1st-John 3:1See what love the Father has given to us, that we should be called [the] children of God. For this reason the world knows us not, because it knew him not.See what great love the Father has given us in naming us the children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not see who we are, because it did not see who he was.See what marvellous love the Father has bestowed upon us that we should be called God's children: and that is what we are. For this reason the world does not recognize us because it has not known Him.
1st-John 3:2Beloved, now are we children of God, and what we shall be has not yet been manifested; we know that if it is manifested we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.My loved ones, now we are children of God, and at present it is not clear what we are to be. We are certain that at his revelation we will be like him; for we will see him as he is.Dear friends, we are now God's children, but what we are to be in the future has not yet been fully revealed. We know that if Christ reappears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.
1st-John 3:3And every one that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as *he* is pure. And everyone who has this hope in him makes himself holy, even as he is holy. And every man who has this hope fixed on Him, purifies himself so as to be as pure as He is.
1st-John 3:4Every one that practises sin practises also lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.Everyone who is a sinner goes against the law, for sin is going against the law.Every one who is guilty of sin is also guilty of violating Law; for sin is the violation of Law.
1st-John 3:5And ye know that *he* has been manifested that he might take away our sins; and in him sin is not.And you have knowledge that he came to take away sin: and in him there is no sin.And you know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin.
1st-John 3:6Whoever abides in him, does not sin: whoever sins, has not seen him or known him.Anyone who is in him does no sin; anyone who is a sinner has not seen him and has no knowledge of him.No one who continues in union with Him lives in sin: no one who lives in sin has seen Him or knows Him.
1st-John 3:7Children, let no man lead you astray; he that practises righteousness is righteous, even as *he* is righteous. My little children, let no man take you out of the true way: he who does righteousness is upright, even as he is upright;Dear children, let no one lead you astray. The man who acts righteously is righteous, just as He is righteous.
1st-John 3:8He that practises sin is of the devil; for from [the] beginning the devil sins. To this end the Son of God has been manifested, that he might undo the works of the devil. The sinner is a child of the Evil One; for the Evil One has been a sinner from the first. And the Son of God was seen on earth so that he might put an end to the works of the Evil One.He who is habitually guilty of sin is a child of the Devil, because the Devil has been a sinner from the very beginning. The Son of God appeared for the purpose of undoing the work of the Devil.
1st-John 3:9Whoever has been begotten of God does not practise sin, because his seed abides in him, and he cannot sin, because he has been begotten of God.Anyone who is a child of God does no sin, because he still has God's seed in him; he is not able to be a sinner, because God is his Father. No one who is a child of God is habitually guilty of sin. A God-given germ of life remains in him, and he cannot habitually sin because he is a child of God.
1st-John 3:10In this are manifest the children of God and the children of the devil. Whoever does not practise righteousness is not of God, and he who does not love his brother. In this way it is clear who are the children of God and who are the children of the Evil One; anyone who does not do righteousness or who has no love for his brother, is not a child of God.By this we can distinguish God's children and the Devil's children: no one who fails to act righteously is a child of God, nor he who does not love his brother man.
1st-John 3:11For this is the message which ye have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another:Because this is the word which was given to you from the first, that we are to have love for one another; For this is the Message you have heard from the beginning that we are to love one another.
1st-John 3:12not as Cain was of the wicked one, and slew his brother; and on account of what slew he him? because his works were wicked, and those of his brother righteous. Not being of the Evil One like Cain, who put his brother to death. And why did he put him to death? Because his works were evil and his brother's works were good.We are not to resemble Cain, who was a child of the Evil one and killed his own brother. And why did he kill him? Because his own actions were wicked and his brother's actions righteous.
1st-John 3:13Do not wonder, brethren, if the world hate you.Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world has no love for you.Do not be surprised, brethren, if the world hates you.
1st-John 3:14*We* know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love [his] brother abides in death. We are conscious that we have come out of death into life because of our love for the brothers. He who has no love is still in death. As for us, we know that we have already passed out of death into Life because we love our brother men. He who is destitute of love continues dead.
1st-John 3:15Every one that hates his brother is a murderer, and ye know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.Anyone who has hate for his brother is a taker of life, and you may be certain that no taker of life has eternal life in him.Every one who hates his brother man is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has the Life of the Ages continuing in him.
1st-John 3:16Hereby we have known love, because *he* has laid down his life for us; and *we* ought for the brethren to lay down [our] lives. In this we see what love is, because he gave his life for us; and it is right for us to give our lives for the brothers. We know what love is through Christ's having laid down His life on our behalf; and in the same way we ought to lay down our lives for our brother men.
1st-John 3:17But whoso may have the world's substance, and see his brother having need, and shut up his bowels from him, how abides the love of God in him?But if a man has this world's goods, and sees that his brother is in need, and keeps his heart shut against his brother, how is it possible for the love of God to be in him?But if any one has this world's wealth and sees that his brother man is in need, and yet hardens his heart against him how can such a one continue to love God?
1st-John 3:18Children, let us not love with word, nor with tongue, but in deed and in truth. My little children, do not let our love be in word and in tongue, but let it be in act and in good faith.Dear children, let us not love in words only nor with the lips, but in deed and in truth.
1st-John 3:19And hereby we shall know that we are of the truth, and shall persuade our hearts before himIn this way we may be certain that we are true, and may give our heart comfort before him,And in this way we shall come to know that we are loyal to the truth, and shall satisfy our consciences in His presence
1st-John 3:20that if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. When our heart says that we have done wrong; because God is greater than our heart, and has knowledge of all things.in whatever matters our hearts condemn us because God is greater than our hearts and knows everything.
1st-John 3:21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness towards God,My loved ones, if our heart does not say that we have done wrong, we have no fear before him;Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have perfect confidence towards God;
1st-John 3:22and whatsoever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and practise the things which are pleasing in his sight. And he gives us all our requests, because we keep his laws and do the things which are pleasing in his eyes.and whatever we ask for we obtain from Him, because we obey His commands and do the things which are pleasing in His sight.
1st-John 3:23And this is his commandment, that we believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love one another, even as he has given us commandment. And this is his law, that we have faith in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love for one another, even as he said to us.And this is His command that we are to believe in His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as He has commanded us to do.
1st-John 3:24And he that keeps his commandments abides in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given to us.He who keeps his laws is in God and God is in him. And the Spirit which he gave us is our witness that he is in us.The man who obeys His commands continues in union with God, and God continues in union with him; and through His Spirit whom He has given us we can know that He continues in union with us.
