | But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came to [him] and asked him, saying, Dismiss her, for she cries after us. | But he gave her no answer. And his disciples came and said to him, Send her away, for she is crying after us. | But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. |
Matthew 15:24 | But he answering said, I have not been sent save to the lost sheep of Israel's house. | But he made answer and said, I was sent only to the wandering sheep of the house of Israel. | But he answered and said, I am not sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. |
Matthew 15:25 | But she came and did him homage, saying, Lord, help me. | But she came and gave him worship, saying, Help, Lord. | Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me. |
Matthew 15:26 | But he answering said, It is not well to take the bread of the children and cast it to the dogs. | And he made answer and said, It is not right to take the children's bread and give it to the dogs. | But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. |
Matthew 15:27 | But she said, Yea, Lord; for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from the table of their masters. | But she said, Yes, Lord: but even the dogs take the bits from under their masters' table. | And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crums which fall from their master's table. |
Matthew 15:28 | Then Jesus answering said to her, O woman, thy faith [is] great. Be it to thee as thou desirest. And her daughter was healed from *that* hour. | Then Jesus, answering, said to her, O woman, great is your faith: let your desire be done. And her daughter was made well from that hour. | Then Jesus answered and said to her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it to thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that very hour. |
Matthew 15:29 | And Jesus, going away from thence, came towards the sea of Galilee, and he went up into the mountain and sat down there; | And Jesus went from there and came to the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and took his seat there. | And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh to the sea of Galilee; and ascended a mountain, and sat down there. |
Matthew 15:30 | and great crowds came to him, having with them lame, blind, dumb, crippled, and many others, and they cast them at his feet, and he healed them: | And there came to him great numbers of people having with them those who were broken in body, or blind, or without voice, or wounded, or ill in any way, and a number of others; they put them down at his feet and he made them well: | And great multitudes came to him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them: |
Matthew 15:31 | so that the crowds wondered, seeing dumb speaking, crippled sound, lame walking, and blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. | So that the people were full of wonder when they saw that those who had no voice were talking, the feeble were made strong, those whose bodies were broken had the power of walking, and the blind were able to see: and they gave glory to the God of Israel. | So that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel. |
Matthew 15:32 | But Jesus, having called his disciples to [him], said, I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat, and I would not send them away fasting lest they should faint on the way. | And Jesus got his disciples together and said, I have pity for the people, because they have now been with me three days and have no food: and I will not send them away without food, or they will have no strength for the journey. | Then Jesus called his disciples to him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way. |
Matthew 15:33 | And his disciples say to him, Whence should we have so many loaves in [the] wilderness as to satisfy so great a crowd? | And the disciples say to him, How may we get enough bread in a waste place, to give food to such a number of people? | And his disciples say to him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to satisfy so great a multitude? |
Matthew 15:34 | And Jesus says to them, How many loaves have ye? But they said, Seven, and a few small fishes. | And Jesus says to them, How much bread have you? And they said, Seven cakes, and some small fishes. | And Jesus saith to them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. |
Matthew 15:35 | And he commanded the crowds to lie down on the ground; | Then he gave an order to the people to be seated on the earth, | And he commanded the multitude to sit on the ground. |
Matthew 15:36 | and having taken the seven loaves and the fishes, having given thanks, he broke [them] and gave [them] to his disciples, and the disciples to the crowd. | And he took the seven cakes of bread and the fishes; and having given praise, he gave the broken bread to the disciples, and the disciples gave it to the people. | And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and broke them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. |
Matthew 15:37 | And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was over and above of the fragments seven baskets full; | And they all took food, and had enough; and they took up of the broken bits, seven baskets full. | And they all ate and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that were left seven baskets full. |
Matthew 15:38 | but they that ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. | And there were four thousand men who took food, together with women and children. | And they that had eaten were four thousand men, besides women and children. |
Matthew 15:39 | And, having dismissed the crowds, he went on board ship and came to the borders of Magadan. | And when he had sent the people away, he got into the boat, and came into the country of Magadan. | And he sent away the multitude, and took a boat, and came into the borders of Magdala. |
