Acts 15:1 | And certain persons, having come down from Judaea, taught the brethren, If ye shall not have been circumcised according to the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved. | Now certain men came down from Judaea, teaching the brothers and saying that without circumcision, after the rule of Moses, there is no salvation. | But certain persons who had come down from Judaea tried to convince the brethren, saying, "Unless you are circumcised in accordance with the Mosaic custom, you cannot be saved." |
Acts 15:2 | A commotion therefore having taken place, and no small discussion on the part of Paul and Barnabas against them, they arranged that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others from amongst them, should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question. | And after Paul and Barnabas had had no little argument and discussion with them, the brothers made a decision to send Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them to the Apostles and the rulers of the church at Jerusalem about this question. | Between these new comers and Paul and Barnabas there was no little disagreement and controversy, until at last it was decided that Paul and Barnabas and some other brethren should go up to consult the Apostles and Elders in Jerusalem on this matter. |
Acts 15:3 | They therefore, having been set on their way by the assembly, passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, relating the conversion of [those of] the nations. And they caused great joy to all the brethren. | So they, being sent on their way by the church, went through Phoenicia and Samaria, giving news of the salvation of the Gentiles, to the great joy of all the brothers. | So they set out, being accompanied for a short distance by some other members of the Church; and as they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told the whole story of the conversion of the Gentiles and inspired all the brethren with great joy. |
Acts 15:4 | And being arrived at Jerusalem, they were received by the assembly, and the apostles, and the elders, and related all that God had wrought with them. | And when they came to Jerusalem, they had a meeting with the church and the Apostles and the rulers, and they gave an account of all the things which God had done through them. | Upon their arrival in Jerusalem they were cordially received by the Church, the Apostles, and the Elders; and they reported in detail all that God, working with them, had done. |
Acts 15:5 | And some of those who were of the sect of the Pharisees, who believed, rose up from among [them], saying that they ought to circumcise them and enjoin them to keep the law of Moses. | But some of the Pharisees, who were of the faith, got up and said, It is necessary for these to have circumcision and to keep the law of Moses. | But certain men who had belonged to the sect of the Pharisees but were now believers, stood up in the assembly, and said, "Yes, Gentile believers ought to be circumcised and be ordered to keep the Law of Moses." |
Acts 15:6 | And the apostles and the elders were gathered together to see about this matter. | And the Apostles and the rulers of the church came together and gave thought to the question. | Then the Apostles and Elders met to consider the matter; |
Acts 15:7 | And much discussion having taken place, Peter, standing up, said to them, Brethren, *ye* know that from the earliest days God amongst you chose that the nations by my mouth should hear the word of the glad tidings and believe. | And when there had been much discussion, Peter got up and said to them, My brothers, you have knowledge that some time back it was God's pleasure that by my mouth the good news might be given to the Gentiles so that they might have faith. | and after there had been a long discussion Peter rose to his feet. "It is within your own knowledge," he said, "that God originally made choice among you that from my lips the Gentiles were to hear the Message of the Good News, and believe. |
Acts 15:8 | And the heart-knowing God bore them witness, giving [them] the Holy Spirit as to us also, | And God, the searcher of hearts, was a witness to them, giving them the Holy Spirit even as he did to us; | And God, who knows all hearts, gave His testimony in their favour by bestowing the Holy Spirit on them just as He did on us; |
Acts 15:9 | and put no difference between us and them, having purified their hearts by faith. | Making no division between them and us, but making clean their hearts by faith. | and He made no difference between us and them, in that He cleansed their hearts by their faith. |
Acts 15:10 | Now therefore why tempt ye God, by putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? | Why then are you testing God, by putting on the neck of the disciples a yoke so hard that not even our fathers or we were strong enough for it? | Now, therefore, why try an experiment upon God, by laying on the necks of these disciples a yoke which neither our forefathers nor we have been able to bear? |
Acts 15:11 | But we believe that we shall be saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same manner as they also. | But we have faith that we will get salvation through the grace of the Lord Jesus in the same way as they. | On the contrary, we believe that it is by the grace of the Lord Jesus that we, as well as they, shall be saved." |
Acts 15:12 | And all the multitude kept silence and listened to Barnabas and Paul relating all the signs and wonders which God had wrought among the nations by them. | And all the people were quiet while Barnabas and Paul gave an account of the signs and wonders which God had done among the Gentiles by them. | Then the whole assembly remained silent while they listened to the statement made by Paul and Barnabas as to all the signs and marvels that God had done among the Gentiles through their instrumentality. |
Acts 15:13 | And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Brethren, listen to me: | And when they had come to an end, James, answering, said, My brothers, give ear to me: | When they had finished speaking, James said, "Brethren, listen to me. |
Acts 15:14 | Simon has related how God first visited to take out of [the] nations a people for his name. | Symeon has given an account of how God was first pleased to take from among the Gentiles a people for himself. | Symeon has related how God first looked graciously on the Gentiles to take from among them a People to be called by His name. |
Acts 15:15 | And with this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written: | And this is in agreement with the words of the prophets, as it is said, | And this is in harmony with the language of the Prophets, which says: |
Acts 15:16 | After these things I will return, and will rebuild the tabernacle of David which is fallen, and will rebuild its ruins, and will set it up, | After these things I will come back, and will put up the tent of David which has been broken down, building up again its broken parts and making it complete: | "`"Afterwards I will return, and will rebuild David's fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will set it up again; |
Acts 15:17 | so that the residue of men may seek out the Lord, and all the nations on whom my name is invoked, saith [the] Lord, who does these things | So that the rest of men may make search for the Lord, and all the Gentiles on whom my name is named, | In order that the rest of mankind may earnestly seek the Lord even all the nations which are called by My name," |

