Acts 14:1And it came to pass in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake that a great multitude of both Jews and Greeks believed.Now in Iconium they went together to the Synagogue of the Jews and gave such teaching that a great number of Jews and Greeks had faith.At Iconium the Apostles went together to the Jewish synagogue and preached, with the result that a great number both of Jews and Greeks believed.
Acts 14:2But the Jews who did not believe stirred up the minds of [those of] the nations and made [them] evil-affected against the brethren.But those Jews who had not the faith, made the minds of the Gentiles bitter against the brothers.But the Jews who had refused obedience stirred up the Gentiles and embittered their minds against the brethren.
Acts 14:3They stayed therefore a good while, speaking boldly, [confiding] in the Lord, who gave witness to the word of his grace, giving signs and wonders to be done by their hands.So they kept there for a long time, taking heart in the Lord, who gave witness to the word of his grace by causing signs and wonders to be done by their hands.Yet Paul and Barnabas remained there for a considerable time, speaking freely and relying on the Lord, while He bore witness to the Message of His grace by permitting signs and marvels to be done by them.
Acts 14:4And the multitude of the city was divided, and some were with the Jews and some with the apostles.But there was a division among the people of the town; some were on the side of the Jews and some on the side of the Apostles.At length the people of the city split into parties, some siding with the Jews and some with the Apostles.
Acts 14:5And when an assault was making, both of [those of] the nations and [the] Jews with their rulers, to use [them] ill and stone them,And when a violent attempt was made by the Gentiles and the Jews, with their rulers, to make an attack on them and have them stoned,And when a hostile movement was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with the sanction of their magistrates, to maltreat and stone them,
Acts 14:6they, being aware of it, fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding country,Having got news of it, they went in flight to the towns of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and the country round about:the Apostles, having become aware of it, made their escape into the Lycaonian towns of Lystra and Derbe, and the neighbouring country.
Acts 14:7and there they were announcing the glad tidings.And went on preaching the good news there.And there they continued to tell the Good News.
Acts 14:8And a certain man in Lystra, impotent in his feet, sat, [being] lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked.And at Lystra there was a certain man, who from birth had been without the use of his feet, never having had the power of walking.Now a man who had no power in his feet used to sit in the streets of Lystra. He had been lame from his birth and had never walked.
Acts 14:9This [man] heard Paul speaking, who, fixing his eyes on him, and seeing that he had faith to be healed,This man was giving ear to the preaching of Paul, who, looking at him, and seeing that he had faith to be made well,After this man had listened to one of Paul's sermons, the Apostle, looking steadily at him and perceiving that he had faith to be cured,
Acts 14:10said with a loud voice, Rise up straight upon thy feet: and he sprang up and walked.Said in a loud voice, Get up on your feet. And, jumping up, he went walking about.said in a loud voice, "Stand upright upon your feet!"
Acts 14:11But the crowds, who saw what Paul had done, lifted up their voices in Lycaonian, saying, The gods, having made themselves like men, are come down to us.And when the people saw what Paul had done, they said in a loud voice, in the language of Lycaonia, The gods have come down to us in the form of men.So he sprang up and began to walk about. Then the crowds, seeing what Paul had done, rent the air with their shouts in the Lycaonian language, saying, "The gods have assumed human form and have come down to us."
Acts 14:12And they called Barnabas Jupiter, and Paul Mercury, because he took the lead in speaking.And they gave the name of Jupiter to Barnabas, and to Paul that of Mercury, because he was the chief talker.They called Barnabas `Zeus,' and Paul, as being the principal speaker, `Hermes.'
Acts 14:13And the priest of Jupiter who was before the city, having brought bulls and garlands to the gates, would have done sacrifice along with the crowds.And the priest of the image of Jupiter, which was before the town, took oxen and flowers to the doors of the town, and was about to make an offering with the people.And the priest of Zeus the temple of Zeus being at the entrance to the city brought bullocks and garlands to the gates, and in company with the crowd was intending to offer sacrifices to them.