Acts 15:19 | Wherefore *I* judge, not to trouble those who from the nations turn to God; | For this reason my decision is, that we do not put trouble in the way of those who from among the Gentiles are turned to God; | "My judgement, therefore, is against inflicting unexpected annoyance on those of the Gentiles who are turning to God. |
Acts 15:20 | but to write to them to abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood. | But that we give them orders to keep themselves from things offered to false gods, and from the evil desires of the body, and from the flesh of animals put to death in ways against the law, and from blood. | Yet let us send them written instructions to abstain from things polluted by connexion with idolatry, from fornication, from meat killed by strangling, and from blood. |
Acts 15:21 | For Moses, from generations of old, has in every city those who preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath. | For Moses, from times long past, has his preachers in every town, reading his law in the Synagogues every Sabbath. | For Moses from the earliest times has had his preachers in every town, being read, as he is, Sabbath after Sabbath, in the various synagogues." |
Acts 15:22 | Then it seemed good to the apostles and to the elders, with the whole assembly, to send chosen men from among them with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch, Judas called Barsabas and Silas, leading men among the brethren, | Then it seemed good to the Apostles and the rulers and all the church, to send men from among them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; Judas, named Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brothers: | Thereupon it was decided by the Apostles and Elders, with the approval of the whole Church, to choose suitable persons from among themselves and send them to Antioch, with Paul and Barnabas. Judas, called Bar-sabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren, were selected, |

Acts 15:24 | Inasmuch as we have heard that some who went out from amongst us have troubled you by words, upsetting your souls, [saying that ye must be circumcised and keep the law]; to whom we gave no commandment; | Because we have knowledge that some who went from us have been troubling you with their words, putting your souls in doubt; to whom we gave no such order; | As we have been informed that certain persons who have gone out from among us have disturbed you by their teaching and have unsettled your minds, without having received any such instructions from us; |
Acts 15:25 | it seemed good to us, having arrived at a common judgment, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, | It seemed good to us, having come to an agreement together, to send these men to you, with our well loved Barnabas and Paul, | we have unanimously decided to select certain men and send them to you in company with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul, |

Acts 15:27 | We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves also will tell you by word [of mouth] the same things. | And so we have sent Judas and Silas, who will say the same things to you themselves, by word of mouth. | We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who are themselves bringing you the same message by word of mouth. |
Acts 15:28 | For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: | For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us, to put on you nothing more than these necessary things; | For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no burden heavier than these necessary requirements |
Acts 15:29 | to abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication; keeping yourselves from which ye will do well. Farewell. | To keep from things offered to false gods, and from blood, and from things put to death in ways which are against the law, and from the evil desires of the body; if you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. May you be happy. | You must abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from fornication. Keep yourselves clear of these things, and it will be well with you. Farewell." |
Acts 15:30 | They therefore, being let go, came to Antioch, and having gathered the multitude delivered to [them] the epistle. | So they, being sent away, came down to Antioch, and having got the people together, they gave them the letter. | They, therefore, having been solemnly sent, came down to Antioch, where they called together the whole assembly and delivered the letter. |