Acts 14:14But the apostles Barnabas and Paul, having heard [it], rent their garments, and rushed out to the crowd, cryingBut when this came to the ears of the Apostles, Paul and Barnabas, they went running out among the people, parting their clothing, and crying out,But the Apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it; and tearing their clothes they rushed out into the middle of the crowd, exclaiming, "Sirs, why are you doing all this?
Acts 14:15and saying, Men, why do ye these things? *We* also are men of like passions with you, preaching to you to turn from these vanities to the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all things in them;Good people, why are you doing these things? We are men with the same feelings as you, and we give you the good news so that you may be turned away from these foolish things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all things in them:We also are but men, with natures kindred to your own; and we bring you the Good News that you are to turn from these unreal things, to worship the ever-living God, the Creator of earth and sky and sea and of everything that is in them.
Acts 14:16who in the past generations suffered all the nations to go in their own ways,Who in the past let all nations go in the ways which seemed good to them.In times gone by He allowed all the nations to go their own ways;
Acts 14:17though indeed he did not leave himself without witness, doing good, and giving to you from heaven rain and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.But he was not without witness, because he did good, and gave you rain from heaven and times of fruit, making your hearts full of food and joy.and yet by His beneficence He has not left His existence unattested His beneficence, I mean, in sending you rain from Heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and joyfulness."
Acts 14:18And saying these things, they with difficulty kept the crowds from sacrificing to them.And even with these words, it was hard for them to keep the people from making an offering to them.Even with words like these they had difficulty in preventing the thronging crowd from offering sacrifices to them.
Acts 14:19But there came Jews from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds and stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing him to have died.But some Jews came to that place from Antioch and Iconium, and got control over the people; and after stoning Paul, they had him pulled out of the town, taking him for dead.But now a party of Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and, having won over the crowd, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the town, believing him to be dead.
Acts 14:20But while the disciples encircled him, he rose up and entered into the city. And on the morrow he went away with Barnabas to Derbe.But when the disciples came round him, he got up and went into the town: and the day after he went away with Barnabas to Derbe.When, however, the disciples had collected round him, he rose and went back into the town. The next day he went with Barnabas to Derbe;
Acts 14:21And having announced the glad tidings to that city, and having made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch,And having made a number of disciples through the preaching of the good news in that town, they went back to Lystra and Iconium and Antioch,and, after proclaiming the Good News to the people there and gaining a large number of converts, they retraced their steps to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch.
Acts 14:22establishing the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to abide in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.Making strong the souls of the disciples, saying to them that they were to keep the faith, and that we have to go through troubles of all sorts to come into the kingdom of God.Everywhere they strengthened the disciples by encouraging them to hold fast to the faith, and warned them saying, "It is through many afflictions that we must make our way into the Kingdom of God."
Acts 14:23And having chosen them elders in each assembly, having prayed with fastings, they committed them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.And when they had made selection of some to be rulers in every church, and had given themselves to prayer and kept themselves from food, they put them into the care of the Lord in whom they had faith.And in every Church, after prayer and fasting, they selected Elders by show of hands, and commended them to the Lord on whom their faith rested.
Acts 14:24And having passed through Pisidia they came to Pamphylia,And they went through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia.Then passing through Pisidia they came into Pamphylia;
Acts 14:25and having spoken the word in Perga, they came down to Attalia;And, after preaching the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia;and after telling the Message at Perga they came down to Attaleia.
Acts 14:26and thence they sailed away to Antioch, whence they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.And from there they went by ship to Antioch, where they had been handed over to the grace of God for the work which they had not done.Thence they sailed to Antioch, where they had previously been commended to the grace of God in connexion with the work which they had now completed.
Acts 14:27And having arrived, and having brought together the assembly, they related to them all that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the nations.And when they came there, and had got the church together, they gave them an account of all the things which God had done through them, and how he had made open a door of faith to the Gentiles.Upon their arrival they called the Church together and proceeded to report in detail all that God, working with them, had done, and how He had opened for the Gentiles the door of faith.
Acts 14:28And they stayed no little time with the disciples.And they were with the disciples there for a long time.And they remained a considerable time in Antioch with the disciples.
